Best

This crew is just fantastic. My boyfriend and I have been back twice now and laughed just as hard each time. Improv Asylum is good if you're looking for something different to do ...

Worst

We really enjoyed the show, but we were herded away from the bar right when we arrived. Be sure to get there early so you can at least have one beer. FYI, there are no waitresse...

If money is no object 3/12/2009

If you have it to spend then go ahead but if times are tough and you want to have fun that wont break your pocket then go somewhere else. Tickets are priced between $16 and $22 per person. more

Really, truly terrible and unfunny 11/30/2008

Went with two friends, we all hated it. We did not laughed a single time. The positive reviews must be fakes!!!\r more

This place is very over rated in all ways. 9/26/2008

I can't believe anyone really enjoyed this childish show. A couple of the actors were great but as a group it is nothing like the Improv in Cambridge club. To much money for way to little fun. Cons: Show and parking more

Childish and overpriced 9/12/2008

Horrible time all around. The actors had a better time than the audience. The wait staff were rude and we felt like we were a pain when we signaled for a drink and had to wait 15 minutes. more

Not that funny 10/24/2007

The waitress is to pushy. The worried more about selling drinks than the show. I'll pass next time. Some people were yelling and ruining the show. Some other people that had been there before said that happened last time too. Certainly not like the TV Show Who's Line Is It Anyway "" at all. more

Definitely Interactive 10/28/2006

Audience participation fuels the comedy, fair share of hecklers as mentioned in others reviews, but that's probably because they are really pushy about drinks. I'm from NYC and even the comedy clubs here don't push alcohol on you as much as this place did. Not sure I'd rush to go back, but I had a nice time with my group there. Pros: The comedy is fresh because audience participation makes it different each time Cons: They are annoyingly pushy about drinks/alcohol more

Hilarious! 9/7/2006

This crew is just fantastic. My boyfriend and I have been back twice now and laughed just as hard each time. Improv Asylum is good if you're looking for something different to do in Boston. It might not be for everyone but just keep an open mind and you'll have a good time. Pros: Oh the talent... Cons: Other drunk audience members who sometimes interrupt. more

Horrible Night 4/25/2006

Went to the asylum to release some stress from a day of studying...which turned out to add to the problem. In my days of being of age, I was refused service at the bar and even had my license confiscated. The show was particularly poor & was rarely funny, which was an opinion that me and my group of 4 all shared. Furthermore, it was even worse considering the row of sloppy drunks in front and behind me, who felt it was necessary to yell obscenities during the performance, not in between during the crowd input phase. Even worse, they were still being served drinks despite their raucous behavior. I want my money back. more

I just didn't laugh that much. 2/26/2006

Nice try but it fell short. With the exception of a few skits, improv or otherwise, I just didn't find myself laughing all that much. It's a cheap evening out which is about the only reason I'd consider going back. Cons: Not funny more

One of the Funniest Improv Venues in the Country 1/21/2006

My mom, my boyfriend and I all LOVED the ""Yankee Swap"" death match show. It's about half improvised and half scripted, and the cast has great timing and great energy. This is right up there with ""Second City' in Chicago or ""The Groundlings' in LA. I highly recommend it for everyone, and I'll be bringing all my out-of-town guests. Plus it's right on Hanover Street in the North End so you have a million restaurants to walk to. Beware the Thursday night free buffet though - really scary looking pasta. Pros: Hilarious, Original, Interactive Cons: Beer & wine only more

UnHappy Experience All Around 10/19/2005

I've seen good improv shows, and this was one of the worst shows I've ever been to. To be honest I was completely bored or confused throughout the show. During intermission I discovered that the audience was full of performers friends, which is why the show got any laughs at all. They fleece you with high ticket prices, high drink prices, and impossible parking, and then they don't have the decency to put together a well organized show. (while you're there they keep trying to sell you stuff) Ugh, I felt like asking for my money back for a wasted evening. My date who I had brought with me agreed that it was no fun to watch, so we left before the show ended. I had heard good things about them, but at least for me it was a frustrating experience. Cons: Boring, Disorganized, Expensive more

Best ongoing show in Boston 9/30/2005

I've been a few times now and it's always a great time. The show is different every time and is always hysterically funny. I was there last week and got to to talk with one of the actors (hang out after the late show and they usually come out to talk) -- I guess they are previewing new material for a brand new show, but there was one sketch about a throat punching office worker that was unbelievably funny. Pros: Great for date, Great with Friends, Funny more

Quite an evening! 4/30/2005

I've been to quite a few improv shows, from NY to Chicago, and this one is among the best. The pre-written parts are solid, but the improv skills are really top-notch. The night we were there, a large group was removed for being obnoxious during the show; the cast and crew handled it seemlesly, and the show got even funnier afterwards! Pros: cozy, nearby restaurants Cons: no food, no liquer more

Amateurish and desperate 10/27/2004

This show was quite bad. I've seen similar comedy shows in LA, Chicago and New York, and this shows was amateurish and uncreative by comparison. As they started to get desperate they whipped out the offensive material to get the easy drunk laughs, and even then the drunks were not laughing much. At one point an obviously drunk audience member yelled out a rude comment, asking the performers to be funny, and I was embarrassed to agree with him. They tried to end the show strongly with a musical number, which was decent, but it didn;t make me forget how boring the rest of the show was. Save your money, although YMMV. Pros: Restaurants nearby, Lots of seats Cons: , Boring Long Show, Overpriced tickets more

Very Funny! 9/6/2004

A great mix of improvisation and sketch comedy. One of the best shows I have seen. It's a great, inexpensive night out, and it's a great place to take a date -- not necessarily romantic, but it's fun and different from just going to a restuarnt, bar or movie. Pros: Funny, Change of Pace, Original more

Great Change of Pace 1/13/2004

In an attempt to do something ""different"" for a night out, I found this place on the web. While it says ""Improv"", it was more sketch comedy with improv elements thrown in. I was not disappointed. Most of the sketches were hysterical, and the crowd that night really gave some enthusiastic suggestions. After the show I had the chance to talk to a few of the cast members at the bar and found out they change the sketches periodically, so this won't be a ""one and done"" trip when I'm looking for something a little different in the future. It's really a great time for the price. Pros: unique, entertaining, inexpensive Cons: parking more

Bad Service & Bouncers 10/6/2003

We really enjoyed the show, but we were herded away from the bar right when we arrived. Be sure to get there early so you can at least have one beer. FYI, there are no waitresses so you won't even get service during the show. The intermission is too short, and if you say anything during the show, which is a COMEDY show, where it is customary to burst out, the jerk bouncer might slam you out of the door! I was very offended by the attitude of the bouncers. I turned to say something to something to a fellow patron. When I did, the guy tapped me on the shoulder and told me to BE QUIET. I was SO embarrassed!!! Just be careful if you go, and get there early THEY ARE STRICT!!! The hospitality was not worth the $20.00 ticket! Pros: Funny, Talented Cons: Long, Unfriendly more

Middle School all over again. 1/15/2003

One actor made intelligent jokes, saving the night from being a total waste. Even though I was there for a corporate event and the humor was ""personalized"" for our group, I found it to be tired. The ""improv"" was, at best, boring and, at worst, offensive. They went for the easy, sophmoric jokes, i.e. men dressing as women, homosexuality, and love triangles. They exhibited no more imagination or sophistication than a bunch of 8th graders. The sketch comedy was even worse. Imagine the least funny bits of SNL, sprinkled with bits that made me feel very uncomfortable for my gay & disabled friends in the audience. Cons: boring more

the best one in the entire word 1/13/2003

It is a very fun place. I love to go there. It the best one I have ever been to. more

Improv ..... not ! 10/26/2002

There is nothing improv about this place. It is well rehearshed with a few ""name"" and place changes ! I sat at the side and could see them going through their script at the back. more
