No show 5/25/2015

Rich Downey from John Beal came out to our house 3 weeks ago to let us know if we had any hail damage from the recent hail storm in April. He let me know to call my insurance company to schedule an appointment with an adjuster right away and promised he would be present. He said if he had another appointment scheduled unless it was with another insurance adjuster he would even move it. I made the appointment for May 25th which was the insurance adjusters first available appointment. I immediately called Rich back to see if he was available. He told me he was and that he didn't have anything else scheduled that day. Well May 25th comes. My insurance adjuster shows up and Rich does not. He didn't even bother to call me. His response was "it is a Holiday weekend, I am out of town!" he than proceeds to make up some excuse about a dog. I don't really care for excuses. There is no excuse for saying it is a holiday weekend and you are out of town than making up some lame excuse without even calling to let your customer know. He even promised to reschedule other appointments if needed to be here. more

Great First Experience 4/17/2013

Called John Beal to check out a small leak in my roof. Rich Downey was my advisor, and I couldn't be more pleased. First of all, Rich showed up right on time, which tells me a lot in itself. He was very courteous, knowledgeable, and informative. He was extremely thorough, trying to find the source of the leak, which wasn't easy in this case. He took his time explaining everything to me to make sure I understood. Overall, Rich did a great job, making my first experience with John Beal a positive one. I'll surely be calling John Beal for my follow-on work. more

Emergency crew 4/11/2013

I just wanted to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU for coming out so quickly after the storm last night. Mark and Zach came out to do an emergency repair shortly after the tornado passed our area. I was especially impressed over the fact that they has to drive though the hardest hit areas to get here and yet they still arrived promptly and handled the job efficiently despite the challenging circumstances. Thank you for your professionalism, promptness, and assistance! more

Worst roofing company EVER! 3/8/2013

John Beal replaced my roof and gutters at the beginning of August 2012 and did a horrible job. The flashing around the chimney was put on at a crazy angle, they reused all of my flashing despite the fact that my insurance company paid for all new (hmmm... insurance fraud?) and they broke 2 of my windows. After replacing the gutterboard on two sides of the house, they left it unwrapped, exposed to the elements for SIX MONTHS. My kitchen window was boarded up for SEVEN MONTHS (and even getting them to come board up the window turned into a huge hassle). I placed hundreds of calls to supervisors, and supervisors' supervisors and so on. I even had to call a lawyer because I received notice that one of their suppliers was attempting to put a lien on my house. It took them almost EIGHT months to complete the work. I did my homework when I hired them - at the time they had an A+ rating at the Better Business Bureau. By the end of the year? An F. That alone should tell you all that you need to know about this company. But in case you need a little bit more, here it is in a nutshell: their workmanship is substandard, their customer service is non-existent, the company is clearly on the verge of going under and honestly, the fact that they are still in business defies logic. This has been the single worst experience I've EVER had with a contractor. more

Guy from John Beal refused to give bid until I revealed exact amount my insurance company would pay, and then accused me of not understanding how the process works. Happily, I found two reputable companies who were willing to give me honest bids for a new roof without demanding to know what my insurance company was paying. WHY should it matter? more

Never again 10/4/2012

Here is my history with this sham of a company. 2010 They "fixed" my roof. Not even two years later it needs repairs again June 1, 2012 a deposit was made to you to come and make repairs again. A repairman named J** was supposed to come out and make repairs. J** had an accident and was not able to come. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS August 30, 2012 I called J** to find out what was taking so long and that is when I found out about his injury. J** apologized and said he would call the next week to schedule. He never called September 11, 2012 at 12:50 I called J** and left a message. At 1:00 that same day I called John Beal's main line. Was transfered to the "Production manager". No Answer, left message. Never received a call back! Called again on September 12, 2012. Was told the QA manager would call me back. NO CALL. Sept 17 i called and was assigned to a new repair man named V****** Sept 19 V****** called to say he would be by at the end of the week. which was friday sept 21. If not he would be back out the next week to fix. Nothing. Sept 26th, I get a call from John Beal with questions about my paperwork. Saying that it looks like the work was done in 2010 (which it was and not you need to FIX IT AGAIN). I call back but left a message and told the guy I needed to speak with was in a meeting and would call me back in five minutes. NEVER CALLED ME BACK. Now it is October 4th, 2012. Four months and four days since I cut a check for the deposit. DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! more


DONT hire john beal every aspect of this situation has been a nitemare i only hope this saves someone from making the same mistake i made more

Horrible experience... and they haven't even started. 6/6/2012

Made an appointment for 2PM today. Their tech "Jason" calls at 11AM to tell me he's right down the street, wants to know if he can come then. I say "No, we made the appointment at 2PM because that's what worked best for us, please come then". No one was home at my house anyway. So then the tech says (get this): "Well, I've got 3 hours of downtime between now and then, during which time I'm going out to O'Fallon. Since it's so far I won't be able to get back down there today." Now, having worked similar jobs myself I know how it is having some downtime to kill... you kill it, and then you DRIVE TO YOUR APPOINTMENT.. EVEN IF IT'S A BIT OF A DRIVE. What a cop out.. it really amazes me that there are poeple out there who think this is an acceptable response. I DO NOT recommend John Beal unless you are looking for half-ass, lazy copouts. more

Very, very bad customer service & quality of work 5/30/2012

The customer service & quality of work is horrible. We had some repair work done, but the roof still leaked after the work. 3 months later they sent out another "technician", he told us that the shingles were laid out wrong. He returned twice to fix the problem, but did not have the right shingles either time. I have not heard from the repair man in over 6 months. Everytime I call I am told; "don't worry, I am going to come out and fix it you do not have to call me back". This whole process has been 11 months long, and I still do not have a fixed roof for a problem that they told me they did wrong. I wonder who is responsible for the water damage in my home? more

A Complete Nightmare 3/21/2012

Clearly the worst company of any type I've ever dealt with. Inferior product, incompetent workers, a failed roof that after 3 years I have no resolution. The are not dependable, schedule times to come out and don't show up after I've made plans to take off work. Left all their mess, said they would come back to clean it up and never did. They do not stand behind their product or workmanship...when it fails they send you another overpriced bid to fix what they did wrong! Meanwhile I have water damage in the house that needs repair. I am also sick of those commercials that run at the bottom of the TV everytime there are severe weather threats...just another grim reminder of the terribly expensive and horrible experience I had. more

I wish I sould have been smart enough to read the reviews on this company before I decided to use them. The past two people I was working with no longer work for the company. My roof was put on in October. The siding was put on in March. Window screens are still not on. I was told my satellite dish would not be re-installed by John Beal, and it was - incorrectly. I've had to call the satellite company to fix it and now have holes in my siding since it was installed improperly. I called today to tell of my concern of the holes in the siding. Spoke to Brian Alcorn-Production Manager and he was a real treat! Terrible customer service and seemed put off to be talking to me. He said they'd get someone out Tuesday - in a hurried tone to get me off the phone and didn't care to hear about my other issues. I want to be RID of this company. I felt that since the advertisements were all over the news channels this would be a great company - you cannot always judge a book by it's cover. Please, do not use them, you will be sorry! more

Horrible company 2/28/2012

Hired John Beal to fix a leaking chimney that the salesman (Joe Schad) said would be no problem. After $3000 worth of repairs that weren't needed, the chimney leaks worse than it did before. Now they are refusing to take my calls or return calls. There will be litigation for this mess. more

Affordable Roofing Company 2/9/2012

I was amazed at the real value at which John Beal provided. They used more nails than the other company and I had a supervisor on location the entire time. I am not sure why I see the negative reviews on here, I had no problems at all with this outfit. Very pleased ~ Thank you to the staff at John Beal! more
