Best in Denver 1/26/2005

La Cueva is far above any mexican restaurant in Denver. I know authentic Mexican food from my granny's kitchen and La Cueva only serves the best. The tortillas are homemade pillows of goodness, and the chile rellenos are HOT! (fair warning) filled with the perfect amount of cheese and smothered in tasty green chile. The chips and salsa get your tongue worked up for a holy experience. Choose a specialty marg and you'll be in heaven. The desserts are standard; flan, sopapillas, if you like chocolate go for the stuffed sopapilla with mexican chocolate ice cream, mmmmmm. If you don't like the heat then get out of La Cueva! Pros: Great Food, Spicy, Homemade more

Authentic Mexican 2/20/2004

For anyone that enjoys TRUE authentic Mexican food, La Cueva is the place to go. It is the only restaurant I have been to in Denver that matches the Mexican cuisine I have had during my visits to Mexico. The food itself is excellent. The service is always pleasant, although it can be slow on occasion. Again, if you are looking for REAL authentic Mexican -- LaCueva is the only place to go! Pros: Big portions, Value, Cool decor Cons: , not the greatest area more

Meat to Eat? 6/6/2003

Went for lunch. I underestimated the amount of food I was going to receive. My soft tacos were overstuffed with meat. I had to eat with a fork until I had enough room to put in my avocado, salsa (would be perfect if it had cilantro in it - and my secret ingredient) tomato and lettuce! Delicious food, but enough for two. The margarita was too frozen to drink and a bit on the sweet side - I like them tart. Next time, I'll order less food and try a beer. Overall it was a good experience. My friend enjoyed it as well. My chips weren't warm. Pros: Hot/Quick service, Friendly Cons: Parking is tight more

Don't believe the hype 2/26/2003

I went here based on the excellent write ups that it received. I was plesantly suprised with the nice decor in such a rough neighborhood. That was by far the best part of the night. It took over an hour for the food to come after we had ordered. This is by far the longest I have ever had to wait for Mexican food. When it finally came it was average at best. Stick to the West side of town for the best Mexican. Pros: Nice Decor Cons: Bad Service, Average Food, Poor Parking more

Horrible! 2/10/2003

To be honest with you, I eat Mexican food 3-4 times a week. I would honestly say, La Cueva has to be one of the worst mexican restaurants in Denver (Aurora). Everything comes out soggy and not spicey. The salsa is filled with onions, the huevos rancheros looks like someone spilled a glass of water on it, and the tacos fall apart! What the only thing I am somewhat thankful for is that I never got sick from eating there. It was definitely a close one but I was alright. My true opinion is that, ""It doesnt hold a candle to Taco Bell"" Pros: Alcohol Cons: Horrible food, Service sucks more

Denver's Best by Far!!! 1/17/2003

I've been going to eat here for years!! I've been to almost every mexican food establishment in the Denver area and La Cueva blows them all away! Yeah, the service kinda sucks but i don't go to restaurants based on service. I GO TO EAT! more

30 plus years 11/14/2002

I drive from Boulder to Aurora for the fabulous food at La Cueva. The owners have been serving the freshest food for over 30 years and I have been a patron for all those years. My many friends and I have never chosen an item off the menu that we didn't love. Try it once and you will go back many times. Pros: great food, good service, friendly owners Cons: busy, could use more parkin more
