Our experiences mirror those of most other posts here...I, and my four children of various ages, came to Juro as true beginners, excluding a couple of nose-to-butt rides elsewhere...

Being a total novice around horses, I 6/2/2012

Being a total novice around horses, I can't comment on whether or not the horses were well cared for (a few other reviewers claimed they were not), though, to my untrained eye, they seemed healthy and happy enough. My trail guide, Michael, was great, very attentive and polite. My horse, Bruce, was as easy and gentle as can be. The hour and a half ride wound through woods, fields, mud, and creeks. Unlike other reviewers, I did not feel overly pressured to tip my guide, though they did make a point to tell us that tipping was appreciated and that the guides worked on tips alone. I will definitely be a returning customer. more

Horses are not properly cared for 5/9/2012

Went for my last time recently. The horses are not properly cared for and I can't ride knowing this..The place is a dump. The guides are not paid and you must tip. It's a real eye sore. more

Employees Argued over distribution of tip 7/3/2011

While waiting to ride the trail two little girls yelled at each other over a tip they relieved the previous day and who would be getting it. Mind you this was in front of about 15 customers. [ I wanted to rip a dollar in half and tell them to split that ] We made a set reservation. An hour and a half later we left. Upon walking up no one greeted our party. They wanted payment up front. Money became a reoccurring theme throughout the trip. It was literally ran by two 12 year old girls. The trail was nice, the horses were too. The entire experience just seemed impersonal. more

Different way of handling horses 1/24/2010

I had some friends in town who are not accomplished horse people as I am, but it was a beautiful day and they wanted to go on a trail ride. I was new to the area and found Juro stables online. It was a decent trail ride, and I was happy to hear many of the horses were saved from a terrible end at the slaughterhouses( basically bought at auction for real cheap, regardless it's better than dead)....but I was really appalled at their inexperience as horse people. I witnessed more unsafe practices than I cared to (horses being let to roam around fully tacked up, reins dragging and tripping them up,inexpeienced teenagers wildly swinging lunging whips at horses that very likely have a history of abuse and violence, hosing cutomers cars with water on their way out, that sort of thing sort of nonsense)...some of the employees were friendly enought, but others didnt have a clue. I grew up riding since I was a child, competing and training horses in jumping and dressage and working with abused horses and working at an equestrian center and show barn. I'm not saying I know EVERYTING, but I sure do know alot. I think they need to brush up on their knowledge of horses a bit. Just because you've been doing something for years, doesn't mean youve been doing it right. Really wished I had had a better experience here. Pros: Credit them with saving many horses from slaughterhouses Cons: Unprofessional more

Repeat customers, great experience each time! 12/4/2009

Our experiences mirror those of most other posts here...I, and my four children of various ages, came to Juro as true beginners, excluding a couple of nose-to-butt rides elsewhere. The trails are splendid and the staff welcomed us like family instead of customers. This place is authentic. There are muddy spots, the barn has a rusty tin roof, and a big campfire burns when it's cold. Be prepared to REALLY get away from pavement and into the quiet woods. Although drop-ins appear welcome, highly recommend making reservations. Pros: Outstanding for beginners and children Cons: Truly rustic - nothing fancy more

I don't have stables business, only for you 7/25/2009

I AM A medical resident just moved to TN. I am really very upset from this experience and I don't want ant one to go via this experience. they told you that you can tip the staff there if you want. and that is what we did at the end of the tour. we had 2 tour guide with us one of them was an old lady, we gave her 5 $, and all of sudden she start to yell, and talk about us with the rest of the staff. That was not professional nor friendly at all. the track not that great. my advise pay 10 $ more and enjoy a real nice day in any other stable. I don't own any stable, I just write this because I don't want any one to go though what we went through. my e.mail is doctorwassef@aol, If you need any more details about my bad experience with this stable. Pros: colse to NAS Cons: very very rude people, dirty place more

great place to get away from this hard thing we call life. 10/12/2008

juro is absolutely my favorite place to be. hands down. i started riding there (by reservation) about a year or so ago. nothing but good comes from there. except for possibly the owners, but they aren't who run the place so they doesn't really matter much. ;) all of the guides work extremely hard to make everyone happy even though sometimes that isn't possible. but have in mind if you go down there, the guides do NOT get paid. they rely on the tips from the riders so don't get offended if they ask you about a tip seeing as that's their only income at the stables. all of their horses are well-trained trail horses who are all very very sweet, yet they all have there own very different personalities. the horses are very well taken care of also. the people down there are good people, and that's all there is to it. so call em up and make a reservation today! it's only $17 for kids (1 hour) and $22 for adults (1 hour)! Pros: amazing guides, great horses, beautiful scenery, great atmosphere Cons: none! more

Extremely Rude Customer Service 9/19/2008

My daughter wanted to make a reservation for a ride. We have used this buisiness about a half a dozen times. Sara West (owner) took the reservation and was extremely rude. We have never had to us a debit card for a reseveration before. Previously, they asked that you ""promise that you will be here or give us 2 hrs notice"". I understand rules may have changed. We have also had rude service from Roger West. Our reservation times were always 5 - 15 minutes late. The only positive is Brandon as a guide. He is very good. Don't expect customer service to priority at Juro Stables. more

Rude manager 5/17/2008

The man taking money was rude and arrogant. The land was pretty, but facilities were under par. I have never ridden before, but was looking forward to an exciting, but safe ride with my girlfriend. I was very anxious for my girlfriend when the horses started running through their running field. Was too nervous to enjoy. I feel they do not encourage safety. Would not recommend especially if you have children. Pros: Trails Cons: Rude, Unsafe more

BEST TRAIL RIDING 10/8/2007

YOU WILL NOT FIND ANOTHER PLACE LIKE THIS. I HAVE MY OWN HORSES IN R.I. AND WAS VISITING NASHVILLE WITH MY MOM WHO HAS A SMALL FEAR OF HORSES. I CALLED AHEAD AND LET THE STABLE'S KNOW OUR SITUATION AND THEY ACCOMMONATED US VERRY WELL. I WAS ABLE TO CANTER AND GALLOP. OUR GUIDE MADE MY MOTHER VERY COMFORTABLE, SHE EVEN TROTTED A BIT. THEN SHE WANTED TO "" DRIVE HER HORSE AGAIN "". \r ANOTHER GOOD THING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THAT THEY ARE OPEN DURING THE WEEK. tHAT WAS NICE BECAUSE WE WERE ABLE TO RIDE BY OURSELVE'S AND OUR GUIDE. \r GOOD TIMES !!!!!!!!!!! LYNNE WHINFORD, NEW PORT,R.I. Pros: LET YOU ACTUALLY RIDE Cons: NONE, ADVISE A RESERVATION, more

Best riding I have found so far 10/5/2007

This is an interesting place, it is like stepping into the 1800's, rustic barns and fences, stone walls left over from civil war days, etc. The horses are well taken care of and they allow you to actually ride. I have been to many stables in my travels and they have all been nose to butt, single file and walk only, but at Juro Stables they picked a very good horse for me, I am an experienced rider and I was allowed to run. I took my 5 yr old beginner rider grandson with me and they took great care in giving him a very well trained horse and helped him learn to ride as they allowed me to run. I was very impressed with how well they take care of their horses and teach beginners as they ride. If you are looking for a new, fancy Kentucky Derby like place then this place is not for you, but if you like rustic, the outdoors and beautiful scenery and the chance to really ride then this IS the spot to try. I highly recommend it. Pros: great horses, great guides Cons: I have no cons, I loved it more

sad but true 6/19/2007

i love the idea of juro. i boarded my horse out there for a long time, and led trail rides as well, until my horse developed behavioral problems, such as an irrational fear of men.\r \r the place itself is not healthy for the horses. the clientele are wonderful, but it is true that the horses are overworked, and mistreated by some staff.\r \r the spca needs to investigate.\r if you are interested in riding there--and it truly is beautiful--do your homework. meet the owners. ask questions. come to your own conclusions. spend some time with the horses.\r \r please the check the horses' feet before you think about riding. so many of them have bad feet, and are in no condition to be ridden at all. more

Highly Recommended! 6/3/2007

You will be pleasantly surprised by this. We've established a tradition of riding at every chance when we travel. Frankly, when we drove up my first thought was ""uh-oh I've made a mistake here."" I've been accustomed to riding in some really nice venues in Hilton Head, etc. The barn and immediate surroundings are pretty rustic and plain. The initial contact with the ""staff"" wasn't much to write home about either. But what a great surprise and experience from that point on! Our guides were terrific, the horses were superb, and the scenery breathtaking. They will surprise you by not limiting your experience on the horses. You get the opportunity to walk, run, even jump in the ""fun field"". Special thanks to Brandon our guide and the young lady that led us through the trails. They did a wonderful job of matching horses to riders. Our group included first timers to fairly experienced, including a tiny 6 year old little girl that had the time of her life. Her horse ""Patch"" was the perfect selection for her. Thanks again for ""our best experience on horseback yet."" We will be back on our next trip to Nashville. Pros: Few limitations, great horses, scenery, friendly staff more

Great people, beautiful ride 1/11/2007

We went to JuRo on a Saturday, and, while it was busy, we didn't have to long to wait. I took along my son and two friends who had never ridden. The staff was extremely helpful, giving good, easy to follow instructions, and consistent guidance, but only when needed. The guides are knowledgable, friendly, and not at all intrusive -- and all of them obviously LOVE what they're doing! My friends felt very comfortable, and we all enjoyed a stress-free ride through the gorgeous wooded areas around the stables. It is such beautiful land that you feel like you are miles and miles away from civilization, while really only being about ten minutes from the I40 exit! $15.00 gets a whole hour, but it was well worth the $20.00 for an hour and a half -- honestly it almost felt too short! \r We saw riders with greater experience than we had enjoying a more rigorous ride and more difficult terrain, but even with our limited experience, we didn't feel as though we were on a kiddie ride. The guide took us over some ground we probably wouldn't have thought we could ride, and we ended up feeling pretty accomplished -- definitely more confident riders by the rides end. \r Children will love the environment directly around the stables -- peacocks and peahens running around, as well as the ducks, geese, chickens, and friendly dogs, all of whom live there. \r I've been back alone, and I plan on taking some other friends with me in the future! A really great experience all around! Pros: GORGEOUS! wonderfully helpful staff who love what they do! Cons: parking a little limited, but wasn't a problem either weekend I was there this past fall more

WOW!! Had the absolute best time riding here. You all have to try this. Great family activity. 1/4/2007

I've been to alot of stables that offer trail rides and JuRo is by far the best. It doesn't matter what your ability-or lack thereof - they have a horse to suit you. Most stables will just put you on a horse and begin the ride...not here! The guides really take the time to to make sure you are comfortable with what you are about to do. I felt like a better rider after my ride than when I started it. \r \r The trails are beautiful. You meander through streams, up and down hills. Many stables will not let you move out or rather pick up the pace but JuRo will. They even have a field where you can jump, run barrels, or run poles. (If your riding ability allows it) \r \r JuRo Stables is a working ranch so you get to enjoy all the other animals too!! Guineas, chickens, ducks, geese, cats, dogs, turkeys, peacocks and yes of course horses. \r \r If you never have tried horseback riding this is the place to do it. It is simply the BEST!! Pros: great outdoor family activity, anyone can do it more

This place is the best ! All around great fun, and terrific exercise too. 1/2/2007

If there is a better place to go for a wonderful trail ride, I can't imagine where it could be.\r \r Juro has the best horses (suited to the individual rider), best trails, most magnificent scenery (325 acres) and guides that actually will teach you to be a better rider. Our guide told us that his mission is to ""get us back with big smiles and better riders than when we left.\r \r He actually did just that and we had a ball !\r \r Go for a ride at Juro and forget your troubles.\r \r Yashu Pros: A great experience Cons: Can't think of any more

Highly disappointed, do NOT recommend 6/23/2006

This was NOT what I expected. What I read online made this stable out to be the best. I happen to be an experienced rider, but was taking my boyfriend (who is a beginner) there for an afternoon ride. The man taking my reservation was quite rude, but I ignored it because we wanted to ride. When we got to the barn, we were right on time but they rushed us to sign the waiver and get on the trail because the people in front of us were two hours early and had to wait on us before we could all start the ride. \r The guides, though young and maybe a bit nervous, were very friendly and chatty. The horses, on the other hand, were a different story. Yes, they ARE incredibly barn sour. You literally had to fight to keep them pointed away from the barn, and FORGET about moving out any faster than a walk! Even my newbie boyfriend was bored with the ride. Not to mention that many of the horses on the property were underweight, and their saddles did not fit. It almost made me feel guilty to get on my horse because the saddle did NOT fit her and she was obvously uncomfortable. \r \r The fee to ride was $35 per person, which seemed a little high compared to other stables in the area, and then you were expected to tip your guide because that is the only way they make their wages. I've ridden at other stables around the middle TN area for much cheaper and had WAY more fun. I expected a lot more from this stable because of what I read online, but was VERY disappointed and will not be going back. Two thumbs down for Juro stables. Pros: Nice guides, pretty scenery Cons: horrible service, uncomfortable tack (for human and horse), pricey more

An awesome experience! 2/13/2004

I haven't taken a horse ride in 18 years...but did so today with my fiance! It was an absolutely wonderful experience. The best part? They had absolutely no problems finding a horse that could handle my 330 lbs. The ride itself was excellent! I can't wait to go back! Pros: Wonderful staff!, Scenic, Value Priced more

Fantastic Time! 12/7/2003

I had a bad experience with a horse when I was younger, and had not ridden in years, so I was nervous when my family went trail riding, but the guide was so helpful and understanding and my horse, Little Dolly, was so calm and obedient! It turned out to be a great time! My husband and daughter got to run in a big field and I was content walking. We went through creeks and beautiful trails in the forest. We even saw some deer and wild turkeys! Everyone should try this! Pros: the trail guide!, beautiful scenery, great horses! Cons: none! more

Real Horseback Riding!!!! 8/15/2003

Juro is a great riding destination. They actually allow you to ride. at points you are able to sprint across a field. traverse a creek and end up taking a break on the banks of precy preist lake. the best riding stables in the area. the only questionable area would be parking but that is easy to fix. get out there and see the fine folks at JURO STABLES. Pros: Great Value, Open, Rider Friendly Cons: None that take away more
