Pricey? Not true! 1/26/2006

Landmark Theatres in the Twin Cities currently charges $8 for a general admission ticket and $5.25 for a bargain matinee. With the majority of theatres charging $8.50/$6.50, how is the Lagoon pricey? more

lagoon cinema rocks 8/31/2005

Lagoon shows quality independent films and its a good place to go, not any better or any worse than Uptown. Granted Lagoon is not ultra-cheap, but I was able to catch a freebie every now and then, so to me it averages out not so bad. Make sure to go early if you think movie youre planning on watching will be popular lines can get really long. Even better, buy tickets early and have a dinner at one of the many Uptown restaurants for a nice date night. Try to park at a meter though, since Lagoons parking lot is not cheap. more

Nice place to see an independent film 8/21/2005

Lagoon Cinema is known for running independent films. If there is a good movie playing, expect to stand in line outside the door. Parking can be kind of tough as well, so get there earlier enough to get a spot, stand in line and then get some popcorn. The theatre is clean and has a lot of character. more

Decent Theater for Indies 8/19/2005

Although not as glamorous as its big brother, the Uptown, the Lagoon Theater is a prime destination for independent and foreign cinema in the Twin Cities. The Lagoon is owned by Landmark Theatres, so expect to spend some serious money to catch a film. A date for two will set you back at least $30 bucks. The Lagoon is one of the locations for the Twin Cities international film fest and offers better sound and projection than either Oak Street Cinema or Bell Auditorium. The interior decoration is cheesy, but at least they tried. You don’t need a ticket to use the bathroom (upstairs in the lobby), so keep the Lagoon in mind when your stuck in uptown and really have to go. Don’t park in the lot next to the theater; they charge exorbitant rates. Seek out street parking a few blocks west on Humboldt. more

Unique Indy 8/18/2005

If you want to see something interesting or unique, check out what is playing at the Lagoon Cinema. It is a very nice theater and is usually quite clean. Plus, because of the location in Uptown, you will be able to find some place to grab a drink or bite to eat after the show. more

Lagoon Delivers 8/18/2005

The next time you can't find a good movie, see what's playing at Lagoon. The cinema offers indie and arts films you won't find anywhere else. The ticket prices are somewhat high, but that is understandable considering the size of the theatre. The facilities are clean and easy to access, and located near many uptown attractions. more

Great Art House in Uptown 8/17/2005

The Lagoon Theater is one of my favorite theaters in the Twin Cities. They only show films in limited release. The theaters are very clean and well designed. The consessions stand is stocked with the usual stuff, but they also have an espresso bar so you can have a latte while you watch your movie. Downsides would be that it is in Uptown and parking can get a pain. Validating your parking stub only takes half off the parking price. It's also pretty expensive for the ticket. Overall, I do love this theater. Few others show the movies it shows. more

Great Independent Theater 8/17/2005

The Lagoon Cinema is a great place to watch independent films in the Twin Cities. The theater is clean, and the films are often not shown anywhere else in the area. The only drawback to the Lagoon is pricing; compared to other theaters in the Twin Cities, it is pretty expensive. more

Great Choice for Alternative Movies 8/5/2005

The Lagoon Theater was a great addition to the Uptown area. Better yet the theater was a great addition to Minneapolis. The basic high demand every day movies are not what this theater is about. Instead, you are treated a collection of high quality foreign and or independent films. It's seems perfect that this style of theater is in Uptown. When looking for something to do, take it look at this theater's selections for something different. Most of the films are quite notable and worthy of showing even if the big mega plexes do not carry them. And actually, I'm glad they don't . more

Old School Theater 8/4/2005

Having a theater like this in Minneapolis is a treat. It is one of the only theaters around that you can find a lot of the indie films that come out. It doesn't have a fancy look or any stadium seats though. And you have to pay for parking unless you find a spot on the street. But this has become an uptown landmark. more

Great theater with great films 7/29/2005

This isn't your everyday theater. This theater shows films you won't find at every other mall theater known to man. This theater shows independent and quality films. The theater itself is a bit old compared to todays stadium seating theaters but all of that is put to rest once the films start. A great place to go during the week or out with friends for a weekend flick! more
