Very Rude Management 11/8/2010

I had to return my meal because I am allergic to onions. I explained it was my fault because I didn't ask. I could not get another meal because I had to get back to work. The manager said while holding my plate "What do you want me to do with this". I said I wasn't sure what he meant and he repeated this question with more attitude. I have never had any service person let alone a manager speak to me that way. DO NOT support them financially. This could not have been the first time this man has been rude to customers and I'm sure it won't be the last. more

Great margaritas and enchilada plates 6/22/2009

This is a good place to come after work when I am needing my mexican food fix. My favorite here is the chicken enchiladas (2) with tomatillo sauce and I always ask for the charro beans, which I think are the best I have had in Austin. For 7.99 in the evening in central Austin, that is a bargain, and I leave stuffed. I like their salsa, too. I have found that if a place has good salsa and good beans, everything else is pretty good in my experience. Lots of young couples, singles, families, oldsters, this place has them all - love the mix. Another big plus is that they don't try to blast you out of your chair with their music. It's just right. You can actually talk to your date without shouting. Sorry it took me so long to find this place. Pros: Homemade tortillas; charro beans; great salsa Cons: Can't think of any. more

Read the review online - and saw the high star rating. What a mistake. 11/15/2008

My fiancee and I go onto Austin City Search to find great reco's for Friday night dinners or Saturday evening lunch. We were both in the mood for some good mexican food and ran across the recommendation saying Jorge's is in the top 3 places to eat mexican food in Austin. Well it wasn't today. We both were extremely disapointed with the food quality and quantity. Both of us got the Jorge Combo plate which had a little bit of everything - unfortunately none of it was impressive. Out of all the hundreds of mexican food restaurants I have eaten over the 32 years of being a Texan - this is definitely in the bottom 10%. Loved the atmosphere when i walked in, but the food quality was not good and the taste was very bland. Plus - very pricey for the small serving sizes of the plates. Pros: Great atmosphere for a tex mex restaurant Cons: Food is bland, sauces were not good, and over priced for the small portions. more

Great Mexican Martinis! 5/27/2008

I generally go on a Thursday for the discounted Mexican Martinis, which are great! The drinks are always good, the service is very quick, and the food is fresh and inexpensive. For a casual, cheap, relaxing meal - I definitely recommend Jorge's. So many Austin Mexican restaurants are hard to get into without a long wait and even then you feel like your server is juggling a million things at once - but this is never the case with Jorge's. I rarely have to wait to be seated, the food is very hot and fresh and well seasoned and the drinks are the best. Pros: mexican martinis, good service, prompt seating Cons: none really more

I really like Jorges. The food is super yummy and decently priced. My favorite thing is the colorful decorations and overall atmosphere. It's a funplace to go! Their Margaritas are great and on Thursdays they have half price Mexican martinis. Nice bathrooms too.... Pros: great atmoshere, great margaritas and food Cons: service can be a little on the slow side, but not awful more

WAAAYYY TO EXPENSIVE FOR THE QUALITY...I would rather have had Jack n the Box tacos @ 2 for $.99!!! 2/23/2008

I read some of the other reviews prior, but decided to give it a try anyway - YES it's too expensive for the type & quality of the food; however I don't mind the price IF the food is good. I had the barbarcoa (?) tacos & could barely swallow the one bite! Now, I may have made a mistake with this choice, BUT I do expect a good waiter/place to notice a completely uneaten plate and make an inquiry (at the least)...the waiter ignored the uneaten dish & then commented that "it's un unusual meat, but his favorite!" - I paid the $8.00 for the small portion of refried beans & boring rice! My friend had the chicken fajita tacos and said they were "very good" - another friend had the beef tacos & I tasted them (they were "ok" at best - but too expensive for ground beef tacos! The pepsi was good...but I would rather have gone through the drive-thru at Jack n the Box for the 2 tacos for $.99!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, native Austinite that grew up with the original. The new owners keep jacking up the prices. This is tex-mex people. 12.99 for a salad aint gonna fly. There is better, cheaper t-mex around the area. LOWER YOUR PRICES JORGES! Pros: Fresh food. Good Salsa. Cons: PRICES- OUCH! more

Great food, prices, and margaritas 2/7/2007

I tried Castillo Jorges a few years ago and was disappointed with both food and service. Recently though, I moved to the neighborhood and decided to re-try it in search of great tex mex. I coulnd't have been more pleasantly surprised. Pros: Great margs and food, easygoing place Cons: Busy nights= less parking, slower service more

Killer Margaritas 12/14/2006

This is the place to go in Austin for super strong and tasty Margaritas. The food is par for the course when it comes to Austin Tex-Mex: It's very good, but not phenenomenal, and not the reason to come here. The Margaritas are. There's also a crazy waitress here who is always dropping plates (after they have been used by customers-- not people's meals). This provides some good comic relief when you're drunk off of 2 Margs. I hope she hasn't been fired. more

Best Margs around 11/12/2006

Have been going here once a week for months now. Obviously I've enjoyed it. Marg's are great, and have really aggressive HH specials which scale based on the hour. 5-6pm is the best. great patio. I mostly enjoy the true TexMex items here, as some of the meat dishes I've had here include meat that's not as 'lean as I'd like it". The El Gringo burritos are great, and make sure you have an available notch on your belt. service is good in general. more

Unique Recipes and Awesome Ambiance 10/14/2006

This Tex-Mex restaurant, with a spacious patio and inside dining area, uses unique recipes obtained from two regions in Texas the Permian Basin and Panhandle. From the Chili con Queso, to the enchiladas with two eggs on top, to their pumpkin flan -- the customer service and experience was incredible. They are open for Sunday Brunch using a different menu that amazed me and my family. Pros: Menu simliar to Taco Garcias in Amarillo and Jorges in Midland/Odessa Cons: Chili con Queso needs to be more like the traditional Veloz recipe more

Austin's Best Tex-Mex 6/30/2006

Most important, the food is GREAT! By far my favorite Tex-Mex in Austin. We had burritos, enchaladas, and queso, and it was all very good. The margaritas were very tasty (and pretty strong too)! Throw in some good happy hour specials and super friendly service, you have to check this place out. I'll be back for sure. Pros: Food, Margaritas, Service more

You haven't had Tex-Mex in Austin until you go to Jorge's. The freshest and tastiest in this area. Enchiladas the way they are supposed to be made and tortillas made by hand per order. Margritas are so tasty and smooth you don't realize thier potency until you stand up! Definately a true gem!! Pros: Spacious Patio, T.V.'s, Great parking more

Best margaritas in town - bar none! Patron Silver in their "house" margaritas. They don't skimp on anything here. Be careful because these bad boys will sneak up on you in a hurry, two is about all you'll need for the night. Also try the nachos. They are excellent as well. Pros: Convenient, Not overly crowded, everyone welcomed more

Cheese Enchiladas are fantastic- they are served stacked style- first the beans, then the enchiladas and then covered in queso. sooo good. Great happy hour specials, too! more
