My home away from home. Yuki and Jane are THE BEST. 9/24/2007

I've never posted on Citysearch before, but feel so strongly about this place that I think it's time for my inaugural review. I found Grace Heaven a few years ago on Citysearch and due to their high ratings took a gamble and booked an appointment with Yuki. I have curly/wavy hair and have NEVER found a stylist that I've gone back to more than once - for some reason no one can figure out how to cut my hair properly: they either do one of their stock cuts for curly hair that doesn't necessarily work with the shape of my face, or they just don't know what to do with curly/wavy hair period. Not so with Yuki! The first few times (jaded due to my past experiences) I brought him pictures of the EXACT haircut I wanted. Not only did he happily replicate (while always using the photo as reference and checking in with me about it), but he also offered suggestions as to adjustments to the cut that could work with my face shape and general style. He's kind and gentle and listens, and I now go in without any photos at all because I completely trust his taste and creativity. He's also a wiz with hair color (and I've tried tons!). Add to all this the warm, cozy, friendly atmosphere (including yummy beverages and head massages while being shampooed) and I am happy to spend hours there. I even regretfully tried another salon recently that others had recommended and now can't wait to go back to Yuki. I'll never stray again! Pros: Ambience, organic, friendly, fun Cons: none! more

Warm environment, great cuts! 9/4/2007

I've been going using Yuki at Grace Heaven monthly (I'm male) for nearly 4 years. He is patient, meticulous, unhurried, attentive and delivers cuts that look great when you walk out the door and when they've grown in. Jane, the owner, is a sweetheart, and has created a warm, inviting bohemian environment that anyone can appreciate. I moved from Union Square to the UES over 1.5 years ago and I still make the monthly trek to alphabet city, because no one else that I have tried comes close to the quality cut that I receive at Grace Heaven. Cliente is as diverse as the city. Highly recommended. Pros: warm environment, expert cuts, personal attention Cons: none more

Careful with those scissors! 2/27/2007

I like Jane very much and dug the vibe of the cozy salon. However, I have super thick hair and over the course of two haircuts, she managed to thin it out way, way too much. It's medium long, and I've subsequently had to cut several inches off the ends because she just left thin wisps. Pros: Natural products, cozy space Cons: Cash only, wrecked my hair more

Also, despite the East Village location, the clientele seems to be all the hippest moms from Montclair. Yawn. Pros: Natural products, cozy space Cons: Cash only, wrecked my hair more

Most excellent hair stylist and colorist! Major extra bonus: completely natural, non-toxic products. 10/22/2006

I love Jane Webb. Being unable to find anyone in the MD/DC area who met my hopeful-standard of non-toxicity in hair care products, I started searching the NYC area, because I am frequently in the city. Hooray! I found Jane! After my first cut and highlighting experience with Jane, which was the best I'd ever had, both in skill and concept, I wondered how Jane could possibly repeat such a wonderful performance, but she did. In fact, the second time was even better than the first. I'm completely sold, a solid, enthusiastic, grateful fan of Jane's. By the way, I was able to go 3 1/2 months between the first cut/color and the second, and I was getting compliments on my hair the entire time. I have medium-short hair, and have never been able to go longer than 6-7 weeks while still maintaining a good shape. Jane is a rare gem. more

Feel Like A Gilded Nightingale 3/29/2005

Grace Heaven is a jewel box--petite, precious, and perfect. Jane Webb's shop-front has all the core services that make a boutique salon worthwhile: excellent hair and color from a stylist who truly *listens* to her clients, a super-friendly but never ingratiating atmosphere, and a consistently blissful hair-washing experience. But it's the little touches and amenities that raise Grace Heaven above the rabble...nothing is careless, from the fresh flowers to the collection of homespun brooms to the rotating cast of adorable assistants, everything about Grace Heaven Salon is delightful and eclectic. I always leave with the haircut I imagined--she reads your mind--and my well-cut head swimming with essential oils, excellent conversation, and a pervasively positive attitude. You cannot go wrong. more

a great cut in comfortable sorroundings 2/18/2005

An absolutely great place.Being new to the city I was looking around for a hair salon and came across this one with some nice reviews and decided to try it out.And Yuki did a lovely job he really knows what he is doing.I get a bit intimidated walking into those big splashy salons but this is lovely a small comfortable setting that invites you to come in and relax. more

Heavenly, Graceful, The Best 12/1/2004

I am a hairstylist in the film industry, which took me to LA four years ago and created a dilemma. I now wait to have my hair colored and cut until I'm on a job in NY. I can't find anyone as good as Jane Webb. There are hairstylists and there are artists. Jane is an artist, in both cutting and color (a rarity, believe me). Fortunately, she gives a cut that will "grow in" so well I can go for as long as it takes to get back to NY. Highlights as well! I tried hairstylists in LA who were three times Jane's price and was never happy. I've sent bona fide movie stars to Jane and never worried for a moment that my reputation will be compromised. Jane's shop is a jewelbox, every detail created with the same care and talent that makes her haircuts so spectacular. Pros: beautiful, intimate, NO attidude! more

Totally gorgous 11/28/2004

I was refered by a co worker to Jane and I'm so glad that I went to see her, I was a little skeptical about herbal coloring but I decided to give it a try and see it for my self, not only am I happy with how I look but so are all of my friends and best yet is my husband who is usually oblivious to my hair complemented me for the first time in ages . Thanks to Jane for the wonderful experience and for offering a natural alternative , this place is the perfect antidote to factory assembly line hair salons. Pros: profesional, affordable, beautiful shop more

Where your self-esteem is guarantee grow 9/22/2004

It's so exciting to have finally found a place and people I can trust with my hair. Both Jane and Yuki are priceless. They're great listeners and extremely patient. Most importantly, they're incredible hairstylists. Their expertise made this girl less fearful of an experience I once likened to a visit to the dentist. Yuki gave me a hairstyle that looks better than expected. It's a look that really fits who I am. Everything about the place is relaxing and comforting--from the ambiant music to the delicious peppermint hand soap in the rest room. It's not a big joint---more than five people can make for a bit of squeeze. However, even this contributed to the whole intimate experience. Lastly, I really apprecieated that no one pressured or pushed their products on me. If there's someone to blame for the $300 hole I'm in now...it's me:). Pros: inexpensive, great hairstylists, expert advice more
