These guys SAVED my dog's life after several other vet's failed to help him.\r We appreciate all they have done for our group.

Worst

I took my cat here late one night with a urinary obstruction. They put a plastic catheter in that easily bent and caused urine blockage. They also put it in at a terrible angle ...

We went to this vet clinic last night with an older small dog in distress while having puppies. We had already lost one puppy & did not want to lose the dog. We took her home very early this morning with 2 puppies and she is recovering nicely. I just lost my father one month ago & could not stand to lose this family pet. Yes, it was expensive. Very expensive as are all emergency rooms. Plus, I chose to pay it. I did not have to & did not feel pressured to. I feel like we got very good vet care & immediate attention. Other less invasive & less expensive options were tried before we chose a C section for the dog. The facility is nice & clean & had amenities for us while we were there for our very long stay. Thank goodness the vet & the attendants are there & this option for emergency vet care exists. I will be paying off this bill for a long time. And hopefully I will have the dog for a lot longer as well. Thank you Dr. Davenport and staff at Knoxville Pet Emergency Clinic. more

I am so pissed off right now that I cannot hardly contain myself. Our beloved cat whom my wife loved became ill. We called our vet who was closing and told us about this place. We called them, they said it would be $82 bring her in so we did. We entered, what a mistake that was. We were expecting to be put into a room with our little buddy but instead they took her away to the back, then the other girl immediately came over and gave us the estimate. WHAT A FRIGGING SHOCKER. The estimate was almost $500. The doctor was extremly rude, I would call him something else but that isn't my style. Anyhow I was so mad I went the car and left my poor crying wife inside, I wasn't mad at spending the money but I was pissed at the shear audacity of them charging that much, then this rude doctor came and said she was going quickly, my wife was crying hysterically and wanted to see her cat one last time. We were expecting the cat to have been on a table drugged and peaceful, instead the poor thing was in some type of oxygen cage, the cat was sitting up jerking uncontrollably with blood and mucus coming out of her mouth. What a horrible sight, just horrible, they should have told us what she looked like. She wasn't that bad when we took her in, she was only there for one hour or so and now my wife has that horrible sight as the last time she saw her cat. Our final for the hour or so was almost $400. WHAT A RIPOFF. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL THERE. I will certainly never forgive them. more

I left this place very angry. I did not get the care I needed for my 14 year old German Shepherd Dog, in fact, I didn't get ANY care, except a pain medication that she didn't need (Torbugesic), and which made her miserable for several hours while she was coming off of it. I was told that it was very mild. In fact, however, when I looked it up, it is a very POWERFUL drug. She slept for several hours, but was refluxing, whining, and had a fever for several hours after she woke up. Once the drug wore off, she was comfortable. I also got very expensive routine blood work (expense was expected at an ER, but...) and some poor quality X-rays. They then told me that my dog was bleeding internally, probably from a cancer ( that was a guess, you can't make that diagnosis from the paltry tests they did) that she was dehydrated, but that IV fluids might kill her, basically, that she was dying. They then wanted to keep her overnight in a cage, and when I said that I was taking her home to die there, instead of alone with strangers, they were dismissive, and made me sign an ""against medical advice"" form. Later that day (a Sunday) my regular vet called, and provided me with sub-q fluids to administer, and these eased the dehydration, and helped make the last hours of her life more comfortable. \r \r Bottom line, do not use this place. They provided me with some sketchy diagnostics, no treatment, and a $500+ bill. And they were basically pretty disrespectful. There are at least 2 other pet ER's in the area, one on Kingston Pike, and the other in Maryville. I will try one of these if I ever need emergency care after hours again. more

3/12/14 I cannot express in words how horrible this office was from the moment we walked through the door. The desk staff basically snatched my dog from hands declaring he had to go on oxygen, when he was clearly breathing normally. We came in at about 12:30 am b/c we thought he may have a piece of bone in his throat. He was not in distress and just appeared mildly discomforted. The office staff member was bad, but the vet was worse. We wanted to be with our dog and the office member took us to an exam room stating we could not be with our dog b/c he needed oxygen and we had to wait for the vet come in to talk with us. He showed up and rambled on forever, basically giving us a lesson in anatomy and telling us nothing. He built up our situation with the worst scenario, never once calling our beloved pet by his name. He was completely cold and almost sarcastic. He stated we needed xrays and I reiterated that I wanted to be with my dog. He advised he bring the ""little one"" to us to wait for the xrays. His rambling just continued until we said please just do the xrays. He left and the office staff returned with our dog, who was obviously stressed and panting. His eyes were red and he was shaking. Office girl stated she was going to get the consent and estimate. We told her we did not care about the estimate to please just do the xray. Of course the estimate was not optional which I got after seeing what the beginning estimate was. Not that we would not have paid it, there is no price we would not pay for his comfort. Their total lack of compassion and their attitudes left us both with a horrible feeling. The vet returned, clearly perturbed with my attitude, which admittedly was less than pleasant. I asked again to do the xray instead of standing there talking and he had the audacity to tell me we held up the xray be demanding to be with our pet. After some discussion with my husband we both decided this staff was not going to touch our dog again. Upon declining the services and attempting to leave, office girl told us we had to wait for the vet. We did not and promptly left. We decided to go to the emergency clinic on the west side of town until I googled them and realized they were affiliated with this wretched place. Our dog appears to have coughed up whatever was bothering him and we are taking shifts to stay up and watch him until he can go to his doctor in the morning. I would not take a dirty sock back to this vet. I have never had such an immediate dislike for anyone like I felt for him. I am saddened to read all of these heartbreaking reviews from folks who lost their pets through the careless treatment of this office. more

Poor Workmanship 12/18/2012

I took my cat here late one night with a urinary obstruction. They put a plastic catheter in that easily bent and caused urine blockage. They also put it in at a terrible angle so that the urine would drip out onto the cat instead of flowing out. My regular vet was flabergasted. I ended up having to take him to U.T. to have the same procedure reperformed, costing me double what I should have paid to begin with. I am also angry at U.T. because they referred me to this clinic the night that the obstruction occurred with the claim that my cat would would be seen faster than he would down at the vet school. more

Never go there 6/4/2012

Several years ago my dog had gotten into some medication that she shouldn't have (my son's adderall). She was all hyped up. I didn't know if she could die from this dose or not. At the least she seemed uncomfortable. The vet seemed confident that he could sedate her and she would be fine and I could pick her up in the morning. According to my own vet who reviewed her records from the emergency clinic he gave her an overdose and she died. My vet was very angry when he reviewed her chart. They didn't call me to tell me she died, they let me show up in the morning and gave her to me in a trash bag!! The vet did not even come out to speak to me. Will never ever go back to them. UT Vet Hospital is wonderfull. more

Bad experience 10/3/2011

I took my cat here late on a Friday night after he had gotten into a fight with a dog. The front desk staff seemed unconcerned about my cat. The vet took x-rays and told us he had no internal injuries, gave him pain meds and antibiotics and sent us home with instructions to follow up with our regular vet the next day. When we got him home I was extremely surprised by his condition. He was clearly in shock and still bleeding from his wounds. He couldn't control his hind legs. I don't understand why they did not keep him for monitoring overnight, but they did not. When I got to my vet on Saturday morning the situation was clearly much more grave than we were led to believe. He did in fact have a penetrating abdominal wound and his condition had deteriorated dramatically in the 8 or so hours since we left the night before. Our vet sent us to another Pet Emergency Clinic and our experience there was completely professional and compassionate. It turns out our cat was in critical condition and we unfortunately had to put him to sleep. I am not sure the outcome would have been any different had I gone to the second Pet Emergency Clinic on Friday night but I know I would have felt much better about the standard of care and competency and concern for my cat. I would not recommend going here when there are other outstanding options in Knoxville. more

Can't say thank you enough. 3/28/2011

Rude staff and Price was way too high 12/3/2010

I called and was under the impression of an 85 visit fee, When I got there, the fee went up to 216. I refused to pay this because the fee increased for what I considered totally outrageous for such a small procedure. My dog encountered an injury that needed triple anitbacterial ointment and they wanted to sedate him and place dermatape on it and wanted to upcharge an exta 130 for that. The staff was also rude and I will never return. Terrible customer service and lack of compassion for those who may not have the extra money to spend in such times of financial strain. more

Great Experience. 6/13/2010

While on vacation in Gatlinburg, two of my three dogs got sick late on Sat night. Not knowing where anything was, we had to wait until early Sunday morning to get them to a doctor. Everyone was very nice, and they very quickly got us seen, examined, and medications to take care of my babies. I expected a sky high bill but it was the same it would have been at my regular vet. more

shame on you all 4/25/2010

yeah all i have to say is "money makes the world go around" how dare a place profess to love animals, yet turn away an animal for help just because the "parents" have no money up front and not enough credit to get this crappy "care card" they tell you to apply for...now as of this afternoon, the doggie has suffered his last moment and taken his last breath..he is now gone from this family..no thanks to snooty selfless peoplee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Excellent Service 2/14/2010

The staff at the Knoxville Pet Emergency Clinic were very helpful and polite. I was very concerned about my pet and the staff was encouraging and professional. I was also worried as my dog is fearful of men, however, the male doctor on duty put her at ease very quickly. I knew the initial costs up front and was able to make decisions from that point and my dog received excellent care. I'm sorry that they are an emergency clinic as I would be happy to place my pet's routine healthcare in their very capable hands. more

Knoxville Pet Emergency Clinic 7/27/2009

I took my pet in 2 weeks ago for gastroenteritis. The clinic vet did a check-up and gave me an on the spot quote. The quote was exactly what I paid. They were helpful however I have had some difficulty having my insurance claim form filled out and faxed over to the insurance company. Veterinarians are in many instances about the money. You can prevent many medical emergencies with preventative services like teeth cleaning and regular check-ups and shots. Make sure you have pet insurance it can reimburse you up to 80%. I also have a care credit card especially for my dog so I don't have to pay out of pocket costs. more

Knoxville Pet Emergency Clinic 7/14/2009

I will say that I'm glad this place is there when there are no other options for pet care, however...The desk staff are extremely rude. My total bill was right at $1000 and it scares me to think what I would have done if I hadn't had the money. They would have turned me away. I feel like they are all about money and not about your animal. I realize this is a business, but I paid a lot of money for rude staff. The veterinarians were very nice and helpful, and like I said, I'm glad they were there. It just wouldn't hurt for the front desk staff to have some people skills. You can still ask for money and turn people away and be nice about it. more

DO NOT TAKE AN ANIMAL HERE 3/16/2009

AFTER SPENDING ALMOST $500 AND 2 TRIPS TO THIS PLACE, THE VET SAID SHE HAD DIAGNOSED MY DOG, BUT COME TO FIND OUT THAT THEY ONLY RAN EXPENSIVE TESTS AND MISDIAGNOSED HER. AFTER TAKING HER TO HER NORMAL VET SHE HAD PARVO, A $20 TEST. IT WAS OBVIOUS FROM HER SYMPTOMS SHE HAD PARVO, BUT THEY NEVER RAN THAT TEST. MY CARECREDIT WOULD NOT GO THRU ON A SUNDAY EVENING SO THEY DEMANDED THEIR PAYMENT BEFORE ALLOWING MY DAUGHTER TO LEAVE. THEY WERE PLANNING ON KEEPING MY DOG OVER NIGHT, SO IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM FOR THEM TO RUN THE CARD IN THE MORNING. THEY WERE SHOWN ON THE COMPUTER THAT I HAD A $3000 BALANCE ON THE CARD. THESE PEOPLE WERE EXTREMELY RUDE AND IN MY MIND GUILTY OF ANIMAL CRUELTY. THEY DID NOT HELP MY DOG AT ALL, CONSIDERING $500 WAS SPENT. SHE ALSO POOPED ALL OVER HER SELF WHEN IN THEIR CARE AND THEY NEVER EVEN TRIED TO CLEAN HER. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS AT ALL. THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. Pros: THERE ARE NO GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS PLACE Cons: THEY ARE ONLY OPEN TO MAKE MONEY. more

Knoxville Pet Emergency Clinic 9/11/2005

I took my cat here to be looked at after she was attacked. They did great work fixing her but the attitude of everyone there will keep me from going back. The vet was very, very rude to us and acted like we were overreacting even though my cat ended up needing a $400 surgery. The receptionist was on a personal call most of the time and we had to knock on the door very hard to get her attention. A little girl used the bathroom on the floor and the receptionist did nothing about it. If my cat wasn't already in surgery, I would have left. Stay away from this place. more

First place I go for an after hour emergency 4/28/2005

I have used this clinic several times over the years. It is only open during times when the other clinics are closed. They are a bit pricey, but they quote everything to you before they do anything. They are kind and compassionate and give your animal the best possible care in a difficult situation. PROS: Open when others are closed CONS: Pricey, but that's because of the after hours. more
