Great foods near U 3/22/2004

Vietnamese Spring Roll is the best in twin cities, thinly-wrapped eggrolls are crispier and tastier than those offered in Chinese American restaurant. Wonton soup, shrimp tofu soup are better choice among small soup. For entree, Vietnamese Curry dishes (coconut flavored), Imperial Dishes (lemongrass involved) are the most lasting favorites. Stir-fried dishes are all sauteed with favorite sauces such as black bean, oyster sauce, mustard, or steamed wholely with sauce on side. Vietnamese Beef, Chicken, or seafood Noodle Soup are good choices who want some traditional causual food. Vegetarian entrees include health-enhancing black mushroom, tofu, and mock duck. as well as other fresh veggies . In all, LOTUS U of M is a great and safe choice around U of M campus and downtown area. Pros: Food quality, service, value for the buck more

Great vegan and veggie 1/24/2003

Lotus has lots in the way of vegetarian dishes, so check it out if you're of the meatless variety. If you aren't, check out the shrimp-pork balls which are way delicious (one of the last meals I've had with meat in it, but this had nothing to do with it... i swear). Never had a bad meal here. Service not exactly top notch, but I can live with it. more

  • In Short
The decor in this small, one-room restaurant is pretty bare bones--plain white walls with a few large, gold fans depicting tigers and peacocks. Diners are strictly local: young students and professors from the U, and employees from the nearby hospital. The Vietnamese and Chinese dishes include curried cream cheese wontons, plump shrimp and meaty crab claws. A flaky piece of walleye arrives in a savory black bean sauce.
