I've been a regular patron for several years. Being the only club in the area that caters to the type of clientele that I like to be around, Hairston's has a monopoly on the mature adult venue. There's a decent balance of the various age groups, and the mix of men and women is often good. The music covers every decade from the 70's to 2006, and includes club as well as house music. Whether you're doing the New York Hustle, the Chicago Step, the Detroit Ballroom Step, Line dances or freestyle dances, you'll be delighted. The regulars are called uppity, but I'd rather been catergorized as uppity rather than the terms given to those with lower class, so, I guess the shoe fits, therefore I'll wear them. The managers Cecil and Todd are wonderful, the bartenders Marcus, Chris, and the others and the bathroom attendants, including the deceased Mama Rosa and Sharon have been a joy.
I would however, like to see an emphasis placed on the customer service amongst a few of the waitresses, and waiters, an improvement of the dance floor, and an updated general appearance overall before it can be truly rated as an upscale establishment. You have to request water with your dinner, popular drinks (Patron, Hypnotic, Alize, etc.) are rarely stocked, there's no bread or crackers accompanying the Gumbo, and sometimes you have to request condiments and even silverware before you can enjoy the meal, which is usually great once it's complete. The drinks could be better too. The Saturday birthday party can use some tweaking, because it becomes redundant and predictable. A live jazz/R&B nite and comedy nite on other nights, especially Thursday night, would be a welcomed addition. A nightly Happy Hour, a free limited buffet and a Men's Night are some things that should be given as a way to thank us for our support.
