Fantastic food and experience! 6/28/2011

We LOVE coming to eat here. The food is spectacular. We have gone here countless times and have never ever been dissapointed. Typically when my husband, daughter and I go out to eat there, we almost always spend almost $100. That includes the salad, soup and steak entree. The owner is such a sweetie, she always comes over to say hello and plays with the kids. It is longer than your average out to dinner meal, just like any japanese steakhouse. My husband and I have visited many of these types of restaurants in various cities, and this one by far has been our favorite. Our daughter says, ""can we go eat at the fire restaurant!?"" I highly recommend it. It is classy and a fun time. more

Ugh! A fly in the lemonade! 1/23/2011

This is tough. Went on New Years Eve with high expectations. Had made our res a week proir & get there &they haven't got it. Told us they'd get the manager. We waited 20 mins for her without her or any employee letting us know it would be that long. Then while having our drink order taken, our waiter (also the bartender) became irate with me because I asked my options other than Coke. I wasn't quick enough for him so he says,""I'll bring you water,"" but I didn't want or ask for water so I said, ""I don't want water."" he ignored me so I said it again, he'd moved on to my friend, & then he snaps at me & says, ""I heard you,"" very obviously irate. Our part of 6 were all taken back by how rude he was. From then on, he was just totally uninterested in giving us good service. Loved our chef. He was very professional & good & entertaining. When my friend discovered the dead fly in her lemonade, the chef had to ask twice for someone to get rid of the drink after she was ignored. Sadly, the best they offered her was the drink for free. We don't like paying $35.00 for a plate & then being treated so poorly. We'll never go back there again. The food was no better than what you'd get at Lone Star or Outback & the service was absolutely horrid. Benihana is much, much better & I totally regret taking our friends there. more

Delicious Sushi! 12/19/2009

Amazing, fresh and flavorful sushi. We have been here 4 times and have never been disappointed. They always have great sushi specials and great drinks. They cook sea scallops perfectly...I love scallops and have a hard time finding a restaurant that does not ""rubberize"" them during the cooking process. Hanabi gets it right. Yum! I can't wait to go back! Pros: Sushi, Scallop dinner Cons: slow server, but she was a newbie more

I love sushi! 9/11/2009

This place is great. I really do love sushi and sitting at the bar is the way to go. These guys really know their stuff and they take care of you. If you need a fix these guys are it!!! Pros: Spicy Tuna Roll Cons: My small tummy more

YUMMMMMMM and fabulous service! 4/18/2009

Absolutely love Hanabi and have turned it into a regular hangout for great sushi and drinks. The service is great the atmosphere is wonderful and pleasant. I have not yet tried sitting at a hibachi table but have sampled a few hibachi dinners and the food has always been wonderful. The service is great from all the wait staff but Jannetta is definitely a star! The owner has always welcomed us and been extremely generous! This is definitely one of our favorite hangouts and we often bring our friends to try it. So far everyone that we brought to Hanabi has love it! It is very clear from my experience at Hanabi that excellence is what they strive for and achieve! Pros: Sushi is always fresh and so good and the service is great. more

The worst place to work and eat! 4/14/2009

They are hiring underage students in the new forestville,md location and working them all day without a break. They are not being trained properly and then fired after 3days of training if they make one mistake. They're serving drinks to the underage employees and they're not washing their hands before they prepare the food. Looks good on the outside but its literally hell on the inside. I would not ever eat there and I will never allow one of my relatives to work there again. Health code and civil rights violations......check it out!!!!! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

yummy and fun for the kids 3/20/2009

our kids had never been to a japanese grill before so we looked for one in Denver. We don't live there so it was hard and took our chances with the reviews on citysearch. Being as we went early we didn't think we would need a reservation, not thinking they would have to have a grill person ready. I would now recommend anyone have a reservation regardless of what time it is. It was fun, the service was good, and the food was great! Pros: good food and service Cons: little bit of a wait more

So Much Fun 1/2/2009

My daughter's 15th birthday was a couple of fridays ago and we came here for the first time. We unfortunately did not make reservations and had to wait maybe 30 minutes for a table. But it was well worth the wait. The food was very good and we had a great chef. I can't quite remember his name, but our server's name was Brian and we had a lot of fun with him as well. Awesome service and awesome food! Pros: Fun for the family Cons: Long wait (I guess to be fair, it was the weekend. We'll be making reservations next time!!) more

great sushi 1/1/2009

my girlfriend and i went in a few days ago for the first time and had a fantastic experience. we orded a submarine roll (reccommended by our waiter), philly roll, and unagi roll. everything tasted great! this place really exceeded our expectations and we'll be back real soon more

awesome awesome awesome! 12/19/2008

My family and I went this past tuesday for the habachi grill. We did not have reservations, but because it was a weekday we only had to wait about 5 minutes (which isn't bad at all). For dinner, I ordered grilled salmon with ginger soy sauce and my husband had a couple of sushi rolls. The kids ordered terriyaki chicken off their menus and the portion was great, along with some ice cream for them at the end. Everything tasted great! The staff was very friendly and we were more than satisfied with our overall experience. It was definitely a great place to accomodate those who (like me) don't really go for the foreign food and (my worldy husband) who loves it all . Raw fish and exotic flavors just aren't my thing, so I guess you could say I'm a very ""meat & potatoes"" type of gal. My motto though, is you have to keep an open mind with these things and sometimes the unfamilar can be worth while. Our server was very helpful with suggestions and my dinner for sure exceeded my intial expectations. Even my picky children were happy! I reccommend this place to anyone!! We will definitely be back soon... more

Sit at the bar.....or don't go 10/21/2008

I highly recommend Hanabi for service at the bar. Josh, the bartender is friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and a very skilled bartender. We always sit at the bar because the service is great. Avoid the manager/owner/womanwithglasses person who has no idea what customer service is about. more

What a great experience 9/4/2008

My hats off to the Hanabi Grill & Sushi Bar in Littleton. My family and I just returned from a wonderful dinner. The food, service and atmosphere was fantastic. The manager/owner visited our table and made some wonderful sushi suggestions as this is a new type of cuisine for my family. I can't believe I waited this long to try it. Highly recommend!!! Pros: Great Service, Food especially the sushi more

AVOID AT ALL COST 8/2/2008

This was one of the WORST visits to a restaurant I have ever had in my life. My friend took me there for my birthday - we ordered drinks - one being the Pink Dragon - raspberry sake and other goodies - when we got the drink and tasted it - it tasted like Hawaiian p unch. Now I don't like Hawaiian p unch so I told the waiter I didn't like it. The manager came over and said there was nothing she could do - but offer to make it frozen or add more sake. I said I'd like to get something else instead - BUT she told me she wouldn't take it off the bill. I was stuck with an $8.00 drink I wasn't going to drink. Then she proceeded to give ME a lesson in ordering. She was condesending and totally rude. I will never go back and will tell everyone I meet to avoid this unfriendly place. Cons: You better like what you order - even if you don't like it you pay for it. more

Good Food - Great People 2/15/2008

I was recently impressed by the fresh food and friendly staff at Hanabi. We arrived to a packed restaurant and were greeted with a smile. We had wonderful fresh sushi and an exciting show at the grill. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and pleasant. Maybe everyone should stop trying to re-write the menus and pick from the great selections on both the sushi and hibachi side. Next time I'll bring more friends to surround our grill. Pros: Great food nice people Cons: Complaining Sububan Families more

Worst Customer Service Ever!!!!!!!!!!!! 12/17/2007

My son who was celebrating his 35th birthday, picked Hanabi because they offered sushi and his 4 year old daughter would be amazed by the knife throwing, grill before your eyes fare they offered. We made reservations and stated it was to celebrate a birthday and we were amazed when we arrived on a Saturday night and the restaurant seemed almost empty. We were seated, had a wonderful meal and tried to entertain the birthday boy until they acknowledged the big day. We waited rather impatiently for about 15 minutes and finally our young waiter came to the table and announced, ""Sorry the cake is taking so long but the kitchen is really backed up"". Well now, the surprise is out but knowing the 4 year old wants to sing, we wait. About 10 minutes later the waiter appears again and says, "" I'm really embarassed but I have to ask for your ID sir"". We all started laughing until we figured out that they weren't questioning his age but his date of birth. He complied (I'm sure I wouldn't have) and about 10 more minutes pass until the waiter sheepishly brings a VERY small slice of frozen chocolate cake to the table. We all sing, including the one waiter, and we finally pay the $130.00 bill and leave. As I was leaving I noticed the woman who seemed to be in charge so I stopped and told her that I was a little more than disappointed. She answered my complaint with, ""it is our policy to ask for ID's to prevent people from getting cake for free."" My reply , ""dinner $130.00, a sliver of cake free, the laughs our family will share about this place, priceless"". Now I know why the place was almost empty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Fun for children but so is Chuckie Cheeze at 1/4th the price. Cons: Average food, poor service and the worst management policies I have ever seen. more

No substitutions for you!!!! says sushi n**i 12/16/2007

After trying other sushi restaurants in the area we decided to bop into Hanabi for a bite on a cold Sunday December evening. We admired the holiday decor from our seats at the bar, ordered miso soup, edamame, two beers (both Japanese, both on tap) and the shrimp shumai app. The problem started when the waiter (a very nice young guy) informed us that we could not substitute a spicy tuna roll for the Cali roll on the nigiri sampler, one roll with seven fish nigiri. We said that we would be willing to pay an additional cost-no biggie. He then came back and said, to his dismay, that the sushi bar would not substitute at all! We said okay, then when the manager walked by, I introduced us and talked about other restaurants in the area before inquiring about the no substitution policy. Her response was 1) if she let us substitute then what could she do when everybody wants to substitute? (heaven forbid!) and 2) food costs prohibit her changing from the Cali to the spicy tuna (even though they are both $6.00 on the menu!). The food was okay-we got the spicy tuna roll alone but lost the rest of our appetite. Not a big deal, but bad customer service on their part. Maybe that is why the place was 70% empty! Pros: lots of available seating, no waiting Cons: no spicy roll for you! more

Hanabi? I want a buffet! 6/8/2007

Just got back from droppin a load of batteries in Arkansa (I drive truck)and thought I would take the family out for a nice dinner. Things were goin real nice, got a sweet spot for the rig in the lot and the kids finally shut up, but then we walked into the cultural abyss that is Hanabi. There were things sizzling on folks? tables but worst of all where buffet with the real nice Sunday station that mom and the kids like so much?\r \r After thinking about what I would have to do to the cook if he got crud on my new #3 leather jacket (burn his lil gripper to a crisp on that thur hotplate) and how fired up mom would get if she saw me eyeballin up the waitresses we fired up the rig and I treated the family to some nice vittles at the Wal-Mart deli that we so dearly love. more

We will be back 5/26/2004

Hanabi may not look like much from the outside, but the inside is surprisingly elegant. Guests are given a choice of waiting for the hibachi or a private table. We took the hibachi as the wait was longer but be prepared to chat with your neighbors at the grill. Our chef was entertaining and the food was great. We tried the tofu and veggie plate and some sushi. While it was good, it was expensive and way too much food. We will be back, but we will share one dish. Try a saketini, we loved them! Pros: great food, many choices, good time Cons: , price more
