Always a Pleasure-Always a Treat! 6/12/2012

I know I've reviewed and rated Kwang Chow before, but that was four years ago and I thought I'd send another positive comment! We're still happy with the food and the service! A number of people have mentioned the outdated and somber d?cor, but that's not really important...the food is still great and so is the service! No complaints...only compliments...and they're still #1 on our speed dial! However, speaking of the ""dated"" d?cor, it would be a great place to have a 50's or a ""retro"" party...and there's plenty of parking for all those old classic cars too! Just sayin'... Jim Kahn Hmmm...and now I'm hungry...think I'll call for a daily special right now! more

Regular Customer Loves the Simple Classic Dishes 12/3/2010

I live near this restaurant and go here often (3-4 times per month). It is really good Chinese food. It is simple and fresh with classic dishes that taste just as they should. My one piece of advice is to take the food to go. The restaurant itself is depressing. I believe they would get a lot more business if they would spruce it up a bit. more

Great food hiding in bad decor 1/6/2010

Kwang Chow was literally my introduction to Chinese food, having grown up just down the street. I grew tired of it as a teenager and branched out to more expensive, modern Chinese restaurants. Now as an adult whenever I crave delicious simple Chinese food I head straight to this place. I do wish they would get a makeover though, It really can drag down the experience. Pros: friendly staff, simple menu, time tested Cons: very old decor, bad lighting more

Good, Fresh Chinese Food 9/14/2009

I have been a customer of Kwang Chow since 1985, having previously enjoyed Lani Louie's and Canton Grill. In my opinion, I have never had better Chinese food than that served at Kwang Chow. Its quality is consistently fresh, hot and flavorful, the portions are always more than adequate, and the service is always friendly. My preference is the Daily Special, something I get to-go - it feeds two, in our case. Pros: Food is fresh, flavorful Cons: Restaurant atmosphere is gloomy more

Great Food! 7/27/2009

Best Food in town 11/2/2008

Since finding Kwang Chow, my wife and I have eaten there at least once a month for the last two years. The service is average, but always consitant. The food is so flavorful that you will not eat chineese food anywhere else. I suggest the kung pow chicken, and their tastey eggrolls. Pros: Tastey chow more

Please, try for yourself! 9/16/2008

My first experience at this restaurant was probably about 5 years ago, while I was in high school. A group of my friends were going out to dinner, and invited me along when my previous plans didn't work out (thankfully!!!). My best friend told me she'd only ever ordered one thing because she couldn't bring herself to order anything else, it was so good -- so I copied her order, and have been happily stuck in the same pattern ever since! I always order the Sweet and Sour Chicken -- it is absolutely delicious! The chicken is always tender, and the batter always crispy and fresh, never soggy or greasy; the sauce is sweet and sour wonderfulness -- that's the best way I can describe it :P; and you get a LOT for the price! I also love their Pork Fried Rice (which comes on the side of the Sweet and Sour Chicken), and their hot tea is the best I have ever had from a Chinese restaurant -- and with how much I love the cuisine, I've had a lot! Pros: Wonderful food, service, and experience in general. Cons: Outdated decor -- but I kind of like it. more

Worst food ever 4/11/2008

This is the some of the worst food I have ever had, and not just at a Chinese restaurant. My boyfriend and I tried it because it is just down the street from his apartment and got several good reviews. We normally love asian food, but this was awful. The food was greasy and tasteless. The sesame chicken was essentially chicken nuggets with sesame seeds in the batter. The lo mein was in a bland sauce. We went for take out and had to wait in the restaurant for about 25 minutes. They also don't take credit or debit, so we had to use the ATM, adding about $3 in fees to our bill. The food was average in price, but for the quality of food was way overpriced. Pros: It's close to home Cons: The food more

SIMPLY AWFUL 3/31/2008

I love Chinese food and the various ways to prepare Chinese cuisines. I am also adventurous and keen to try new and different restaurants ranging from Mom & Pop working class eateries to elegant dining rooms. Pros: I can not seriously think of any highlights. Cons: Awful Food, Dreadful Ambience more

GROSS!! 1/13/2008

This restaurant is old and the food is terrible. The prices were expensive and the food was so gross. I ordered four dishes for two people and we barely touched any of it. The restaurant needs some serious updating, I think its still stuck in the sixties. Pros: Non Cons: bad food, super bad ambience more

GOOD FOOD, GOOD SERVICE, WHO NEEDS MORE? 11/1/2007

I AM A LOCAL GOURMET CHEF WHO IS VERY FOND OF CHINESE FOOD. I HAVE EATEN AT KWANG CHOWS FOR OVER 15 YEARS NOW AND HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD DINING EXPERIENCE THERE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEIR KUNG POW SHRIMP. I GET IT AT ALMOST EVERY VISIT. BEWARE, IT IS VERY SPICY. YUM. THEIR FU YUNGS ARE WONDERFUL AND FILLING, AND THE FRIED RICES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DONE TO PERFECTION. TRY IT, YOU'LL SEE HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE COOKED. Pros: GOOD VARIETY, GREAT TASTES, EASY ACCESS Cons: WHAT THEY LACK IN DECOR, THEY MORE THAN MAKE UP IN FLAVOR more

Favorite Family Restaurant 8/24/2007

I don't remember the first time I walked into the Kwang Chow Restaurant because I think my mom was pregnant with me. My family has been going there for years. My grandpa loved it because he could smoke and eat at the same time (although not everyone in the family enjoyed this). My parents loved it cause they could get a family dinner for a lower price. When I was about 10 or 12 years old, they use to let me go into the back and get an extra fortune cookie and an RC. Now that I am grown up, I can walk in there and they know my name, ask how my family is doing and the service is always excellent! I took my fiance in there for the first time and he is stuck. He loves it! Definitely one of these BEST Chinese food restaurants around! Pros: Food, Service and Price Cons: Smoking Area, Worn down, smaller more

Are you crazy people???!! 6/24/2007

I read the reviews and many people seem satisfied with this restaurant. I called in an order for take out. I picked up my food but the food was not what I had ordered. I guess they didn't understand me or something!! The food was not good at all. The fried rice had no flavor and they sprinkled cut up pieces of bbq pork on top of the fried rice; basically it was rice fried with soy sauce, the sweet and sour shrimp had sauce that tasted basically like ketchup but sweetened, and the pork that I ordered was all fatty and gross. Come on people!! This is not a good restaurant. You must not have ever tried real chinese food! Cons: everything more

Lunch Buffet was not good, small selection, not fresh 4/30/2007

After seeing the great reviews online, I thought this was one of THE places to try Chinese food. Unfortunately, I am again disappointed. I dropped in for lunch at about 12:20 and I was able to grab a table right away.....this should have warned me. If the food is that great, wouldn't there be a wait for a table? Going against my normal rule on dining out ,(do not eat at a restaurant if it is almost empty during a normally busy time of day) I grabbed one of the many open tables. I ignored the slightly stale smell of the place because all of the reviews said it was a funky diner but the food was excellent. I take a tour of the buffet (1 small section of hot food and 1/4 section of cold lettuce/fruit section), not a lot of choices but that's OK, I grab my plate and head to the hot food. Everyone said the spring rolls were awesome and the best they had ever tasted, I am not sure where they have dined at, but they were definitely not the best I had ever eaten. They had good flavor but the filling was not really distinguishable, everything inside was mushy and the outside was very greasy. The noodle dishes were better than the ones at the fast food chinese shops in the malls but the kung pao chicken had no flavor and did not look very fresh. The price of the buffet was the same compared to some of the other Chinese buffet lunch places around the city, but the other palces have a much better selection and better food. Overall it was a very disappointing lunch. Pros: Qucik Seating, Easy to find Cons: Food not fresh, greasy. more

You will never find an eggroll this good again! 4/14/2007

You will honestly never taste another eggroll that is better, or one that can compare. My family has been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. Including Grandparents, parents, my siblings and all of our children. I have completely stopped going to any other Chinese restaurant because there is just not another place in Oregon, Washington or California that I have found that can even compare to this one. It is definately causal dining, with a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for children. It is not decorated fancy, but the food and the service is great. The same waitresses have been there for over 15 years, and they are married to the cooks. It is family owned, and even the daughters of the owners have worked there over the years. If you like spice just ask for some of the chili sauce on the side... it will make your mouth water and set your taste buds on a roller coaster ride. This is a must try restaurant. Every friend or extended family member that we have taken with us has become a regular return visitor, because they too can't find another place that has Chinese food that is this GOOD. Pros: Egg Rolls, Service, Price, Cons: None that I can think of more

Not fancy but ecellent food 10/9/2006

Kwang Chow Restaurant has been my favorite Chinese food restaurant for about 15 yrs. They are a friendly group of people, their food is always good, and the price is right. My favorite dish is the pork noodle soup, ""lots of pork"" when ever I order pork noodle soup from other restaurants, I compare it to Kwang Chows and I have not found one that compares :no joke"" Years ago I took my son there, he was 9yrs. old, they taught him how to eat with chop sticks and to this day he remembers them and always talks about how he learned to eat with sticks. Thank you Kwang Chow. Pros: Friendly, excellent food Cons: Not trying it. more

G R E A T 5/14/2006

I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE...CAN YOU TELL? Pros: Great Food, Great Serice, Friendy staff Cons: If you dont go, If you dont go, If you dont go more
