Overrated-Not for the experienced sushi lover 8/23/2006

Kenichi is overpriced, and overrated. The service is horrible. The wait staff treat the patrons as if you should be lucky enough to sit in their section. They are unattentive, not very personable and the upsale techniques are transparent. For those who actually enjoy sushi as a delicious meal, and not just something ""to talk about"" the quality is poor and pales in comparison to some of the more traditional establishments in town. more

Very fresh but aggressive upselling! 6/26/2006

The sashimi and rolls here were extremely fresh and we found interesting and unique menu items. One of the appetizer specials on the night we were here, venison with peaches, was delectable. We had a very knowledgable and competent waitress, however, her constant upselling was annoying and pushy. She was very low key about it, but yet it was overdone and made us wonder if it was her or the restaurant's staff training. Pros: Very fresh sushi Cons: Waitstaff upselling more

Oh yeah!!! 6/25/2006

The bar scene was happening and the Sake was flowing. We tried a higher dollar bottle which I must say was awesome. (sorry can't remember the name) The place was very busy and fun. The food was great...very fresh. I'm definitely going back... If I can just remember the hostess name...I think she liked me:) more

Best Sushi in Austin! 6/11/2006

After hearing all the hype about Kenichi for years, I finally decided to try it last week. The food and atmosphere there were absolutely fantastic. I sat at the sushi bar and the chefs and waitresses were very attentive and friendly. The chefs were knowledgeable, informative, and entertaining. The sushi rolls were some of the best I've ever had in my life. I will definitely be coming back here! more

stunning. 12/19/2005

i've been living in Austin for almost a year now, and Kenichi continues to amaze me. they've added some spectacular new menu items and the staff always treats me like royalty. at times i swing by on the weekend to just hang out at the bar, it's definitely more than just a restaurant. what's even better is that although their sushi is top notch, my favorite dishes are the lamb and the ribeye! more

New Menu is OUTSTANDING!! 11/29/2005

I am a frequent guest of Kenichi and on my last visit I was Blown away by the new menu. When I talk to my friends about Kenichi they always talk about it being a sushi restaurant and I tell the them it is more than just sushi, they have fabulous cooked food. This new menu proves my point even more that Kenichi is more than just Sushi. They have several cuts of meat ( Ribeye, NY Strip, Filet, etc.), two different duck dishes, and several cooked seafood dishes. I had the Kobe Beef Ribeye and it is the best steak that I have ever had and those that were with me agree it is to die for. I wll be back for more. Pros: Service Impeccable, Innovative Cuisine, Valet Parking more

Outstanding and a definite must! 11/18/2005

I am super impressed with Kenichi! I am from out of town, but went there recently for a group event and received impeccable service and treatment by the managers and waitstaff. Our food was wonderful and the presentation was stellar. Everyone was very accomodating and friendly and I had never had to ask for extras or wait on anything - all needs were automatically taken care of. Overall we had an outstanding experience. I highly recommend Kenichi and will definitely be back! Pros: Food , Service, Ambiance more

Service ruined it all 11/14/2005

Kenichi was awful! Everything took significantly longer than it should(especially for a slow night). A different server brought us our main course, and quickly left the table without asking if we needed anything. At that time, i needed water, another cocktail and the food i had ordered was missing! Im a vegetarian, so i couldnt eat the sushi my friends had ordered. Turns out the waitress forgot to ring in my order, and she didnt even appologize for the delay in my food. Our water glasses were filled after we were finished eating. Im a waitress myself, so i understand bad days, but she was careless, rude and cocky. I will never go back to kenichi. Pros: good food Cons: bad service, too expensive more

Very Poor Service 9/20/2005

Had dinner at Kenichi Saturday night. Extremely bad service. Ruined our time. Sushi was mediocre and a steak ordered medium rare came out medium +. I think we had two waiters for our table, neither one addressed our dissatisfactions. Overpriced, especially for what you get. Had the waiter not put a service charge on the check (in super small print) for our group, we would not have left a tip. Not worth the visit. Cons: Bad Service, So So Sushi, Unpleasant more

Inmates Running the Asylum? 7/22/2005

Wow, what a fun place! Well, certainly the employees at Kenichi are having a good ole time! Ever been to a place where the bartender is too busy socializing to take your money and make you a drink? I really felt like I was imposing when I asked for a waiter to take our order. Although it was the weekend, it really was not extraordinarily busy or anything. Honestly, I don't expect much in the way of top notch service at a psuedo Japanese Fusion/Sushi restaurant, but some sample of professionalism or even a showing of mild concern for the customer would have been nice, if not expected. Everyone working there must be millionaires. more

Very Nice, but not Secluded 6/13/2005

I recently went here with my boyfriend. There is valet service right outside the door (like many places in the area). We didn't make reservations, but only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated on a Friday night (and the place was pretty busy too). Our waiter checked in often enough but was not over-powering. We absolutely loved the sushi, we ordered about 4 different types of sushi and 2 rolls, everything was wonderful! I'm not a tea drinker but enjoyed a sip of the mango-infused tea my boyfriend was drinking. The only negative to the experience was that it was not very intimate due to noisiness and sitting very closely to the couple next to us. But, overall it was a great dining experience! Pros: Great food, Valet, Chic crowd Cons: Noisy more
