My mom and I have used Greenfield Veterinary Hospital for our many cats since I was a child and Dr. Babik was still independently practicing there. We met Dr. Winnie shortly after...

I have been taking my pets to Greenfield Veterinary Hospital for several years now, based upon a recommendation of an animal loving colleague (the proud owner of dogs, cats, birds...

Incompetent & untruthful 8/24/2007

Dr. Z. diagnosed my cat, Max, with renal failure with complications. She refused to give a prognosis, but said the alternative was a long hospital stay and surgery. He was old and I didn't want him afraid and alone, so I said I would have him put to sleep, but I asked to spend some time with him first. He was alert when I left him for tests. They brought him to me completely limp, one eye staring, one eye shut, mouth hanging open and barely breathing. When I cried, Dr. Z and the receptionist shouted at me that I had requested sedation, he really was conscious, and it's always done this way. Max never blinked during the shouting. Actually, I didn't request it, but I guess I signed for sedation, but I didn't think it meant comatose. None of my other pets were euthanized that way. What moron wouldn't know you would want to say goodbye to your CONSCIOUS cat? I loved Max so dearly for 11 years. These people robbed us of our goodbyes, lied to me, and attacked me when I cried. Don't go there. more

Greenfield Vet: very caring 8/11/2005

We recently switched to the Greenfield Veterinary clinic on Greenfield Ave. and were very impressed by the staff. They were caring and competent. They were also reasonably priced. Our only criticism is that their facilities are a bit cramped and not set up well for keeping rowdy animals separated. Since we haven't been with them very long, we can't testify to their ability to handle a critical situation but for routine care, they seem great. more

Owner Message

  • Greenfield Veterinary Hospital opened its doors in 1979. The owner, Frank Babik, VMD operated as a solo practitioner at this location until Sean Winnie, DVM joined the practice in 2001. In 2006 when Dr. Babik decided to reduce the number of hours he wished to practice, Dr. Winnie took over as medical director. Dr. Babik officially retired in November 2008. Since 2006 the hospital has undergone a series of upgrades and changes to serve the needs of our clients better. New radiographic equipment for more expedient and improved radiographic quality were acquired in 2007. An endoscope to assist animals with chronic ear infections was also purchased in 2007. In 2011 we purchased the Abaxis HM5 Complete Blood Count (CBC) and the VS2 Chemistry Analyzer to provide rapid in-house blood analysis for critical and urgent cases to better treat those patients. We are modernizing our facility with a veterinary software management program for invoicing, vaccine tracking, record keeping, inventory and billing/payments. Although transitioning from a completely paper based practice to a paperless practice is far from complete, we are making major strides in reaching that ultimate goal. Our recycling and environmental goals are set for the future and achievable in the next couple of years. There will also be some structural changes to the building forthcoming at the end of 2012 beginning of 2013 that should help accommodate more patients and provide better service for our existing clients as well as the new clients that join the GVH family every day.. We perform all general surgery (spays, neuters and declaws),oral health assessment and cleanings, dental surgeries, mass removal, total ear canal ablations, enucleations, abdominal exploratories, anal gland abscesses, toe amputation, tail docks and dew claw removals on puppies, splenectomy, biopsies, limb amputation and more. We also offer ultrasound by a board certified internal medicine specialist who will come on-site to perform the procedure. We work exclusively with Antech laboratories for all our outside lab work.

    · In-house laboratory to check internal organ function preoperatively to insure pet is healthy enough for anesthesia.

    · All declaws remain hospitalized for 2 days so that pain can be managed with appropriate pain medication.

    · Pets hospitalized overnight are monitored by capable staff members.
