Great Food. Great Service. Enough said!!

Worst

Where Hula Hut is concerned, I give the same advice I give regarding the Oasis: sure, it's a fun place to hang out with friends and have a few (overpriced) drinks. But don't eat t...

Worth It! 5/14/2004

I love this place. The tubular taco's are worth every penny! Be aware, the place is popular - so there may be a tad bit of a wait to be seated. But if you're not in a rush - it's worth the wait. The prices are somewhat reasonable, and the food is good. Salsa is tasty, and not overwhelming with heated spice! Ask for the jalapeno ranch for your chips - it's extremely tasty!!! Pros: Patio seating , without direct sun, good service more

Fun for happy hour, but eat elsewhere. 2/19/2003

Where Hula Hut is concerned, I give the same advice I give regarding the Oasis: sure, it's a fun place to hang out with friends and have a few (overpriced) drinks. But don't eat there. the food is mediocre, and suprisingly expensive for what they serve. more

carpet central 1/7/2003

great spot, hot girls, great drinks, food only OK but who cares. more

Hula Hut is Horrible 12/5/2002

3 strikes you are out. I was hoping third time would be a charge but this was not the case. After waiting over an hour (every time) I ordered the Thai Shrimp Fajitas once and then pipeline enchilada the other two times. They put too much thai pepper in the shirmp fajitas and i had to have milk to try keep my face from burning off. The other two times the food was over-cooked and the beands were bland. The service was mediocre but the only thing this place has going for it is atmopshere. Skip Hula Hut and go to Mozart's next door. Pros: good view, atmopshere, prices Cons: long wait time, mediocre service, bad food preperation more

Purrrfect! 11/26/2002

livin it up on the lake 11/18/2002

great atmosphere, good food, all sorts of people, great location more

Great atmosphere and food 11/18/2002

We were a bit sunny on the deck, but it was a great atmosphere with unique tastes at an affordable cost. Salsa was yummy. more

Great place to take out of town visitors 10/27/2002

Hula Hut's best quality is it's outdoor deck/pier.......make sure you go on a warm sunny day! The food is a little pricey but it's good food and there's quite a selection to choose from. The worst characteristic: it's ALWAYS very busy, so be prepaired to wait at least 20 minutes (if not longer) before being seated. more

Don't plan a group gathering here... 8/18/2002

The Hut is a great Austin destination for first time visitors to the city. I was planning a whirlwind tour of Texas. Our flight from San Francisco got us to Austin in time for lunch and back out again to the next city at 3 PM, and I wanted to take my friends to Hula Hut as a nice way to introduce them to the city. Because they are too busy, they don't take reservations or make exceptions. I was truly disappointed, but understand. Don't plan on impressing your out of town guests here unless you are flexible and willing to wait a LONG time! They will not work with you. more

Hip & Happening 8/14/2002

Hula Hut offers the best lake view, the most energetic environment, and, oh yeah, the food and drinks are great, too! It is the perfect happy hour hangout. Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: Crowded more

GREAT PLACE 8/11/2002

The South Bay Seasar is fantastic, so is the key lime pie, and the tubular tacos, and INCREDIBLE sangria!! (Plus, you cant beat the view) Pros: Food, View, Sangria Cons: Nothing, Nothing, Nothing more

Try the fishbowl. 8/8/2002

Been here a few times with larges groups. The staff was attentive and their original drinks were great. you cant go home without having a fishbowl. The food was decent and came out in average time. more

Food & View 8/3/2002

Great Tex-Mex! My favorite salsa and queso in town. Try the tubular tacos. Great view, be prepared for long waits on gorgeous days to dine on the patio. Pros: ambiance/location, food, value Cons: limited delivery area more

hula hula 7/29/2002

good food, consistent. Often wait is long. Nice outdoors area for dining and just sipping ritas Pros: good outdoor seating, good platters to shar Cons: crowded, birds are messy more

get the hulala 5/19/2002

Alright, it's the size of a fish bowl, but, the rum-powered hu lala is a great hot day beverage. Just make sure someone else is driving you home. more

Tubular tacos 5/18/2002

This lively spot right on the bank of Lake Austin has some great patio dining. The tubular tacos are huge burritos chock full of goodies. The drinks aren't to be missed. It's often packed, so it may not be the best stop if you're hungry right then and there. more

Great place to 'Meat' people 5/16/2002

The happy hour here is always packed when the weather is nice. I can't believe how many people fit on the pier. And most of them seem single. The bartenders are working hard to keep the drinks flowing. The food is pretty good if you come here to dine. The view of Lake Austin is very nice. You not only see the dam, but the nice houses on the other side that you might choose to covet. more

Like Cancun in Austin -- sort of 5/16/2002

One of the few places in Central Texas where you can sit in the sun, look out over the water, drink a cold Corona with lime, gaze at blond beer-guzzling coeds, munch on some spicey nachos and really feel like you're far away. Sure is a pain to park here at a busy time, but go on a weekday afternoon and you'll slip right in, surrounded by a few overweight salesmen with ill-fitting pressed shirts, secretaries with runny makeup slipping out for the afternoon and the occassional gaggle of sorority girl, drinking to forget their night before it even starts. In short, my kind of place! Pros: big burritos, great view, friendly bartenders Cons: horrible parking, a bit pricey more

Fond memories 5/16/2002

I know longer live in Austin. But for a time, I lived right around the corner from Hula Hut. Some of my best meals were spent on the back deck, drinking margaritas and eating flautas and queso. I still think they have some of the best queso around. Pros: back deck, queso, Tex-Mex options Cons: long waits more

Thanks for the memories 5/16/2002

I don't live in Austin anymore, but I miss the Hula Hut in the summertime. There's always something going on here, and frequently someone ends up taking a little swim in the lake (another fish bowl casualty). The service is often slow, but you can soak up some of the tequila with free chips and salsa. Pros: atmosphere Cons: a little pricey more
