Beautiful Gallery 9/26/2005

The Honolulu Academy of Arts is like an oasis in the middle of town. When you enter the Academy of Arts there is a nice courtyard surrounded by numerous walkways that lead into different areas of the building. The Honolulu Academy of Arts displays international as well as local artwork by renown artists. Their exhibits are wonderful and exquisite. Some of their shows are popular shows that are exhibited at top mainland galleries. Even though you are in Hawaii, you can see artwork by renown artists at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. more

Nice Art Exhibits 9/18/2005

The Honolulu Academy of Arts is great for the family and children since they can see a variety of artwork from artists around the world. They have numerous galleries that host different shows especially by local artists and photographers like John Kelly, A.S. McLeod and other artists. They also have wonderful art classes here during the summer for aspiring young artists. They are open daily except on Mondays and charge an admission fee. This place is well worth the visit. more

Where else in Hawaii can you see art like this 8/18/2005

Wow, I remember visiting the "Academy" as a kid quite a bit during field trips, but I was never really an "artsy" type of person. Now, I'm still not really that artsy but my wife is and my children, like most children, really like art. During my last visit there I actually looked at what was around, there were Picaso's and paintings from other famous artists. One piece in particular was quite interesting, it was a sand piece done by Tibetan(?) Monks. Apparently they used colored sand and straws to "paint" a Mon. It was incredible, and after it was done, they washed it away. I didn't witness either the creation, or the "clean up" but they symbolism had something to do with patience during the creation and the fact that nothing was permanent during its destruction. While I have never been to a large art museum I am sure everyone can find something they have never seen before at the Academy! more

Nice museum with special children's days 7/9/2005

The Honolulu Academy of Arts is a nice museum to check out. Once a month they offer children's day which has something special for the kids. You can look in the paper or website to see the current displays. They bring in artist's work from Asia and other areas of the world regularly. If you haven't been it is worth checking out. more
