Unpretentious, Affordable Gourmet Food! 9/2/2010

Jasper's is one of my favorite restaurants in the area, and I've eaten there multiple times.\r \r The Maytag Blue Cheese Potato Chips are dangerously addictive, and I apprecate the ""backyard gourmet"" concept with mostly simpler entrees given a mild gourmet twist. Peach barbeque pork chops! Rotisserie Free Range Lemon Chicken! I almost always get the Jasper's Greens salad, and my favorite entree is Salmon with creamy marscarpone polenta. I love the bourbon creamed corn as side dish!\r \r I confess, I don't like the jazzed-up Mac-n-cheese, though. Just does not taste all that good. Maybe it's the ham in it.\r \r I've taken my mother here to brunch once or twice, and I love the crabcake benedict on those days!\r \r Regarding some other reviewer's complaints about portion size: I actually appreciate the portions here! Texas as a whole is terrible about restaurant plates with far too much food -- Jasper's plates are reasonably-sized for those of us who do not want to join the growing obese population. \r \r And, the ""mini"" desserts allow one to have dessert very cheaply, or to get a little trio of desserts.\r \r Finally, I've never ever experienced bad service here! The decor is tastefully modern, sophisticated, and calm. \r \r Jasper's hits it for me on all points. more

Great food and atmosphere 2/9/2010

I often find myself here after work for drinks and appetizers after work. Great place to visit with friends and co-workers. And certainly, the dinners are great too! Pros: Consistent more

Not the best food in Dallas 1/7/2009

New Years Eve. $80 price fixe menu. For reference. the last few restaurants we've dined at were The Mercury, Penne Pemodoro, La Duni & Del Friscos. We're not dining virgins nor are we New Year's Eve Price Fixe virgins.\r \r We ordered some of the fantastic Gouda/Ham/Mac n Cheese (additional cost as it wasn't on the price fixe menu). Great. 1st course salad OK. BTW, failed to mention we asked for bread&butter when we were seated. Second course, a delicious Chicken Masa soup that barely covered the soup bowl bottom. Hmmm. \r \r Champagne/Cranberry Granita to clear the palate. OK as well. Where's the bread? Waiter says it got sent to another table. He comps us some Foccacia bread. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. A half loaf of undistinguised french bread w/greasy mushrooms covered in melted Mozzarella. Doesn't remotely resemble a decent Foccacia.\r \r Entree arrived. Laughable. I ordered the Kilman Smoked Brisket over black bean cassoulet. Two golf ball sized pieces of ""meat"". One of the b@lls was pure fat. I sent it back. 5 minutes later the plate comes out with the glob of fat removed and now only 1 GOLF BALL SIZED piece of meat on the plate. Not wanting to hold up dinner >EVEN MORE< I accepted this with a complaint to the waiter. Yummy but only 4 freekin bites! Serving sizes for the other entrees ordered was good\r \r Desert was cheesecake. Again, a laughably small golf ball sized miniature. Two or three bites and gone. \r \r For a New Year's Eve gathering like this, I don't expect a lb. of meat, an appetizer as big as Fort Worth & a dessert that you need a fork lift to get from the table to yer mouth (lemon Daubagge cake at Del Friscos comes to mind, ummmmm goooood). But I don't expect golf ball sized servings either. \r \r Verdict? We'll never go back. Too many excellent alternatives.\r -1* for service lapse on bread and the ""Foccacia"" substitute.\r -1* for the miniature entree\r -1* for the miniature cheesecake. more

Great food 2/5/2008

The food at Jaspers is definitely worth the visit. I love their burgers-- I know it sounds crazy to order a burger at such a nice place but they are fantastic. They are expensive for hamburgers but I am telling you they are so worth it. They have one with jack daniel marinated onions on top. I have been to Jasper's several times and I have never had a problem with the service. However, I have always been at lunch time. Perhaps their night time service is worse. Please disregard these negative reviews at least once to try the food. Everything I have ever tasted is wonderful. And the atmosphere is great and really trendy. The portions are large also. Pros: great food, ambience more

Excellent food! 10/30/2007

I was a little wary of trying this place because I?d heard that the service was somewhat lacking, but several people I know kept going on and on about how great the food was, so I decided it was worth the risk. My friend and I had a reservation for 8:15 on Friday, and arrived about 5 minutes early. The hostess was extremely rude and informed us that we were early and would have to wait for about ?15 to 20 minutes?. So of course I was thinking to myself, ?so far this is not looking good.? We decided to just wait in the entry way rather than fight the crowd at the bar, so we stood there and watched the hostesses seat several people who walked in after us (maybe they had earlier reservations? I don?t know). My friend said that the hostess kept giving me dirty looks when I wasn?t looking at her, so he was getting pretty irritated. Finally, at about 8:30 a gentleman whom I?m assuming is the manager approached us and apologized profusely for our wait. He then escorted us back to a lovely table by the fireplace and told us to let him know if there was anything he could do to make our meal more enjoyable. This really impressed me because it appeared that he just sensed that we weren?t happy; we never actually complained. Our waiter arrived and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He helped us select an appetizer and wine, and returned very quickly with both. Throughout the meal, he was incredibly attentive. The food ? all of it ? was incredible! We started with the calamari, which was absolutely perfect. The menu is really varied and very creative. I had the Jasper?s Green salad and the peach pork tenderloin with baked potato salad. I wasn?t nearly able to finish everything, but I wish that I could have because it was wonderful. I?d definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. Just be prepared to deal with some attitude from the girls at the front. Besides that, it was a great experience and I will certainly be going back! Pros: Creative menu, excellent food Cons: Rude hostesses more

Amazing Food - Awful service 7/27/2007

If you can overlook inattentive and forgetful wait staff this is one of the best places I have eaten at since moving here.\r \r We were seated and not visited for drink orders for 10, yes 10 minutes. After ordering drinks and taking our appetizer order, our waiter came back with only one drink saying he forgot what my wife ordered. Drinks came, Then entrees... wait a minute, what happened to our appetizer? Apparently, that item was forgotten as well. Not sure why some places just refuse to write things down, remembering my order without writing it down is not that impressive in the first place; the chance that you have in forgetting my order results in reviews like this.\r \r Finally, once all of our food came, we were in heaven. Portions are just right and the bleu cheese potato chips were amazing. Great steak as well. \r \r I'll definitely come back for the food but maybe repeat my order a couple of times and order a drink at the bar before I'm seated. Pros: Every dish we had tasted great! Cons: Attrocious Service more

Great Food, Some of the Worst Service in Dallas/Plano 1/2/2007

I think I've visited this place for the last time. I keep coming back for the food, but my last service experience was just the last of a string of bad ones. I'll explain the most recent experience, but it could be copied (with a few exceptions) for my last five visits: over 40 minutes late with a table for which we had a reservation, 15 minutes after we were seated before our waitress visited us, selected a bottle of wine and had that almost completely finished before our salads arrived over 30 minutes after we ordered, there for new years eve (our waitress didn't have time to get us any party favors prior to midnight), notification that one of our guests second course was no longer available 20 minutes after it was ordered, ordered another bottle of wine which was forgotten until we reminded her as our entrees showed up, entrees finally served about and hour and forty-five minutes into ""dinner,"" we asked them to pack up the desserts since the restaurant was filled with tables with chairs atop them well before we finished our entrees, absolutely ridiculous. We had dinner reservations at 10:15 and didn't get out of the restaurant until 1:20am...skipping dessert. It was not our waitresses fault; management had her helping us and a private party of over fifteen people. Like I said, great food, but for my money it is no longer worth it. We have given them too many chances. Keep the kitchen, please get new managers for the front. Pros: The food is great, the decor is magical Cons: Management can't manage their staff or customers, generally poor experience overshadows the food more

Lives up to the hype! 11/21/2004

I have eaten at a variety of nice restaurants in both Dallas and across the U.S. Many of them have so much hype that by the time you actually go there, you are let down. Not with Jasper's. Jasper's lives up to that hype. The service was impeccable and the decor of the restaurant was very cool (i.e. eloquent design inside the restaurant-especially the restrooms!). The food is what I mostly based my review off of and it was awesome. I had the ""Sink Salad,"" the pan seared mahi mahi with cherry tomato butter (YUM!) and portobello whippers (MORE YUM!), and for dessert, I had their ""S'More with homemade peanut butter ice cream."" SO DELICIOUS. All of it was absolutely perfect. Jasper's is pricey, but for a special occasion, definitely worth it. Pros: Great food, Nice decor, Good wine list more
