goode for waiting 10/16/2010

TERRIBLE SERVICE! Placed a ""to go"" order at the counter, which is standard operation up there. It took about 10 minutes. I proceeded to check-out at the cashier, and the Goode Co employee was placing ""to go"" orders for walk in customers from the ""check out/cashier"" area, basically letting them cut-off everyone who waited in line and ordered the correct way. I waited in line, and ordered my food the correct way and had it in my hand, and then the cashier took an order from a walk in customer for exactly what I was standing there in line trying to pay for. After she let him order, she was about to make me wait for another customer that wanted to cut in line to order their food from the cashier. The lady said I could go ahead of her because I already had my food, and the cashier apologized to her and then thanked her for being so patient, making me feel like I was the rude/impatient customer. I will never go back because of it. What a bad system they have in place more

Worst barbeque 4/18/2009

Have bought their pecan pie several times for holdiays but had never eaten there until today. It was not good. Brisket was very dry and BBQ sauce was bland. Coleslaw was really bland. Sausage was nothing spectacular. We won't be back - there is better BBQ elsewhere. Pros: Interesting atmosphere Cons: Food is bland more

Best Smoked Turkey in the city. 1/9/2009

Goode Company hands down has the best smoked turkey. It is very moist and has a great seasoning to it. Not overpowering the turkey though. The potato salad here is tasty, I like to add a little mustard and pickle to mine though because I like it tart. This location is bigger than the one located on Kirby and the atmosphere is a little more quieter. the servers are nicer here too I think. more

FANTASIC BBQ 12/16/2008

THIS PLACE RATES A 10 IN FOOD, SERVICE, PARKING, AND ATMOSHERE. HEDWIG VILLAGE ONLY. YOLANDA FROM CHILDREN'S COLLECTIONS HOSTED A CHRISTMAS PARTY AT HER HOME AND USED THIS LOCATION FOR THE FOOD. WE FORGOT THE DESERTS SO WE DROVE BACK TO TO PICK UP. Pros: BEST BBQ, BEAT JALAPENO BREAD Cons: BEST PIE more

Good selection of solid BBQ fare, plus duck! 6/27/2008

First off, I'll admit my bias: I love Texas BBQ. Given the fact that this location is very close to my house, I have dined there frequently. Honestly, I wouldn't say Goode Co's BBQ is the best I've had, but it's up there in the top 10 or so. Good enough for repeat visits, certainly. It's pretty obvious as you pull up to the place that they use red oak for their BBQ wood because it's stacked up like -- well, like cordwood -- along the exterior of the building. Red oak is a good choice, since it imparts a gentle smoke flavor to the meat. Some folks (like my wife) find mesquite overpowering, and if you're one of them, I think you'll enjoy the gentleness of oak. Pros: Just about all the traditional meats Cons: the sauce (but who needs it?) more

ALL I CAN SAY IS FAKE 3/22/2008

If you want the real thing, this isnt for you. The meat is dry and tough as if it were cooked fast. Anyone that knows bbq understans you gotta cook it slow. Sauce was horrible and sides were nothing big, lacked in flavor. Pros: friendly people Cons: very unfriendly food more

Best BBQ in Houston. Simply Goode. 3/9/2008

Kirby location is very casual with limited indoor seating. BBQ sauce is AWESOME! Very good meat - brisket, turkey, chicken and sausage. Side dishes are outstanding - jambalya, pinto beans, jalapeno cheese bread!!! I'm not a potatoe salad fan and I have not eaten the deserts. Pros: Super casual, high quality food grade, Houston's best Cons: Kirby location hs limited indoor seating more

Can't miss barbecue experience 3/21/2007

My partner insisted that I drop in on Goode's on a recent trip to Houston. Wow! he was right (and he knows his bbq). Goode's is a must stop spot for solid Texas bbq. By the time the line snakes up to the cafeteria style serving area, you've begun to relax with the beer you pulled out of the ice chest, and you're forced to make the tough decision... what meats will I eat? No doubt, you will want at least the two meat plate. I had brisket and the smoked turkey on a recent visit. The brisket was juicy, tender and offered just the right mix of smoked flavor and spice as it went down. My turkey was a bit dry, but not too dry, and I liked the mix of spices that infused it - must've been some pepper, coriander and a few other things.. The jalapeno bread surprised me at how it wasn't overwhelmingly cheesy or heavy - just the right balance to heavy bbq. The beans were good, not great, and the cole slaw was creamy and heavenly. As I tried to not drip sauce on my suit, I enjoyed looking around to see families, European visitors, cops, groups of kids, and other post-work folks all gathered around the picnic tables on a cool Houston evening. Great place, indeed. Pros: Very good bbq. Fun atmosphere. Cons: Long lines. more

If you Know what good BBQ is you know to avoid this place. 3/7/2007

Well if you have never had bbq before this place probably isnt too bad, but if you come from a city that offers great bbq like dallas or austin this place pales in comparison. The brisket is too tough, the sides are nothing special save the jalepeno bread and unfortunately all it takes is one bite of the chopped sandwich to know that this place isnt the real deal. I love taqueria and seafood but dont waste your time at BBQ unless you dont know what good BBQ is suppose to taste like. Pros: good for groups Cons: the food more

great BB-Q 12/4/2006

Goode co. has the best BB-Q in the area. the food is fresh, and the wait is short. the restaurant is a real hot spot. more

some of the best traditional barbeque in the country 11/20/2006

The sliced beef plate is melt in your mouth tender and whoaah, cowhands, the sides are every bit as delightful as the meat. Authentic old cowtown decor add interest to this award winning restaurant's ambiance. If you like good cookin', you're in the right place, Pardner! Pros: can't beat the tenderness of the meats served here Cons: some say a little pricey more

Fun atmosphere; great BBQ! 11/12/2006

The barbeque sauce at Goode Company is awesome. It could make wood taste good! It's tough to find a good table indoors, so go on a pretty day, or off-peak hours. Pros: great sauce, large portions more

Best in Texas 10/27/2006

This is the place we end up everytime the relatives come to visit for the holidays. It is by far the best bbq sauce around. My dad and brother have it on thier number 1 place to go when they come into town. more

Best BBQ! 8/7/2006

Amazing! Friendly service, cold beer and unbeatable Texas BBQ! Hard wood floors, traditional music, and fresh baked jalapeno bread. Pros: excellent sauce, quick service, unbeatable quality food Cons: seating is limited inside at kirby but when it's nice it's perfect outside more

Houston's Number One 'Cue 6/24/2006

As a Dallasite who travels to Houston very often, this is usually the first restaurant I stop at. I mean, how many other barbecue places do you know of happen to serve jambalaya and jalapeno cheese bread? Their meats are very tasty and well-smoked. They have good sauce, but you don't really need sauce on THIS 'cue! The potato salad they have is far and away the best. Of the two locations in town, I recommend the Katy Freeway location because the seating is less cramped. I could eat here sixteen times a week and never get tired of it! This has to be one of the top five barbecue joints in the state of Texas. Don't miss this place if you're from out of town. Pros: Excellent smoked meats and sides, cheese bread loaves to go, great value Cons: Tight parking at both locations, not enough locations more

Delicious Texas Barbeque 1/12/2006

Delicious meats, sauces & sides. Absolutely LOVE the sausage, turkey sausage & brisket. Baked beans have a hearty smoky flavor, love the flavorful potato salad. I do wish they had more (don't laugh) lower fat sides (mixed veggies, baked potatoes?) but I manage happily without! I'm not a big fan of the spicy pork OR the cornbread, I've had better. I've never had room enough to try the pies but I dig the fact that I've been here around Thanksgiving to see that they have ""drive through pies"", with cars pulling up and taking their choice of apple, pumpkin &/or pecan pies without leaving the comfort of their cars! Gotta love Texas! It can get crowded in the dining room & sometimes there's a line, but it's all worth it. Pros: Sauce, Meats, Sides Cons: Can get crowded, Wish more sides more

Best BBQ in the WORLD!!!! 4/24/2005

Yeah, they have a 'carport' but it is full of benches and wonderful people who keep it very clean. There is indoor seating as well but very crowded and limited. The BBQ is the best anywhere and I have been to Kansas City. The sauce is excellent and not full of cheap vinegar filler like most other BBQ joints. Brisket, jalepeno sausage, duck and turkey are some of the best items and the jalepeno bread is divine. Traditional sides of pinto beans, coleslaw and potato salad are excellent. It is so good you can even take home some of the rubs, BBQ sauces and cookbooks to try at home,. If carports are not your thing the I-10 location has full indoor dining and only 6 miles away or you can phone in an order and take it home. Oh yeah! DO NOT MISS THE PECAN PIE!!!!!! Pros: Brisket, Sauce, Pecan Pie Cons: Crowd more

Its just great 7/22/2003

I really like the food here. The sliced beef sandwich on cheese jalapeno bread was so good, that I bought a loaf to take back to NY with me. Pros: brisket, sauce, bread more

Don't waste your time 4/7/2003

Best thing about Goode Company is the hype. In the bottom 10% of BBQ joints in Houston. If sitting under a carport (in Houston weather) eating substandard BBQ is your idea of a good time, go for it. Goode has done a great job with his seafood and I highly recommend going there, and it's only a couple of blocks away. Sorry Goode, but I just gotta tell the truth. Pros: Hype, Location Cons: Meat, Sauce, Flies in the carport more

The funky older building has limited seating inside, but that's OK. It's more fun to grab your tray from the cafeteria-style line and head for the many picnic tables lined up...
