Jerusalem Restaurant

I just got out of lunch from New Jerusalem. Everyone raved about this restaurant so I thought I would give it a try with my daughter as a treat. We ordered from the menu that I thought was priced well. $5.50 for a falafel, $5.50 for a beef and lamb gyro and .50 extra for fries etc., which I had to inquire about from the waitress. We sat and waited and waited and waited as everyone else was served. After about 30 minutes of being completely ignored (should have walked out at this point). I finally had to get up and inquire about our order. One of the other waitresses decides to finally comes by after noticing I was throughly annoyed. Our order finally arrived after 35 minutes. I was too hungry at this point to even notice that our order was wrong!! We ate and ignored again for the check and a box which I had to inquire about. Yes, the bill was about 22 bucks! A charge for a wrong order!!! No apologies, no compensation for the worst service I have experienced in recent history. If you want really bad service, and an unexpected bill come to New Jerusalem. Instead of this being a wonderful experience for me and my daughter, it was one of the worst! more

After hearing a raving review about Jerusalem Restaurant from a friend, we decided to eat there for dinner tonight. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the service and food quality. The food: Our party of four shared stuffed grape leaves and hummus for the appetizer. The grape leaves were pretty good as was the hummus, but the pita bread was cold and somewhat stale. My chicken gyro entree provided me with tasty chicken, but the yellow rice side (served with each entree) was disappointingly dry. The service: The poor service was much more dissatisfying than the dry rice and cold pita bread. The waiter never came to our table unless we called him over--we almost felt like a nuisance just making our order. Then, to top the dinner off, we noticed when we got the bill that the teaspoon size tzatziki sauce containers cost us 50 cents a pop. They were so small we kept asking for more of the mini-containers, so when the bill came it added about $6 to the total. I signaled to the waiter to come over. When he did I asked where on the menu did they mention the 50 cent charge for sauce. He looked at me with a blank stare (even though this particular man had flawless English). I tried again saying, ""We did not see the 50 cent charge noted anywhere on your menu"" So, he just said, ""OK"" I couldn't believe his lack of response. I then said, ""Well, it would be nice if you told someone next time about this charge because we would not have asked for so much sauce."" He again said, ""OK"" The $6 is not a big deal, but what bothered us was his complete lack of customer service. more

After reading so many good reviews, my daughter finally talked me into going to Jerusalem. What can I say about this place, except for the food was awful and the place was very very dirty. It looked liked this place has not been cleaned since it was first opened. We also had the unfortuniate experience of eating inside. It was about 80 degress outside but it had to be atleast 100 degress inside. Along with the heat there were flies everywhere, you probably would have experienced less flies sitting next to the outside trash can. oh sweet jesus, the lamb here is TO DIE FOR. So its a little small and can get crowded. I like it. Adds to the experience. I know the family that owns the place and I do my best to support the local mom & pops in denver. Its worth your time and money for sure. tru the Kulage dessert and the hummos & cucumber salad are good too. Vegitarians: this is your spot.. hitt it up cuz the falafel is amazing too. Former DU kid here and I used to love this place. Yes its a sore to the eye if you sit down and dine but the food always came out great. Having moved back to Denver I started going in again and don't know if the management changed but it just ain't the same. more

Warning!!! This was the worst eating experience ever. If your going to place an order make sure you've blocked off some significant waiting time. Also, don't expect the food to be warm :) Basically it is just bad! Spend your money elsewhere. more

Every year I see reviews rating this as ""The Best Late Night Eats"" and ""The Best Middle Eastern Food"" and want to scream!!! Yes it is nice to have an option other than Taco Bell for the post bar closing time, but this is not ""THE BEST"" at anything unless you like abuse (both to your stomach and your ego). The food while passable, is hardly good: the pita is usually stale no matter what time of day, the hummus nasty and the food is either overcooked or tepid, and the orders are rarely correct. Then we get to the sevice, on a good day it is cold and on a bad it is downright abusive: I have seen the servers yelled at by co-workers to the point that they cried and I have had people in my party refused service because they are Jewish and seen others turned away because they are black. In other words, if it is 2:30 am and you are white living in DU you will at least get served (but what you will be served is anyone's guess), otherwise head over to Colorado Blvd for better Middle Eastern Food, or up to Golden to Ali Baba's for the best. I decided to stop by the Jerusalem Restaurant today on my way home from work for a take out order. The food as always was average but the service is less then desirable. It seems as if there are always new servers who could care less about the customers sitting in the restaurant. Sometimes I get the impression that they are bothered by the patrons sitting in their establishment. I understand that Jerusalem offers a discount meal to the students of DU but they really need to improve on the customer service. If you?re looking for a quick late night meal then Jerusalem is the place for you, otherwise take your business somewhere else. The bottom line is these people have made a lot of money over the years and they could care less if anyone ever eats there again. Anyone who rates this restaurant higher than average has unfortunately never experienced real Middle Eastern cuisine or hospitality. I love this restaurant because its within my budget and they are the only restaurant I've been to that makes a chicken gyros like they do. I'm not into their hommos, but love their baba ghanouj and falafel. Its a great place and the food is consistent. Pros: really good food Cons: service sometimes inattentive, cramped. space. more

If you have been to the middle east before this is the resteraunt for you! The food is pretty darn close the the resteraunts you would find in the Red Light district of Amsterdam, or the party town of Eindhoven, Holland. After spending hours in the coffeshops or the bars and clubs of Holland there are many resterants like as this one in Denver. It has a wide aray of differnt quizines from Isreael, Egypt, Turkey, and Greece. Although people have complained about the cleanliness of this place, it is pretty darn clean compared with resteraunts of the same kind in the countries that I mensioned above. I highly recommend they gyros plate, and the baklava. Watch out for drunken DU Hockey players, and Denver Broncos late at night they like to start fights out side of the resteraunt. Jerusalem has very excellent cuisine with decent atmosphere. My only gripe is that the restaurant is small and kind of dirty. Watch out for drunk DU students. Overall an excellent dining experience. My brother-in-law suggested your restaurant. We had to be elsewhere by 7 p.m. We arrived before 6 p.m. I ordered soup and kallayah. I didn't care for the soup but my son did, so he finished mine. The others got and ate their entrees while mine was forgotten. By then, it was almost 7 and I left having had no supper and only an insincere apology. I've been going to Jerusalem for years for take out and I hit the wall last Tuesday when for the zillionth time, I got home and my order was wrong or incomplete. The staff are friendly, the food is excellent, but if you're not eating in (which leaves something to be desired in the atmosphere department), don't eat at all. Jerusalem keeps winning 'Best Of Take Out' awards, and my contention is that a restaurant in that category should be able to get the order right!!! This place made me start liking falafel. The service is absolutely horrible, but it seems worth it. Perhaps more take out is in my future, though, after today. Their fatoush is okay, but a lovely contrast to the falafel. The dinner plates are gigantic and the sandwiches are a little small--I suggest sharing appetizers if you're staying there. Having read the other reviews, each says something true about Jerusalem. If you are hungry in the wee hours of the night, it's fantastic! It's so different from everything else around campus. Also, you definately get your money's worth. Lots of food for Little cash. It is true that the wait staff can be less the attentive and sometimes, dare i say it rude, does it really matter? I think not. I tell everyone i know that they should go to Jerusalem, once at least. To me the best part about Jerusalem is the people watching. There is nothing better than watching drunk 19 year old stumbling around and pigging out on highly satisfying food at 2:30 in the morning. It is not an upscale restaurant, and crowd mostly consists of local students. It is opened all night, food is delicious, but not if you are health freak. And you can meet intelligent people, and have an actual conversation! more

I used to be a big fan of this place up until a year ago when my 8yr old son and i witnessed the manager screaming at a customer in the middle of the restaurant. She was upset with her order and he refused to comp her meal - not only he was he disrespectful to her he let 3 of his employess join in the bashing. I will never go back more

Jerusalem is a winner. Two people eat for under $20, without having to consume a pile of grease (and feel sick afterwards). I've never tried anything there that I didn't like. My personal favorite is the gyros sandwich - Yum! If you're on a real budget, try the yoghurt salad. more
