This was the best chinese Ive had in years. It's what I would call a classic chinese restaurant. We had mongolian beef and general tsos. I.recommend both. I wilk definately eat here next time Im in.san Antonio. more

This is one unique place that has always kept competitive attitude by serving excellent food at affordable prices. Try compow chicken with steamed rice. I eat there everyday when working for Bjorn?s Audio and Video service department.\r \r Thank you Hsiu Yu.\r \r All the best from:\r \r Mathew Orman more

Consistent Good Chinese 10/9/2010

You won't be disappointed. This restaurant has won awards for it's food. Try the banana dessert if you like bananas..sweet,sweet, mmm-mmm yummy Also , the baby bok choy in oyster sauce is specatacular. This restaurant is very dark and intimate inside..a nice treat from the rush of your day. I very much enjoy this restaurant. The brunch is wonderful on Sundays too. more

Be Aware 10/1/2010

I would just like to let all of you loyal customers know that this place is not as sanitary as it would seem. Before quitting, there are several things that I learned about this restaurant. For one, they take the sauce from the tables and put it back and reuse it. Also, if something falls out of it's container, they ask that we put it back. I was shocked when I was told to do this. I threw food away because it hit the dirty work area and I got yelled at because I was ""wasting."" Not to mention, they pick into the food before they serve it. Also, employees are not required to wash their hands. I would just like to let everyone know because I was appalled when I saw these things going on which is one of the biggest reasons I quit. more

Simply the best... 8/4/2010

I hesitate to write here. Given the other sterling reviews it will be redundant, but my entire family for three generations have eaten here regularly. When the kids come back into town skid marks are laid down as they turn into the parking lot. My personal favorites are the shrimp toast and hot and sour soup and Szechuen beef and cashew chicken and...well, you get the picture. Run, do not walk! more

The Best Szechuan Style Chinese Food!! 5/25/2009

This is the best Chinese food that I have tasted in San Antonio. Not your ordinary ""fast food"" chain restaurants like PF Changs. If you like Szechuan style chinese food this is the place to go. Authentic!! Pros: Excellent Food and Service more

My Favorite 3/30/2009

My old favorite chinese restaurant was named Ling's Dragon off of FM78 on the northeast side of town. Unfortunately they closed and I was left without a favorite Chinese restaurant. Until a friend of mine who worked at Ling's recommended this place. It is awesome, my favorite is the spicy shredded chicken. Hsiu Yu has become my favorite Chinese restaurant thanks to the awesome food, great service (they all know me by name) and the great atmosphere. Other good Chinese restaurants are Ding How, Royal Inn, and Peng's Chinatown. Make sure to try one of these four before you go to an overrated place like PF Changs or Formosa Gardens. Pros: Great service and great food Cons: busy during lunch more

Okay but not great 1/6/2009

The food was fair if you want average Chinese food but its not ""cuisine"". I'd recommend PF Changs or Taipei if you are looking for great Asian dining. Pros: fried rice, shrimp toast Cons: service attention and price value more

Friendly neighborhood restaurant with consistently good food 10/18/2008

Hsui Yu may not be the fanciest nor priciest Chinese restaurant in the '09 zip code, but it's surely the friendliest. Low staff turnover ensures that regulars are recognized and welcomed warmly; small children are treated kindly as well. The food is consistently good and portions are generous. Sunday ""brunch"" menu includes appetizer, soup and entree at a reasonable price. My highest compliment: the busboys go out of their way to ensure that diners are never without refills, even before they're requested. Nice neighborhood restaurant with solid management and a friendly feel. Pros: Friendly staff, prompt seating, good food, fair prices Cons: Small dining rooms with closely-placed tables more

Absolute favorite Chinese food! 5/5/2008

I have been coming here for years, and it is by far my favorite chinese food anywhere...it makes it hard for me to eat anywhere else! The spicy shredded chicken is to die for, as is the sesame chicken and egg drop soup! Service is great, nice atmosphere....Highly recommended! Lunch specials change each day and are served quickly. Try it! more

Chinese food that can be had again and again 6/6/2007

This is not a run of your mill Chinese place. The menu is varied with good selection of different kinds of meat, poultry & seafood. The place is a little dimly lit but cozy. The service is pretty good. Sea food preparations normally take a little longer but I got excellent service for my order of shrimp. Pros: Good service, ample parking, good menu Cons: A little pricey more

Best Chinese!! 5/31/2007

This is truly the best chinese food in San Antonio. The service is always wonderful! All of the dishes I have tried here are wonderful. The recent addition of crab ragoon as an appetizer has become one of my new favorites. I recommend the egg drop soup, crab rangoons or egg rolls to start. As an entree, the spicy shredded chicken, sesame chicken or chicken chow mein are all good choice. Don't forget the shrimp fried rice (no peas for me). Their fried rice is truly the best. You won't be sorry when you dine here. more
