Don't ever eat here 11/19/2010

One of my worst experiences eating out in this area of Houston. The food was average above Chinatown restaurants food. My biggest problem about this restaurant is because one water boy in particular. I came in to eat with my wife and there was this Hispanic guy that was flirting and kept trying to hit on my wife. My wife got really annoyed and told him we don't need your service at our table. He made this look that I knew he understood what my wife was saying and he said something in Spanish, it sounded very vulgar. I heard one of the waiters call him by name, I think it was Hulio, not sure if I spell that right. My wife and I will never go back here again. more

Yay for Chinese! 9/26/2010

Great ambiance. Lance is the best waiter there, ask for him!! Most of the dishes I have tried are definitely a super notch higher than other Chinese restaurants I have tried. Love the wonton soup. Bo luc Lac is my friends absolute favorite. more

Good but not Great 10/20/2009

I used to love Kams, it was my favorite chinese restaurant. Pros: Great Soup, Wonderful Veggie Rolls Cons: Changed using white meat chicken for dark meat more

5 stars? Let's be honest here. 8/22/2009

Favorite Chinese Restaurant in the City 7/11/2007

I love Chinese and have tried at least five other Chinese restaurants in Houston even though I've only lived here a couple of months, and this place is by far the best. Fabulous dumplings - the best I've had anywhere and great orange beef (though I have to admit, I've the kung pao is a little lackluster). Service is really fantastic - great attitude, great manners, and very attentive. more

Great chinese 2/23/2007

Kam's is a perfect, casual yet intimate Chinese place with good service and good food. Their lunch specials are extremely well priced. I've always had good and friendly service there and think of it first when I think Chinese. The pork dumplings are some of the best I've had in Houston. The General Tso's chicken and Orange chicken are great! There is one kind of weird Indonesian curry dish with tofu that wasn't great, however everything else I've had has been fantastic. Great lunch specials and a great ambiance for dinner too. Pros: food, service, dumplings, value Cons: parking more

I concur, excellent for lunch 11/13/2006

I commend the management for the way lunch works here. Prompt seating, and a good specials menu. For a very reasonable price you get soup, a spring roll, and an entree with rice. There are many choices but choosing your lunch is a simple task. Generally, the soup and spring roll are out almost immediately after you order, with the entree arriving just on time. Nice place, fairly clean and quiet, yummy food with no MSG. I like the noodles, veggie fried rice, and most of the entree's i've tried. Overall, thumbs up, esp. for lunch! Pros: Efficient, good value, delicious food Cons: Lacks in the ""special occasions"" department compared to some other Chinese restaurants. more

great lunch spot 10/26/2006

Great place for lunch specials and get togethers. We celebrated a friends' birthday here and the staff was very nice. The food was delicious and hot. Pros: great food Cons: parking more

LOVE this place. 10/11/2006

This is one of my favorite places in houston. They have great, fairly inexpensive lunch specials that are perfect for a quick bite with friends. They staff is so friendly (the waiter knew me and remembered my order after my third visit!) and it's not a bad atmosphere for a chinese restaurant - especially at lunch when it's more crowded. Definately worth checking out! Pros: great food and service Cons: parking can be tricky more

GREAT VALUE! 5/11/2006

This is great Chinese food for a great price! Lunch portions are filling and quite cheap! I had the garlic string beans which came with fried rice, and eggroll and wonton soup, which cost under $10 including tax and tip! There aren't many dine in places that you can get great tasting food at such a low price for lunch in Houston. I'm a big fan of the dumplings also - Pan Fried Pork Dumplings are awesome dipped in their homemade ginger sauce. I wish they would open up one in Katy - closer to home for me! Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly Service, Quick for lunch Cons: Only one Kam's! more

Good overall experience 5/3/2006

Very friendly owner and staff. Nice and dark with candles and dark wood, great for taking a client or date to. Try starting with the pan-fried pork dumplings and dip them in a mixture of red chili oil and soy sauce. For your main course, go with the Young Chow Fried Rice, add red chili oil, black pepper and soy sauce, and you're good to go! I agree with an earlier reviewer that the food isn't strongly seasoned, but I wouldn't say it's bland, either. Pros: Great service, Great ambiance Cons: Few parking spots more

Meh, Overrated 4/27/2006

The reviews got me excited, but I was let down. We got eggrolls, soup, kung poa, and lo mein. All were very bland and not really exciting whatsoever. The food was fresh and hot, and the service was very warm and welcoming though. Not bad food, just not what I crave when I want some chinese since it just doesn't have enough flavor. Pros: Service Cons: Bland Food more

Overrated 4/3/2006

Our party of 4 recently had dinner at Kam's. The prices seemed higher than other chinese restaurants we have been to recently. When the food was served the summer roll appetizer was totally tasteless with a peanut dipping sauce that tasted like diluted peanut butter. Our main courses were no better. My orange beef was so sweet I thought I was eating dessert. My wife's duck was dry and w/o flavor. The other 2 entrees were called ""blaah."" The good news was that the portions were small so that we didn't have to suffer too much. This isn't a bad restaurant but it surely isn't the jewel that the other user reviews would suggest. BTW the ladies were not impressed by the unisex bathroom. more

Chinese Food Haven :o) 12/5/2005

I've been living in Houston for 2 years and tried alot of Chinese/Vietnamese places. I went last night and ate at Kam's at the recommendation of a good friend. Needless to say, I was definitely NOT disappointed. I'm only sorry it took me this long to find a good place. Delicious food and attentive but not intrusive service. Everything that was ordered was fresh, hot and true Cantonese cuisine! more

always great! 11/19/2003

We eat here at least 2 times a week and are NEVER disappointed! The food is awesome- the pork dumplings worth the trip alone! Awesome veggie options- eggplant rocks! The prices are great- the service is always right on target ! I cant say enough good about this place! Go EAT THERE!! You'll go back again and again! Pros: location, always open!, FOOD! Cons: parking, crummy bathrooms more

The BEST Chinese Food in Houston! 3/19/2003

Kam's is the best place for Chinese food in Houston. I go there at least once a week after work or call in for a take out order for lunch. The pan-fried pork dumplings are out of this world! I recommend the Ho Fan or Ginger Beef dishes, but every dish is great. The service is quite enjoyable and prompt. more

Consistently good 3/4/2003

I eat at Kam's almost every week. They have consistently good food. I've tried many of the dishes on their menu and like almost all of them. My favorite is the Singapore Vermicelli. The service is usually pretty good, but can be a little slow if it's very crowded. Decor is nothing spectacular, but the food speaks for itself. more

Homemade flavor in a restaurant 2/21/2003

Now this is food with flavor. The service can be spotty, depending on who's on staff that day/night, but more often than not, I enjoy my time there. Definitely have the pan-fried pork dumplings and young chow fried rice. Try adding some soy sauce with red chili to each, and you will not be disappointed. Pros: Tasty, Inexpensive, Nice atmosphere Cons: Parking limited more

Best Dumplings in Houston 12/31/2002

The best dumplings in town! The make your own sauce is really tasty, a really neat way to eat! more

Fabulous Chinese Food! 9/18/2002

This is a lovely little restaurant off of Montrose. It is the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a large get together with friends. The dishes are all wonderful. I always go back for the Ho Fan dish here. It is absolutely incredible! And the pan fried pork dumplings go perfectly with the homemade ginger sauce they make if you ask for it! This place is ten times better than any Kim Son and the servers actually try to do their job. A MUST try if you're in the Houston area! Pros: Has Take Out more
