With so many wonderful and intimate West Village restaurants around, why would you bother going back to Gradisca? The food is uncreative and bland. The setting is college basemen...

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/5/2014

TRUE ITALY in New York!! Excellent, excellent, excellent! \r Had dinner there last night with a group of friends and all of us were amazed by the quality and presentation of the dishes that the menu says are prepared with local and organic ingredients. It ads that there are vegetarian and gluten-free options! The wine list is all-Italian, fairly priced with all price ranges, but the martinis were incredible. Cannot wai to go back soon. more

THIS IS THE BEST ITALIAN: LOVELY DINNER, FEELS LIKE ITALY 3/23/2014

We went there after a long time. We heard it's now Sarah Jessica Parker favorite restaurant and WOW! The atmosphere is amazing, the food is excellent (I had the carbonara and my husband had the veal chop special - It was fantastic). The service is very friendly and helpful.\r Definitely will return soon! more

MY GOODNESS, WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! 11/28/2011

By far the best Italian restaurant I've come across! I had dinner with a friend at Gradisca last night. The service was outstanding. The wait staff was very professional and attentive and our server could not do enough for us. The restaurant looked cozy and warm and thought it is a great place to meet with friends or bring a date. We shared the more

Great place for large parties 2/7/2011

Invited for birthday celebration this past weekend to this spot in the west village. First time there but not the last. Hung out at the bar till everybody else arrived (20 invited). The pomegranite martini is amazing. Really nice flavor & strong. When we were ready (& too many for the bar) we were seated in the back room. Nice & loud crowd already there. The food..the food...the food..WOW..Italian done right. We got a whole bunch of stuff to share & taste. The appetizers were yummy. My fav was the meatballs with pesto. They were so good that I could have eaten over and over again. Favorite pasta dish..the carbonara. Perfect serving for such a deep flavor dish. Every bite was balanced with all the mix of ingredients. Finished off with 3 scoops of in house made gelato. The cafe mocha is still in my head. Can't wait to go back for more dinners. more

THIS IS THE BEST ITALIAN: LOVELY DINNER, FEELS LIKE ITALY 1/31/2011

Went to dinner last night with a group of friends and discovered this little gem. The pecorino creme brulee appetizer was unusual but succulent and delicious. The lasagna made with crepes was an accomplished reinterpretation of the old dish, lighter but still tasty and cooked perfectly (perfectly al dente!). The chocolate tortinino dessert: to die for! Portions were human sized, not ridiculously gargantuan, exactly what you would be served in Italy. The price was not cheap, but represents value for quality (fresh, organic ingredients, local or imported from Italy, the menu also says). I highly recommend Gradisca and I will need to go back myself multiple times to try everything on the menu. more

this is ""italian"" ? you will leave hungry and disatisfied 12/6/2010

very disapointed with gradisca. the portions are extremely small and overpriced. the menu is very limited and the tables/seats are uncomfortable. don't waste your time . more

Food poisoning 6/24/2010

I used to love it here. When I went last, the server stated they got a new chef and that everything on the menu was ""generally the same."" Not true. Also got extremely sick from the seafood dish. Would never go back. Pros: food poisoning wasn't fatal Cons: But wasn't fun, either more

Perfection 6/9/2009

I've honestly been very reluctant to write a review on my favorite restaurant in manhattan, but i'm feeling generous :)\r \r Gradisca is perfection. Simple as that. The restaurant's owner flies in his mother from Italy once a month and she makes fresh pasta by the entranceway of the restaurant. Definitely try and get a reservation when she is in town and go for one of the pasta specials!\r \r My favorite pasta on the menu is the Maltagliati - ""badly cut"" egg noodles in a truffle cream sauce. I get this every time I'm there. \r \r They have very creative appetizers as well such as the Cheese Creme Brulee that do not ever disappoint.\r \r I can't say enough about this restaurant. The only thing you should be aware of is that it can get a little noisy if there are large groups dining at the same time as you. BUT if you're with the right person, you shouldn't even notice anyone around.\r \r \r Pros: food, ambiance Cons: nothing more

Wonderful Food, Romantic Environment 3/17/2009

I go to this restaurant every couple of months. The food is authentic and delicious, the waiters are friendly and charming and the mood is relaxed and romantic. The location is really great - this is one of the nicest streets in the West Village. I like to visit this restaurant in the warmer months so that I can eat outside on the patio. This place is high end, yet low key and casual. It is a great place to bring a date, your friends, or even your grandmother. It really is a hidden gem. The wine list is fantastic. Pros: Real Deal: owners, cooks and waiters are real Italians Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Great Italian Food and Good Service 1/20/2008

I went to this restaurant about a week ago on a date. We had no reservation but we were promptly seated. The restaurant is very romantic with dim lighting, a charming little place. We were seated at the front, but I believe there was a back room as well. We shared the octopus appetizer which was delicious. I had the veal special and creme brulee for dessert, both also great. We also ordered a bottle of wine. The waitress returned to our table a number of times to make sure that everything was good. I would recommend this restaurant for any date night. more

This Fat Lady Sings 5/7/2007

I was first introduced to the restaurant which translates into ""fat lady"" in Italian at my cousin's rehearsal dinner. We had the entire back of the restaurant devoted to our fete. The pasta is fresh and the bolognese sauce is to die for. Paired with their house chianti made for an eventful evening. Needless to say, I have been back. Check it out for dinner or your next event. Pros: Inviting decor and atmosphere more

Great fresh pasta dishes 4/30/2007

I love the atmosphere of this little neighborhood italian place. We consider Gradisca our old standby place- you can get in most nights without a reservation and the food and service is always reliable. Their fresh pastas are amazing- my favorites are the agnello and cavatelli. For an appetizer, a must-try is the piadina romagnola- flatbread. Pros: pastas, ambiance, service more

Best lasagna in nyc 3/27/2007

If you like lasagna, go to this place... best I've ever had! And if you're still hungry, you must have the panna cotta: words can't do it justice... more

BEST ITALIAN IN WEST VILLAGE 3/27/2007

EATING AT GRADISCA WAS REALLY SO ITALIAN AND GOOD... \r IT'S NOT ONLY THE FOOD - MY POLPO WAS INCREDIBLY TENDER AND SAVORY, THE LASAGNA WAS TO DIE FOR, AND THE PANNA COTTA... DELICIOUS, PURE HEAVEN!\r IT'S ALSO THE AMBIENCE, SO COZY YET LIVELY. AND THE SMILES FROM THE ADORABLE WAITERS ADDED TO THE EXPERIENCE (OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE ALL FROM ITALY...) more

food gone bad 3/19/2007

no good smell in the rooms, dirty kitchen and young spanish cooker. waiter have no respect for the costumer and don't know the menu, no menager or owner in the restaurant.\r more

Great italian in the west village 1/4/2007

Gradisca is a great date spot for simple italian food. The menu is a little pricey, but the food is great (i recommend the carbonara) and last i checked you could smoke in the back room. I like the dark romantic atmosphere and there selection of wine. I would suggest this place to someone looking for a place in the west village. Pros: Great food, dark atmosphere Cons: a little pricey more

Not that great... 7/26/2006

I went to Gradisca a few weeks ago and thought it was very average. The homemade pasta was ok. Nothing to brag about. I had a waiter who I couldn't understand at all. He had a really thick accent and was impossible to figure out. The wine was ok. Overall, this place is just blah!!! I just went to Gonzos which is on the same street and it was delicious. If you want Italian and you're in that part of town...go to Gonzo instead. Pros: Nice dark, romantic room Cons: Food & Service more

Best Italian I've had in New York 5/8/2006

Simply put, the food at Gradisca is outstanding. It's not cheap and it's not plentiful, but it is divine. My meal was just a notch below some of the best meals I've had in Italy -- a level of quality that I didn't think existed on this side of the Atlantic. I would recommend any of their ravioli dishes. For dessert, try the pistachio gelato. It doesn't taste quite like the gelato you get in Italy, but it's fabulous nonetheless. Pros: Amazing food Cons: Expensive, Small Portions more

WHY SO PRICY ?? 4/29/2006

YOU ARE ASPECTING TO PAY SOMETIMES MORE MONEY BUT GET VALUE FOR IT THIS IS MY THIRD TIME DINING IN AND ....MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDE THAT UNFORTUNATELY DID NOT REPRESENTS THE ITALIAN CULINARY FACE OF ROMAGNA ANYMORE. WAS MUCH BETTER WHEN THEY FIRST OPEN.TOO MUCH PRESENTATION ON THE DISHES MICROSCOPIC PORTIONS & UNBALANCED FLAVORS. I MAY HAVE TO GIVE THEM CREDIT BECAUSE THE PASTA'S ARE STILL QUIET OK ( NOT THE TORTELLI DI ZUCCA THOUGH ) BUT MY LORD, PLEASE REVIEWER CONTROL YOUR BADGET BEFORE YOU GO OUT IF YOU HAVE ONE ! $$$$$ Pros: COZY PLACE, NICE TABLES Cons: FOOD, SERVICE, expensive more
