Great China Restaurant

This is a restaurant whose owner may not care about Customer Service. We waited a long time to be seated, and then waited for another 20 minutes for a waiter to take our order. One waiter just kept walking around, looked at us and did not want to take our order despite our signaling him. Then we had to call another waiter who finally took our order. When our food came, it was either lacking the salad or the egg roll that came with the lunch meal - which took them another 30 minutes to bring to us. When we were ready to pay, it took at least 10 minutes to flag down a waiter. When the waiter finally came with the bill, he just brought one fortune cookie and we asked if he could bring us two more, because there are 3 of us. And he pointed to a basket where there are fortune cookies and said to get it ourselves. Boy! That was really rude! With this kind of service, we thought that we shouldn't even leave a tip....anyhow we still left some anyway. Guess what, the same waiter who asked us to go get our own fortune cookies came back to tell us that we left too small a tip for them!! What audacity!! We wonder if the owner knows that his business is being ruined by his waiters!! more

Freshman year, my friend told me that Great China is the best place to get traditional Chinese food in Berkeley. The food is okay, but I've had better in So-Cal. I don't understand why this place is so packed. It takes forever to get a seat and service is slow and rude. We were taking our friend out for his birthday and they stuck us in a room upstairs that was so hot that we thought we'd get heat stroke. more

This restaurant has always got drones of people lining up to get seated. I now always make sure to call in advance for reservations. The restaurants got a familial feel and serves excellent dishes. I can't think of a single dish that my family has ordered that I didn't like. Service is generally excellent and wait time for food is usually minimal. Their Peking Duck is to die for...as are the jumbo prawns in orange sauce. Just writing this review is making me hungry. It's probably steeper than your typical chinese restaurant but definitely a great place to go if you have guests in town. I definitely recommend this for dates or large parties. It can get cramped but the food is well worth the wait. more

This is the best around. I don’t think that there is a better Chinese food restraint in Berkeley to go to. The surroundings are great and the service and price is amazing. You must come here and try the food. It's SO delicious! I recommend everyone to come to this place and have a great lunch or dinner! more

this restaurant is pretty good with a wide assortment of dishes and some are pretty vegetarian friendly. Price is ok, not too expensive and the food usually tastes good. It can be crowded at times but if you pick the right days its fine. Service is average. Compared to the wide variety of asian food in this area the food here is about average but if you are hungry its worth a try. more
