The food was awful and though the restaurant sent replacement food that was no better and frankly not worth the $30+ it cost to get it here more

Patio. Yes, I said Patio 5/10/2010

So, Grand Canal is your typical sports bar. Its near the Garden and lots of other sports pub type places on Canal Street. Nothing to necessarily write home about, right? Oh, my dear, so wrong. Grand Canal has a ridiculous patio that makes it SO much better than your typical sports bar. Who cares if the food is average pub fare when you can sit on their $$ deck and bask in the sunshine? The drinks are priced average for the area and they?ve got a decent beer selection. Bonus: for some reason this bar is never as crowded as the other Canal street haunts on game days so you can soak up some sun, get your booze on, and still make it to your game on time. Pros: the patio, proximity to T and the Garden Cons: mediocre food more

Eh... 8/9/2009

Maybe it was an off day for the employees here, the day I came in with a group of co-workers. Pros: Deck is awesome in the summer Cons: tap lines are dirty, bartenders can be confrontational more

Great summer bar for a relaxed Friday cocktail. Unique decor/ambiance. 8/4/2008

Went here for a few drinks after work on Friday. The bartender was very nice and the prices were average for a downtown bar ($6-$8 for a cocktail). The Grand Canal is decorated in a sort of southern ""bayou"" style mixed with your typical Boston/Italian flavor (a bizarre combination but it works). The bar's front windows open up on pleasant evenings and it makes for a great open/airy feeling. The deck out back is ample, although it does look onto the BigDig tunnel surfacing at the Leonard Zakim Bunker Hill bridge. In terms of dress code, I wore shorts and flip flops with a collared shirt with no problem. Typical Boston pub/bar attire will let you blend in just fine. Pros: Atmosphere, location, size, friendly staff Cons: Not exactly as it feels based on its website. more

Best spot for a 30th 8/24/2007

Best Pre and Post game Party! 4/7/2006

Went there before a bruins game had a nice bite to eat as well as apps.. After the band saw a great cover band and closed the place, not to mention the talent was pretty good fellas... Pros: convient, talent, food Cons: crowed more

What a find... 4/6/2005

I actually never went here until my haidresser (right next door) ordered some food from here for lunch, of course getting a full highlight can make a girl hungry so I ordered to. The food was awsome, the take out service was quick & the price was right. I find myself making excuses to head down canal street just to eat there!! Pros: take ou or dine in, great prices, great salon next door Cons: crowded at times more

A blast! 8/7/2002

The bar has great food, good music, big screen tv's and 30 types of beer along with a full bar.. What more could a person want? more

Grand Finale 7/29/2002

This place had the best Bloody Mary! The food was great and since it was the last place we went to after hitting about 7 places before hand, it was great to sit back and relax near the open windows! Pros: Best Bloody Mary Cons: Bar area was smokey more

Very fun! 6/13/2002

Amongst the many choices on Canal Street, The Grand Canal offers an unique option....the open windows that help keep the atmosphere exciting, and the good food - and drink - to help keep the crowds coming in! All of which add up to a lively - and sometimes loud! - experience! In the mood for a fun night out, and want to be surrounded by people in the same mood? Then head to Grand Canal! more

live music 5/19/2002

This place has a great live music scene on the weekends. I always have a great time here! more
