Best

Greens is my favorite restaurant hands down (I've eaten at a lot of great places too). It's very Californian and 100% vegetarian. The atmosphere is great too. The recipes are s...

We went for my birthday on a Saturday night and had to wait 15 min. for our Reserved table. Our hard, cold bread came immediately after our starter, followed by our appetizers le...

Great place! 12/3/2002

It's usually difficult to find a nice (read: upscale & casual) vegetarian restaurant. Being a vegetarian all my life and having been to many horrible vegetarian restaurants where they serve you a salad and some strange concoction, I was very weary of Greens. I was incredibly surprised when the food was delicious, the service was great, and the mood was nice. I have since visited three times and always been happy with the restaurant. Thank you Greens, you raise the bar for vegetarian dining. Pros: Upscale, Location, Casual Cons: Expensive, Bad Parking more

Greens Makes Me Smile 9/11/2002

I've been here twice as a tourist, once several years ago, once last year. The view was wonderful! Sunshine and sparkling bay waters greeted us during lunch; during dinner, we had a windowside view of sunset behind the Golden Gate Bridge. The room is cozy, the food is tasty and varied, and the wait staff is warm and welcoming. Pros: Parking available, Tasty food, Rich desserts Cons: Hard to find more

vegans/lactose intolerant: warning 9/10/2002

Sure, Green's is fine, if no longer cutting edge, for vegetarians. But forget about eating there if you are vegan/lactose intolerant. On multiple visits (and conversations with friends who work there) I've confirmed that Greens is to vegetarian restaurants what Katzen's Moosewood was to vegetarian cookbooks: ground-breaking, but dairy-dependent. Pros: nice setting Cons: dairy in everything more

great veg and great service 8/28/2002

Went here on my birthday and thoroughly enjoyed. Our waiter was very knowledgable, friendly and went out of is way to give us a pleasurable dining experience. The salads were great,a nd the 1/2 bottles of wine are nice and no more expensive that should be. It can be expensive, but will be delicious. Pros: great service more

You pay for the view, not the food 8/16/2002

Granted, the view from Greens is fine. But, the food is not worth the fare on Muni you pay to get there nor worth the price of the gas if you drive. You can get a good view from nearby Crissy Field and you don't have to pay for mediocre food and terrible service. Pros: Only the view Cons: Medioce food, Bad service more

pure bliss... 7/23/2002

even my omnivore boyfrien couldn't help but be imppressed. having been a vegetaian for years, Greens gives me a chance to show local friends as well as out of town guests just how well we veggies can eat. the food is splendid, there is always something for the more hesitant (i.e. steak and potatoes every night), service is attentive, and the view is gorgeous. bravo! more

disappointed 7/14/2002

Greens has officially become overrated. Went to brunch there today. Sure, nice view, room, etc. But, first the menu was completely boring - same sad old non-meat dishes you see at almost every other brunch/lunch place in the city (mushroom sandwich, salad, etc). Of the 4 breakfast egg dishes, they were unable to adjust for one ingredient due to an allergy. All were ""preprepared"". Outrageous that you can't get even a $11 omelet with a special request. Third, the portions were tiny (4 little potatoes slices and 2 little sad greenbeans for the side). Lastly, the food was just plain mediocre. Pros: view, view, view Cons: bad food, small portions, boring menu more

Great Experience 6/14/2002

My date and I had an incredible table by the window, as soon as the sun was setting the very attentive staff pulled up the blinds to reveal a stunning view of the GG bridge and the Bay. Very Romantic!! The food was simply outstanding, the wine list quite good, and the service was superior. This is a Great San Francisco Dining experience. Pros: excellent food, excellent atmosphere, excellent service Cons: crowded, smallish tables more

A Fantastic Experience! 6/12/2002

We recently took my sister, a vegetarian, here. My partner and I are both major meat-eaters, but we ended up having a fantastic meal. The flavors were sublime, everything tasting just as nature meant it to. We did the wine tasting menu and were not disappointed in the pairings - some very nice surprises, actually. Service was flawless, attentive but NEVER rushed. I've had a lot of memorable meals in SF and this is up there with the best! Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Location Cons: Expensive more
