Striking Architecture and the Philadelphia Orchestra 8/18/2005

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is the new home for the Philadelphia Orchestra. The theater was designed by architect Rafael Vinoly and sits on Broad Street anchoring the Philadelphia Avenue of the Arts. The main draw is the Philadelphia Orchestra which plays classics like Messiah during the holidays but also incorporates modern acts into their performances such as percussive pieces featuring steel drums. The lobby is beautiful and offers many refreshments during intermission such as glasses of champagne and rich chocolate brownies. A must-see while in Philadelphia. The tickets are pricey however and the cheap student seats are only sold an hour before a show based on vacancies - surely the theater could make it easier for a low income student to enjoy the arts. more
