Your review Place to go!? - ? - Today I often pass by KARMA with its big glass windows displaying busy hair dressers and cheerful activity-it is almost always full, never a still moment. This was my second visit to Karma and I finally got an appointment with the owner, Cheryl. Usually she is booked 3-5 weeks in advance. I walked out a happy woman- had taken pictures of my last haircut that I spent $80 on in a New York salon (my husband drove me to NYC just for that !) and wanted the same cut with slight variation.Got exactly that. Cheryl is great- she will take time out to listen to what you want and then execute it with finesse, her shears working almost effortlessly. I have had a history of unhappy haircuts where I was unable to communicate effectively what I needed or that the hairdresser was impatient to cut but not to listen. Here, you're getting superb New York high-end salon quality at a far more reasonable price. And if $52 is still above your budget, I'd recommend you wait & save up but go to KARMA if you can. You'll thank yourself for it. more

I have been a client at Karma Salon since it opened in 11/99. Before that I was Cheryl's client at Panache. My haircuts are always beautiful and garner many compliments. Cheryl makes sure, that in addition to excellent work, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. I would highly recommend Karma to anyone who wants to look great and be treated well by their stylist. I have been a loyal customer for about three and a half years and I refuse to go anywhere else. I usualy see Cheryl, the owner, and she outdoes herself every single time! From haircuts, full highlights, or going from black to blonde, it always looks PHENOMINAL! I am constantly receiving compliements on my hair and I owe it all to her! I went into Karma after Soho Hair and Day Spa "glazed" my hair pitch black. I wanted to go back to my original dark brown color, which Soho said they could not do. I called Karma today and they took me right away. After discussing the major process of stripping the color from my hair (because the glaze Soho said they used on me was a wash-out, was actual hair dye) Holly decided to do highlights all over my head that took almost three hours. They did an excellent job, although I wasn't satisfied with the color because my hair reacted to the dye differently, I called Karma right away and they took me in the same day to make my hair PERFECT. Cheryl got my color exactly how I wanted. Karma treats their customers with respect and explains everything that they are doing to your hair. I will definitely keep going back for their stellar service! more

My hair is naturally fine, dry, and can't seem to decide whether it is wavy or straight - not exactly easy to work with. At every other salon I've been to, I ask for a cut that will work with the natural (unstyled) texture of my hair, but I always seem to end up with something that looks great blown out and crummy every other day. Karma was the first salon I have ever been to where the stylist (I had Cassie) was actually successful in giving me a cut that makes my hair seem fuller, softer, and smoother every day, regardless of how much (or little) I style it. Even two months later, the cut still looks great. And because Karma doesn't sell hair products, the product recommendations Cassie gave me weren't the $30 bottles of shampoo at the front of the store but simple, affordable products that work great for my hair. For as long as I'm in New Haven, I will definitely be sticking with Cassie at Karma. more

I always go to see Jamie whenever I get my hair cut - he is so meticulous and takes his time to really do it correctly. I find that my hair falls perfectly for the next two months (until I come back for my free trim!) and I always feel relaxed afterwards. Plus, he's just a really nice guy. I definitely recommend Karma. more

Decided somewhat on a whim to go from my natural dark brown shade to platinum blond. Cassie transformed my hair, and made sure to do it in a way so that my hair (which had undergone some serious treatments) was still soft, shiny and smooth. She also gave me an amazing, versatile cut that looks great whether I take the time to blow it out or tousle some gel in it and let it go curly. I am so satisfied and will definitely be going back to see her! I highly recommend it! more

I've been going to Karma for eight years now and have never had a bad experience. Tea, a head massage, and a great hair cut -- what more could a girl ask for? I was a student during several of those years and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of service and talent of the stylists. Super! more

Karma Salon is the best. After a terrible and costly experience at another salon, I tried Karma based on a recommendation from a friend. Christie is such a great stylist! She really listens to what you want, and is honest about how it will work with your hair texture, and how much effort you will need to put in to maintain it. She spent a lot of time asking questions about what sort of things I liked and wanted in a haircut before even getting started. Very impressive! I ended up spending a quarter of what I did at the other salon, and left looking and feeling a hundred times better. I always get a ton of compliments on my hairstyle after it is done, and Christie cuts hair in a way that it will grow in nicely, and you can change the part and it still looks good. Also... When you are at Karma you are treated so well. At the Salon where I had a bad experience, I was barely given the time of day, probably because I wasn't carrying an Hermes handbag and talking about me recent trip to Europe. At Karma, you are welcomed warmly and offered something to drink, and the vibe in the room is so friendly. You can tell that the stylists all are friends with one another, and the way that they treat their clients is friendly and down to earth. I can't say enough about this place! I'm so glad that I went. I will continue to go there as long as I am living in the area. I would probably even travel pretty far if I do ever move... -Sharon more
