King Biscuit is listed as a Pet-Friendly restaurant on Citysearch - BUT A DISCLAIMER IS NEEDED.....dogs are NOT allowed ON the Patio, but on the EXTERIOR of the Patio. Meaning you'll have to find a table near the Patio railing that you can leash your dog to and your furry friend needs to stay on the other side of the railing from your table. \r \r The waitstaff was VERY friendly and accommodating - bringing the dogs water and a water container - but they are very mindful that the dogs do not 'cross the patio threshold'.\r \r Their Bloody Marys are terrific and the fried pickles are fab. A weekend adventure to places we hadn't been led us to King Biscuit. One of my favourite drives in Houston is along White Oak - the bayou below; the downtown skyline beyond and surrounded by old neighborhoods. It reminds me of the small suburbs in the northeast. King Biscuit is a brightly colored shack with a good amount of outdoor seating that began as a drive thru beer joint in the 80s [according to the history on the fading menus]. It's interior and exterior seem unchanged since it humble beginnings 30 years ago despite its almost legendary status in the Heights. I've been told they have some great live music nights for local jazz musicians. Oh golly, those bloody mary's are a thing to be reckoned with - they're spicy and not too thick; a good mix of celery and olives and just right the size. The weekend brunch menu is sparse but all simple, great dishes. The California eggs benedict was perfect. But the star of the meal were the potatoes. I couldn't focus on anything else, even the televangelist on the TV trying to save me on a Sunday morning in the bar. Or the hilarious art on the wall from local artists. It was hard for my date and I to finally leave but eventually we pulled ourselves out of the crackly booth and onward with our adventure. Simply the BEST Cheese Steak that I have had in Houston. Tender juicy thin sliced rib eye with double melted cheese nestled on a fantastic hoagie roll. YUM! My partner always gets one of the daily specials and raves about them. Pros: Home made food, Great Skyline views more

I started eating at King Biscuit when I first moved to Houston in 1998. Over the years, the quality of their food has fluctuated dramatically. Unfortunately, the restaurant is clearing in a down swing. Having had one of the worst meals in memory there last night, I will now be writing this restaurant off. The bad experience started with drinks. My wife ordered a glass of white wine. Since the bartender didn't have a cold bottle of the wine ordered, she decided to chill the wine by shaking it up in a shaker full of ice. So, my wife ended up with a glass of chilled, watered-down wine. Next, we ordered the spinach dip, which we've had many times in the past. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the dip was nothing more then a bowl full of congealed cheese, mixed with what tasted like frozen spinach. Finally, my wife and I both ordered the ""famous"" blackened redfish tacos. Again, I've ordered this dish in the past, and always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, last night the tacos were made with very small pieces of poorly seasoned frozen fish, which tasted very BAD. With all of the great restaurants in Houston competing for diners' business, not to even mention all of the great new restaurants in the Heights, it's unfortunate that King Biscuit has simply given up. I hate eating breakfast out because it's almost always bad but not at King Biscuit. They really get it right here and the staff is very friendly. Just please, don't everyone rush there at once. I haven't been to King Biscuit in well over a year. I went for dinner last week and to unwind after work and it was very nice. The food was average, which is fine - hot, fresh and basic. The service was very nice and that nice neigborhood feel was perfect. There was a band playing in the back and it was really a nice evening to grab a bite, have a drink and just unwind. I will be going back a lot more frequently. Pros: Comfortable atmosphere, full bar Cons: Parking can be a bit odd more

My buddy and I went there on a Friday at around 2:00pm. I'll admit I thought it looked a little sketchy from the outside but once I walked in I felt right at home. We joked about grabbing a few beers and taking the rest of the day off. Unbelievable drink selection! I had no idea this place had a full bar. I've been in Houston for six months and to this day I have not received service that comes close to being as good as what I received at this place. Our waitress was so kind and sin sear. A great since of humor too. Even one of the cooks came out to ask how the meal was. I was totally taken by surprise at the level of service at this place. \r \r I had the Potato Enchiladas. They were really great. I got a to-go order for my wife and she ate the whole thing right after she told me she only wanted a few bites. My friend had a burger and said it was really good. He said it seemed fresh and hand pressed not frozen. \r \r When my parents come to town next week I'll be taking them to the King Biscuit. As some of the other reviews have said, this is a neighborhood place, not a fine dining establishment. Although it's a little rough around the edges, we were attracted to it because of the talents of one bartender. Always friendly, pulled a mean pint, mixed a mean martini, and he had an excellent music selection, in short, he was exceptional. Anyway, I don't know if they came under new ownership or management, but a few months ago, every time we went in, there was some grumpy guy yelling at the waitresses about how they were pouring wine. Now our favorite bartender is gone as well as one of the outstanding servers. Probably won't be going back too much now. Evan, we miss you. Hopefully we'll find you at another watering hole soon. What could be a potentially nice outdoor patio is marred by cars parked adjacent to the outdoor dining area, blocking the view of the bayou. There is no landscaping, making for a very barren, concrete ""pad"" of a restaurant. Potted blooming flowers might soften the look. Food OK. Service good. A group of us at work went during lunch to try it before having a party for a co-worker. We had no trouble being seated, and our waiter was friendly. Other than those two notes we have little else positive to add. Although our waiter was friendly, the amount of time it took to receive our food was unbelievable. Unless you have a two-hour lunch break or you own the company don't even think about it for lunch. The food was terrible. Two of us had turkey burgers. We both agreed the turkey tasted great, but it was smaller than the bun. The guacamole I ordered on mine tasted sour, and the plain avocado on the other turkey burger was turning black. My co-worker could have added some lemon from her glass of tea to stop the turning, but they were out of lemons. Two other people ordered cheeseburgers, and they seemed to be okay, but for four burgers they brought a plate with three small ramekins: one of mustard, one of mayonnaise, and one of an unknown, pale, orange, tasteless sauce. They were, however, generous with the ketchup. We were thankful for the extra ketchup since the fries were scrawny and dry. We also thought the buns were soggy from the tomatoes and lettuce. One of us ordered hot-wings. She thought the chicken tasted old, and the neon-orange sauce tasted mostly of vinegar, or maybe she was tasting the raw-sewage breeze that kept wafting by. A great view of the city? Maybe of the city employees working on the sewage. In general, we were unhappy with King Biscuit. I had driven past King Biscuit a couple of times and finally decided to try it for lunch one day. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had a salad. The food wasn't bad.. it was just ok. His salad seemed to have a litle too much dressing on it and had no real taste to it. The bread for my sandwich get falling apart in my hands. Since we njoy eating at off beat places we were disappointed that the food wasnt any better. Not really good enough to warrant a return visit. okay people,\r My husband and I have been going to King Biscuit for well over a year now and have yet to have a sour experience. I love everything I've ever ordered and the staff couldn't be nicer. There was a pretty good jazzy band there about a week ago, and when there isn't live entertainment you can still enjoy watching the game at the bar. King biscuit=good more

This is the most eclectic ""Cheers"" bar in the Heights. The Hummus plate is to die for, the service is downhome and friendly, and they have WIFI so you can work at the bar while having a beer! Pros: Food, Ambience, Service Cons: The walls are salmon color more

I was pleasantly surprised when my friends took me to King Biscuit. I was a little hesitant on the name, etc., but shouldnt have been. The whole experience was really nice. We ate outside on the patio (however, there was no view of downtown since it was covered by the spring leaves on the trees), and had a lovely time. The food was great and was really classy and well done. I had the artichoke dip, which was wonderful. So was the Greek salad and chicken breast. My husband got the Philly-cheese steak which was also hearty and wonderful. My only complaint was that our waiter wasnt too friendly or exceptional. We went on a Friday night 3/19/2004. They were ""out"" of almost everything on the menu! I attempted to order 4 different entrees before choosing one that was actually available!! Then they ""forgot"" to make it! They also forgot another entree that our table had ordered, but I guess they forgot that it was even ordered at all, there was no mention of it. The waitress offered to make me something quick, which I'll say was difficult, considering that they had no food, so I ordered a green house salad, which they didn't put on my bill, ""Big Deal""! We waited for at least an hour for our food, and I found myself apologizing to my friends for choosing such a lousy place. I was very dissappointed and WILL NOT go back.
