Gruet Steakhouse

Nothing like paying $140 for a lousy meal with horrible rude service to start a trip. Our waiter was an arrogant pr*ck that treated us like we had never been to a restaurant before. He also made rude comments as he left our table. The food was awful. Salmon carrpacio is supposed to be paper thin not 1/4 inch thick and have to be cut with a fork. The oysters were nearly seared in their shells and had to be scraped out. The Ahi tuna wellington was so dry after 3-4 bites I could hardly chew it (ordered rare by the way). The ($45) rackof lamb was mostly fat and in a sauce that was at best bland. Then our cremebrulee came to the table charred. not just a little, but black! I won't even comment on the wine. I hated that I started off a vacation to Albuquerque this way. I soon found out that most of the other restraunts and their staff laugh at the Gruet. They deserve the bad reputation they are getting. We had dinner with our 3 (v young) children and we had a great experience. The steaks were well-seasoned and cooked properly ( in our case, a proper medium rare) and the sides were tasty enough for the children to ask for more of them. The service staff was attentive and personable, and we do commend the maire'd for a job well done. Pros: service, good steaks more

You know I've been to a few great restaurants in my life but this place really is more than plenty in the bs department. My wife and I had dished out $200 for dinner that was more than forgetable. We had a French cheese plate that if it was served anywhere in Paris would be taken as an insult. My filet mignon was okey, but out of the I don't how many ounces 1/3 was a huge piece of bone. Our wine was extremely overpriced, turned out next day when I came across it at the grocery store. The desert, I don't even remember. I guess that these poeple figured that the rich of Albuquerque has to be so *tupid that they would buy it anyway. This was the worst $200 I've ever spent on food. I will never go back to this place.
