My boyfriend and I went here for date night on a recommendation from my sister. We werent too thrilled with the entire experience. Upon arrival, we were quickly ushered to a table...

absolutely terrrrrrrible! 6/23/2008

I, along with 4 other women, made a 6:30 reservation for a Saturday. After the server placed our order he came back to tell us that the prices for the appetizers would be double!! (Not listed on the menu) Let's just say that a $20 plate of fried calamari was not worth it! The other plates were not good (eggplant rollatini was slop, mozzarella was old and rubbery, mushrooms were soggy and hadn?t been drained properly.) $20 bucks for each of these is just ridiculous. At the end they had the audacity to put an automatic gratuity on the check. Nowhere had that been specified on the menu for certain table sizes. When I asked for it to be taken off and to speak to a manager the server had the nerve to start yelling at me. \r \r I really felt like we were taken advantage of and never have I been so disappointed and downright furious at a restaurant. Cons: service and food more

Wonderful Restaurant 5/12/2008

I highly recommend this restaurant. The food and service are excellent. I have been there numerous times and it never disappoints. more

Average Food and Service 5/11/2008

I have been to almost every BYO in philly, and all I can say about this one is that it is average. The food was good, but nothing creative or exceptional. The service was also average- they were very polite but also forgot to get us an ice bucket 3 times for our wine. If you are in the area and want some good food, I would recommend it. But there are also very good BYO's around the corner that I think offer a more original menu. Pros: Price Cons: At best it's average more

Very Rushed 4/6/2008

We went on a friday at 6:30. We were seated right away. The server and staff were friendly. The food was good, but not great. It was inexpensive, and B.Y.O.B which was nice. Our table was dirty, there were stains on the table cloth. They never asked us if we wanted dessert, they told us that we looked like we were already full. I asked for the tiramisu and the waiter said that i didnt want it cause it was cold, although the woman at the table across from me had some. Basically they needed our table for a big party that was coming in ,so they rushed us out. Pros: Seated immediatly, window seating, good food, BYOB Cons: Rushed, dirty table more

unfriendly service 4/5/2008

We had dinner with some friends and it was the second time that we rushed out of the restaurant because they had to prepare the tables for another party. They served us so quickly that we didn't have time even to talk and as soon we were done, they took everything away and brought the check and 5 minutes later we were asked to leave. This was totally inappropriate. more

Great Service, Great Atmosphere, Better Food 4/4/2008

A group of 12 friends of mine went here for a birthday. They gave us a large table in the back so we could talk and be loud and not disturb the other patrons. The food came out in a timely fashion. Being from massachusetts i have had some good mussels before, but their mussel appetizer is among the best. Their tiramisu is also delectible. I highly recommend this place to others, i have been twice since. more

DO NOT MAKE RESERVATIONS HERE 3/10/2008

Do not try and make reservations here. They do not honor them. We had booked a party of 50 almost a year in advance for a rehearsal dinner and even attempted to put down a deposit, but the manager said it wasn't necessary. The restaurant called up less than 3 months before the wedding and said they couldnt honor the reservation because they were overbooked. This place is very poorly managed. Pros: Size Cons: Management more

If you like salad out of a bag, this is the place for you! 2/23/2008

My boyfriend and I went here for date night on a recommendation from my sister. We werent too thrilled with the entire experience. Upon arrival, we were quickly ushered to a table in the corner. The salad was out of a bag with NOTHING on the plate but lettuce. The soup was watery and just plain not good; lacking flavor and substance. Our meals were ok. I could have made them at home and they would have tasted the same, if not better. The timamasu had been frozen at some point, but they claimed it was homemade. (it had icy spots throught the entire dessert). The service was annoying. They were quick to get food out as well as get them out of the way for us. It was a very rushed experience. I can think of at least 15 other places to go before I would go back to this one. Dont waste the calories or your money. Pros: BYO Cons: Food, Service, Parking more

HORRIBLE service! MEDIOCRE food at best. 2/7/2008

I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. I know I will NEVER go to this restaurant again. The maitre d' was extremely rude, and the wait staff rushed us out of the restaurant because they had scheduled another reservation right after us. The restaurant kept claiming they had all these ""rules."" The food was mediocre at best, and you can probably cook better Italian food at home. Though it was not expensive, your money is better spent elsewhere! Pros: food was mediocre Cons: service, food more

Liar, Liar Pants on Fire! 1/13/2008

On a recent Saturday night myself and 5 friends made reservations for 8pm. When we arrived at 7:50 the hostesses very nicely said that our table would be ready in just a minute. We returned to the sidewalk to wait where two biggger parties with reservations were also waiting. (This should have tipped us off!) After ten mintues, we asked again about our table. Again, we were told it would only be a minute. After about another five minutes - it is now 8:15 - we asked again and the hostess said that ""our table has had their check for 20 or 30 minutes but just had not gotten up."" Again I returned to the sidewalk where the other two parties were still waiting as well. Finally, someone else in our party went in to ask again about our reservation and the woman pointed to ""our table"" where the people were just ordering dessert! Unbelievable. We simply turned and left and we will not return! By the way, we went to Aya's Cafe, a great mediterranean restaurant in Logan Square. \r \r In fairness, I must say that we have been to La Fontana Della Citta on three previous occasions, all of which were nice. Good food. Good service etc. Nothing fantastic but still good. more

Great BYOB Italian 11/6/2007

This is one of our favorite places in the city. The Gnocchi is the best we've had outside of Italy. The key is to order it with the sauce from the pasta special. It is usually a pink sauce with Shrimp and crab. The Tiramisu is also excellent. Be prepared to wait, the restaurant is a BYOB (a plus) with no bottle charge, but also has NO waiting area. You basically stand in the door. The staff is very pleasant but on busy nights can get backed up. You are not rushed and can usually finish your bottle of wine in peace. There is a nice back room for larger parties. (We've gone with as many as 20 people with a reservation). The price is reasonable, usually less than $100 per couple including tip for Appetizer, Entrees and dessert. Did I mention the Tiramisu. This may not be a destination spot, but it is a can't miss when you crave good Italian. more

great outdoor seating 10/19/2007

I just keep coming back. If you want great pasta, great food, great service, and a comfortable classy atmoshpere, this is the palace for you! I have been here three times in the last month alone, it's worth the trip, its inxpensive, and you will keep coming back! Pros: service (they offered us free wine!), pasta (fettucini with porcini muschroom is incredible, and the gnocci is great too) Cons: parking is tough more

Great Restaurant - Pleasantly Surprised 7/11/2007

We stumbled upon this restaurant one night looking for a place to eat. No reservations, and a little off the beaten path. It was crowded and all the seats outside were taken so we decided it was probably a good place. Since it is a byob, we didnt have any wine with us, but they offered us complimentary house wine. The appetizers and the main courses were excellent, and the dessert was amazing. We were so surprised when we got the bill.....it wasnt that expensive at all considering all the food we ate. We were very pleased with the service and the food. It is highly recommended!!! We started with the Eggplant Rollantino which was delicious, and had assorted entres such as gnocchi, rissotto and eggplant parmagiana, all fantastic. Pros: The Food and Ambience, Outdoor seating nice. more

Haven't Been Disappointed 5/7/2007

I have yet to dine at this elegant-looking establishment, but I have asked for take-out several times. Each time I get the Fettucini al Porcini (mushrooms), and it's really delicious. The wait staff are extremely friendly when I come to pick it up, and on weeknights it never takes longer than 15 minutes to be ready.\r \r Give this place a try. more

Great food, Great times 3/10/2007

This center city BYOB is by far the best in the city. We went with a party of 6 and were seated right away and had great service. The food was excellent and the restaurant was very comfortable and welcoming. We took our time and were never rushed, they treated us like part of the family. This is a great place! Pros: very friendly staff, great location, seating was not too close together more
