our best night out in NY!!! 11/23/2009

I'm from NY... was hosting a group of my friends from LA for the weekend and we decided to stop by Los Dados for some mexican food and flavor. After reading some bad reviews online, I was a little nervous, but it turned out to be the best night! our waiter was really funny and courteous, made useful suggestions and the drinks were deliiiiicious. we order the cucumber spicy margaritas, mahi tacos & steak quesadilla. my friends had a FANTASTiC time.. the dj played awesome mix of salsa and hip-hop. will definitely be going back soon. dont let the bad reviews scare you off from this place. other than the slightly slow service, its a very fun night out!!! Pros: drinks!!! Cons: slow service more

Really Los Dados 10/26/2009

The bartender was rude, offered everyone at the bar chips n salsa but passed us over on 3 separate occasions. When we requested chips and salsa she still did not bring it. We had to ask her again and guess what…. received only chips. We had to ask her again for the salsa, then wait 10 minutes for it. It would be amusing if it wasn’t so sad.\r \r When seated for dinner I ordered the Pablano Shrimp Risotto, which was served undercooked (undercooked as in it was CRUNCHY). When I asked for it to be cooked a little longer, (zap it in the microwave if that's what it will take) I was told, ""This is how we cook it"". \r \r I have never heard of a restaurant telling patron who feels their meal is undercooked, “Too bad, this is how we make it,” definitely a first for me. \r \r Overall it was a waste of time, money and chewing. I would have been better off stopping at a hot dog vendor. At least that would have been cooked food.\r \r This place is one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in New York and I was born and raised here.\r Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything but leaving. more

Overpriced and Overtrendy 8/12/2009

This place has everything going for it except the $20 mediocre entrees, and $14 6 ounce margaritas. The lighting is also so dark one can not read the menu. There are many better picks in this neighborhood, so dont get taken!!!! Pros: Good Drinks, Great Vibe Cons: Overpriced, Poor Service, Bad Food more

I DON'T THINK SO! 7/23/2009

All - This place clearly lives off location. There are 1,000,000 better restaurants to try in this great city then LOS DADOS. 1 I made a birthday reservation weeks in advance, my table preference was not honored. They know their 20% is coming for parties of 6 and higher and don't feel the need to live up to that. Food was awful not worth the price. The ambiance isn't all bad - but really do your self a favor and avoid. Pros: Decent Space / Ambiance. My company.... Cons: How much time do you have? more

Terrible - food was dry, service was worse. 7/5/2009

After nearly being stung by bees outside, we headed inside where a bus boy spilled a glass of water on our table and then walked away before cleaning most of it up and leaving the wet used napkin on the table. It took us 20 minutes to flag down our ""server"" to get another glass. By this point we were truly hoping the food would redeem our experience at Los Dados, but we werent so lucky. The salad lettuce had not been washed and parasites were everywhere on the leaves, the chicken was incredibly dry. Overall the restaurant was a complete disappointment and I'm not sure how it's managed to snag decent reviews so far. Pros: Hard to find any. Cons: Service, food, overall experience. more

Just OK 6/26/2009

Came here on a weekday. The drinks were terrific! We sat outside, nice night, the food took well over an hour. When the food came out, I couldn't even eat it! The tacos were not good at all! The only good side was the manager who was very apologetic and took care of the check! Would I go back? Perhaps simply because the drinks were so good and because the staff was nice. Pros: Drinks Cons: The food more

Just plain bad 5/25/2009

The weekend brunch was disappointing from start to finish. Terrible service (we waited a solid 30 minutes for tacos and a quesadilla), uninspiring menu, mediocre food--and all of it wildly overpriced. I don't remember the last time I felt so thoroughly ripped off at a restaurant in New York. more

Extremley Disappointed 10/10/2008

I have lived in NY for over eleven years and have been to just about every restaurant. I love Mexican and Suenos has been a great experience several times. Los Dabos on the other hand was beyond disappointing. Starting from the time of actually making the reservation and the attitude over the phone. Upon arriving, the ""hostess"" decided that the restaurants actual time was 15 minutes ahead of what every cell phone read. We had 8:30 reservations and she said that becasue we showed up 20 minutes late (actual time 8:40) that they do not hold the reservations past 15 minutes. Once that was cleared (20 minutes later), they decided to seat us in the middle of the resturant where I couldn't see the menu and hear the person next to me. The food was marginal, the steak was cold, the service was slow, and the overall price was NOT WORTH IT! They really need to get their act together if they want to survive. My advice - stay away...you would think you were in South Jersey with average at best food. more

Ok, you must try the Orange Blossom. My girlfriends, and surprisingly the 2 guys i was with, drank them the entire night! more

Friday night at Los Dados 8/8/2008

I'm new at this, so please excuse me. Tonight, while wandering around in the meatpacking district, my friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant and we decided to give it a try. We had a great time!! The place was dimly lit, but the atmosphere was good. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. He suggested two entrees, so we ordered them. We were pleased. We had the shrimp enchiladas and the chicken quesadilla. They both had a bit of spice and so much flavor! We both had margaritas, but as we were finishing up our meal our waiter suggested that we try these chili palmer (?) shots. We did. We were blown away!!! It was a mix of sweet and spicy!! They were amazing!! You have to try them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say we order another round of those babies! It was a good experience, it was unexpected and that is why I felt the need to write about it!! I went there expecting neither good or bad, but I had a good time!!! Pros: DRINKS!!!!! Cons: A little dark more

GREAT MEXICAN FOOD 7/17/2008

I heard very bad reviews, but was pleasantly surprised by Los Dados. The white sangria was great, as well as the food! We will definitely be going back! Pros: Delightful service, great food/sangria Cons: a few oily chips more

very disappointed 7/1/2008

I was excited to try this restaurant. I love mexican food and was excited by the promise of ""homemade"". I was immediately concerned when the chips and salsa arrived. The salsa was very bland and some of the chips were still dripping with oil. I ordered the chicken tacos, and the meal did not live up to the description of the waiter. The presentation was more fitting of a fast food joint. 3 soft tacos with strips of chicken on top, and thats it! I looked at the plate in disbelief. There were absolutely no toppings at all!! It looked horribly bland and basically tasted that way. The dish came with several sauces on the side so you are left to add what you like. I have had better fast food mexican tacos! None of the sauces were memorable. I did ask for tomatoe and onion toppings to dress it up. Then I asked for salt and pepper for some flavor, THEN i asked for hot sauce to make it spicy...basically I was trying to create a meal worth eating. The waiter stayed away from the table until the end, never inquiring once if everything was ok. I did take the 2 tacos home figuring i could dress it up and make it a good dish. I wonder if that is what they mean by ""homemade""! more

Lucky roll of the dice. 6/26/2008

We stumbled on this restaurant by accident and went in just because the crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves. The bar was packed on a monday night which surprised me. So my friend and I sat down at a table outside and was greeted by a waiter who suggested what I should try as a first timer and my decision was easy, I had the tuna tostados and the mahi mahi tacos because I love anything out the ocean. My companion had the tamarind steak we both thought it was amazing. We left feeling pleased that I accidentally discovered this diamond in the meat packing district. By the way who thought cucumber would make a great margarita, surprise it does I had 4. more

not worth it 6/25/2008

i live a half a block from here and absolutely love mexican food, especially the food here. you think i would be a regular at this place but not so much. the waiter was so rude, it was insulting. he basically rushed us through our meal, checking back every few minutes to hurry us along...all at 10 pm on a friday. he was acting like it was 10 pm at the olive garden in a suburban mall and he had to get picked up by his mom in the parking lot. but this is the meatpacking district on a friday night. i left remembering only the terrible service, which is unfortunate because the food is good, even if it is overpriced. this restaurant should stay open later. every night i walk through my neighborhood after 11 pm and all the restaurants are packed, making lots of money. but los dados is closed. and that rushed waiter is at home, not making any more tips. i won't go back. Pros: good food, strong drinks Cons: terrible service, terrible service, terrible service more

It turned out all good........... 6/14/2008

A co-worker brought me to Los Dados on Thursday night - I had actually never heard of it before but he promised me a good time. When we arrived I was definitely very hesitant........Meat Packing is not really my scene and the bar area was mobbed. I was about one minute away from turning and running, but my buddy insisted we stay. Our reservation wasn't for another 20 minutes so we decided to try and belly up to the bar............and he decided and I was forced to go along with it. We were about 3 deep (i think there was a party of 20 or so people in their outside lounge) and I figured we'd be waiting years for a bartenders attention. Luckily, the other hostess spotted us and asked if we'd like to see a drink menu. About 45 seconds later a cute bartender made eye contact and before I knew it, our margaritas were on there way. Wow - maybe this night wasn't going to turn out all that bad. I had a cucumber margarita (the first of 5 that night!) and my friend had some sort of vanilla cocktail.\r \r About 3/4 of the way through our drinks we were found by the hostess and brought to a table on the patio - the restaurant was still jamming and it was already 9:30. We had guacamole, some tiny beef tacos, and a special scallop ceviche to start - all 3 were off the chain. Unfortunately, this is where my review ends\r \r Halfway through my 3rd drink everything becomes fuzzy. I'm pretty sure I had a chicken quesadilla - no clue what my buddy ate. He was sampling everything off of the cocktail list and kept raving - the only one that sticks out in my mind was a berry margarita that had a frozen lime filled with mezcal. The reason that I remember that one is because I laughed at him for about 5 minutes for ordering a girly drink, but quickly shut up after taking a sip - that's what put me over the edge.\r \r So everything turned out great in the end - even though I ended up on my bathroom floor and not at the apt of one of the smoking girls that was at the table next to us! Pros: awesome margaritas, very good service, great appetizers, hot women Cons: Its in the meatpacking district, no trains close by more

Best food and customer service in Meatpacking 6/9/2008

Strolled in unreserved last friday night and was delighted by not only the friendly service but also the great atmosphere. After a quick drink at the bar (wow those cucumber Margaritas are awesome!), we sat down inside the restaurant. Our server was attentive, friendly, informative and above all, there when we wanted him. The food was delicious - the Mahi tacos were exceptional and the tuna tostadas to die for. I'm telling everyone I know and intend to return.\r \r Dos Caminos and Rosa, start worrying, this is real competition. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: It's only available in the Meatpacking district more

the worst 6/8/2008

Rarely have a I seen such a gross lack of professionalism in service, quality and presentation. I'll be amazed if this place is in business next year. My friend and I went to the bar to try the margaritas and quacamole. The bartender acted like she couldn't be bothered. Instead of mixing one of the ""special"" margaritas as an allegedly upscale Mexican restaurant would, she poured it from a big plastic jug and it slopped over the side of the glass. The divided container that holds all the bar fruits was in front of us. It's plastic hinged lid was broken and completely filthy. It was disgusting. The two dishes holding the margarita salt looked like they'd been there all night and the salt was all over the bar. While we were having our drinks the bartender was making up another batch of the ""specials,"" and her job was made all the easier by the masking tape stuck to the outside of the jug that told her how much tequila to pour, how much grand marnier, etc. And right next to that jug was the plastic jug that held the salsa that went with our chips. And right next to that was the bartender's leopard print cosmetic bag, and next to that was a plastic bag filled with stuff that looked like it came from the corner deli. Very classy. The guacamole was passable, although it's better at Dos Caminos and Rosa Mexicana. Somebody needs to get in there and whip this place into shape. Seriously. Pros: OK guacamole Cons: Sloppy, dirty, unprofessional more

Disappointing 5/6/2008

I brought 3 friends to the restaurant for Cinqo de Mayo yesterday and all of us were stunned by just how bad things were - across the board. From the moment we arrived and were told the outside table we had requested 3 weeks earlier was ""unavailable"" even though we were on time and there was an open 4-top that remained ""available"" right until we left to the incredibly slow service to the lackluster food. The place is a disaster. 2 of our dishes had to be taken back (one was undercooked, the other wasn't what we ordered). The dishes themselves were ridiculously uncreative. Mine was a filet mignon taco which was, unfortunately, just that - some cut up pieces of filet mignon on a taco.....that's it. The portions were tiny and so were the drinks. The salsa came in one of those tiny little bowls that you couldn't actually fit a whole chip in - seriously. So we actually had to pour the salsa on the chip. When we quickly finished the salsa it was virtually impossible to get the waiter's attention to get more. Same with the drinks. For 13 dollars we got what was barely a shot of tequila. (I know this for a fact, because when i asked the waiter if the bartender could be a bit more generous - the waiter returned with a shot glass filled with my tequila and explained that the manager said this - pointing to the shot glass - was all i was getting for my $13 dollars. Can you believe it ????) $250 later and still hungry we left the restaurant and vowed never to come back (even though we leave only 3 blocks away!) Pros: good quacamole Cons: everything. price, service, noise, food. more

Get the Cucumber Agave 'Rita 2/8/2008

The cucumber agave margarita was amazing. The mini tacos also stand out.\r The restaurant is situated in a fun area of town, and serves as a great place to start your night. \r Manager and staff were terrific. \r Will go again.\r \r Pros: Location and excellent margaritas. Cons: Thermostat covers jut out very far in the bar area. more

Los Dados was perfect! 2/8/2008

Awesome chips & salsa. GUAC was amazing. I didn't see flavored frozen margaritas on the menu, but I ordered a Strawberry one anyway, what I got was brillant. It was a regular frozen margarita with the glass lined with a real strawberry mixuture. Brillant and delicious. It was like having chunks of fruit in my drink (does that make it healthy? Absolutely!). \r I didn't have a full dinner, but the menu looked great. We order some of the mini taco app. and they were fantastic. Staff seemed friendly and the bar area was hoping. Pros: Drinks, Apps, atomsphere Cons: I live far away more
