Best Indian Food & Restaurant In Town 3/31/2010

I have been eating here since the mid 90's when it was at it's previous location. I have had every item on the menu multiple times. I have eaten at every other decent Indian restaurant in town. Some are close but none compare in consistency and quality or atmosphere. I've recommended it anyone I know looking for Indian food and will continue to do so as long as they are in business. The owner goes out of his way to make personal connections with everyone who comes in. There are some other nasty post on Citysearch about him and the restaurant that are obviously from angry or disgruntled people. It's sad to see others try to knock someone down when I know how untrue the statements are. These are cowards that should be looking to resolve their issues in person vs. cowering behind a computer and trying to ruin someone's reputation and business with their keyboard. Can't say enough good things about the restaurant. Pros: Great food, service and atmosphere more

There exist much better options among Indian Restaurants 10/6/2009

Have tried this restaurant a few time over the years because other recommended it. My only suggestions being - there are better Indian restaurants in town - eg Taj Palace, Bay Leaf, Udipi among others. Pros: they serve food Cons: quality of food more

Excellent Indian food 3/4/2009

This place is great, takeout is excellent. I highly recommend the platters, both the vegetarian and non. The Navrattan Khorma is divine. more

Still bad 9/28/2008

Because of the location, we make the mistake of giving this restaurant ""one more try"" at least once every 6 months. The meat is always dry. The chicken looks and tastes like it was purchased in pre-cooked packaging. Considering the high prices that they charge, you would think that everything would be made fresh. Half the time, we don't see the ingredients that are listed on the menu in the actual dish that is served. We won't be fooled again by the convenient location and will make the extra trek to eat at a good Indian restaurant. Pros: Close to our home Cons: The food more

Bad excuse for indian food 7/23/2008

My boyfriend and I eat a lot of indian food, at LEAST once a week. This place stinks. Let's start with the good things. The service was good. The hostess and servers seemed pretty nice. The restaurant seemed classy, but is that really needed with an indian restaurant? For the drinkers, there is also a pro-looking bar there. Pros: everything Cons: service more

Buffet is a Bust 10/9/2007

Food is one of those things I won't think twice over spending large amounts of money on it, so long as it's good. Unfortunately Indian Oven's buffet + Mango Juice wasn't worth the $14 bill and tip. For me, a buffet consists of a wide selection of the restaurant's style and ethnic taste and should be a focus for the owner. Instead, the buffet appears to be an after-thought, tucked away in the corner with only 3 curry dishes and some chicken & rice, all of a similar bland palate leaving those desiring spice and flavor wanting more. Pros: decent atmosphere Cons: everything else, mango juice came in a bottle more

Worst excuse for Indian food ever!!! 9/10/2007

I travel alot and frequently seek out Indian 'cause it's one of my all time favorites. This was the worst I've ever had: 1. Papadum (grattis) was stale (soft). It's supposed to be crispy and was not served with a plum sauce which is traditional. Veg samosa was dry and basically stuffed with 99% potato, and not spicy at all. Lastly, the Murg Makhani was horrendous. The sauce tasted like a can of Texas Pete's Chili sauce. Very vinegary and salty (uck!!!). And the ""tandoori"" chicken that was served in the dish was cubed and dry. I asked for the sauce to be ""medium"" hot. Waitress warned me that it would have a definite kick. Well, there wasn't even the SLIGHTEST hint of hotness in this ""medium"" hot dish. This wasn't even what could be considered ""mild"". And cubed chicken?? Come on. That's the worst possible food presentation... The only positives were the attentive staff, Kingfisher beer and the basmati rice!! That's worth 1 star. Pros: Service Cons: Food more

Indian Indigestian!!! 6/4/2007

I came here with my family for a birthday celebration. It was the worst. Since it was a Sunday night, I have the feeling that they served us leftovers. The food was crusty, cold and simply gross. Normally I would be upset by the small portions, but thank god the portions were small, otherwise the heartburn would have been much worse. I ate only because I was starving. more

You're better off at the McDonald's down the street 10/22/2006

What a disapointment...where do I start? The decor is not very fitting for an Indian restaurant and makes the place look and feel more like a Chipotle. We ordered the appetizer but it took forever to get this to us. The waitress explained that our order ""got lost in the shuffle"". We ordered the Tandoori Combo Platter, which was a plate full of Tandoori Chicken and Shrimp. It was ok, but not like the description at all. The food was so dry that we had to order a plate of dal makhani because we needed something with gravy. What a mistake!!! The dal makhani tasted horrible--more like old, watered-down, lentil soup. (I'm Indian, i've been eating this food since i was born and have never tasted dal makhani so bad). As if this wasn't bad enough, the restaurant charges $1.50 for a side of ""Mango pickle"". This is a standard side dish that should come with every Indian meal (we also had to ask for some lemon, which should also come with the chicken). As a comparison, this would be like Taco Bell charging for its hot sauce. Ridiculous. So all in all...bad decor, bad food, bad service, and overpriced. I'd stay away. Pros: Didn't have to wait for a seat Cons: Food, service, price. more

Hot but not too Hot 5/20/2006

My wife and I love Indian cuisine and Indian Oven did not disappoint. I actually lowered my standards upon entering the place because it did not feel like normal Indian restaurants. I am use to seeing an all-Indian staff which this place did not have. At first, I wasn't expecting too much but I was very impressed with the food. The Samosas were some of the best I have had in the Columbus area. I ordered Lamb Spinach and my wife ordered Mughal Biriyani which left both of us happy with our order. I ordered my dish, hot, which was against the advice of the waitress but it was about perfect. Not too spicy where I have to drink water after every bite but it was spicy enough to leave a desire for ice cream to curb the feeling on my lips and tongue. Pros: Parking, Food, Not Crowded Cons: Price more

Absolutely, excellent Indian Cuisine! 12/6/2005

My wife and I went to the Indian Oven for the first time for dinner last night. The ambience was bright and cheery, and very upbeat. The service was impeccable. The food was very authentic, presented very well (in a rather short order to be exact), and the extremely good. The overall experience was outstanding. Everyone who enjoys good Indian cuisine should definitely give the Indian Oven a try. Pros: Very Good Service, Excellent Food, Pleasing Ambience Cons: Parking in Rear more

Hear it from an indian -- terrible 6/7/2005

I eat indian food EVERY day in NYC. Let me tell you, this isn't indian food. I ordered a dish that was to include spinach or mustard greens in it, that was to be the main ingredient, along with indian cheese. I wasnt even sure if they put the mustard greens in it. I expected it to be green in color, but it was red--VERY strange and totally different from the norm. I think the cheese was improperly prepared, probably not properly cooked. I asked for the dish to be spicy, because I can handle alot of spice. They made it spicy to the extent where I couldn't even taste the food. Sure, I ate it all, but that level of spice just over powered the food, but perhaps that was okay since in actuality, maybe it covered up the real flavor of the food, which was pretty tasteless. Pros: nice decor Cons: bad food, so-so service, expensive more

Great atmosphere, food not as great 4/13/2005

I have been here numerous times, because I love Indian, I am new to Columbus and we live really close to this place. The service varies, when I have noticed the service is better when dressed in a dressy casual attire. I don't like the fact that I ordered the vegetarian platter and needed more rice and they charged me for that. Sometimes the spices seem ""off"" like it is just super hot without the savory taste in indian dishes. Now I have found other Indian restaraunts I prefer and will probably not be back. Pros: nice decor, clean, great rice Cons: not so good service, medium quality food more

Simply the best Indian in town. 12/21/2004

My wife and I have ordered takeout from here more often than I can remember... dining there has been wonderful, too. While the price may seem a bit higher than others, the portions and quality make up the difference. The atmosphere is great and service is always terrific. If you like Indian... this is a must try. Pros: great food, great service, great atmosphere Cons: , location more

The Best!!!!!! 11/10/2004

It is one of the best places I have been too. It is very unique with amazing food. The owner makes you feel at home. They have great service. It is different than your avgerage Indian restaurant. more

It's...okaaay.... 10/6/2004

We've dined here several times and I think that the owner has done a good job of tapping into ""neauvou"" indian cuisine: not real indian, poor integration of spices, small portions and relatively overpriced. While we enjoy fine restaurants, I am not overly impressed by this establishment or believe that it is worth the price. The ambience is, indeed, nice and it's nice to have a full bar, but again, not enough to compensate for the very average cooking. This is the first indian place that I thought was very bland and the first time I've ever been served pita bread, which was poorly attempted to be passed as roti.... Pros: Nice environment Cons: , Pita bread as roti!, Not worth price more
