Great hamburger and best chili in town 2/14/2010

I was shocked to read the negative reviews. My wife and I ate there for lunch today and had one of the best burgers in town. We also tried the venison chili and it was great-the real thing. I make one of the best pots of chili around and this was good! The chili is made from axis deer and is very tasty. Pros: Awesome atmosphere, great food and service more

Don't Schedule Events Here! 11/13/2009

We had booked the entire restaurant for 80+ guests months in advance of the event, but when reconfirming a month prior to the dinner, they claimed they could not honor the booking to close the restaurant down, but would only ""rope off"" an area or give us the patio (right by Kirby Drive!!!), as the manager who booked the dinner was no longer employed there. No apologies, no remorse, extremely rude and arrogant about it. Fortunately we were able to secure a fabulous location and caterer so the event turned out even better. Guess they didn't mind losing the business. PS I was required to give at least one star rating - my preference would be NO stars. Cons: Reneged on Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Booking more

hates black people, serves fake jack daniels 3/10/2009

staff very rude. they serve all the white customers over others. door guy and valet were rude. its sad in this day and age a place is around with such hate towards minoritys. fake jake daniels is served its not real either is the goose or patron. Pros: nothing Cons: doesnt like black people more

AWESOME Ambiance 1/23/2009

The food is pretty good, but Goode Company BBQ is right across the parking lot, and I rather thier food, but the after hours at The Armadillo is great! Good beer, good people, GREAT music! It feels like it a small town beer house, in the middle of a big city. I love it! Pros: Beer, music, social Cons: Parking!!! more

Spotty 7/26/2008

I have only been to the Armadillo Palace when the bands are playing, so I can't speak for lunch or dinner, but the service is pretty spotty at night. Sometimes you can get your drinks quickly - sometimes not. I once sat at the bar with a $20 in my hand for about 15 minutes waiting for someone to ask me what I wanted. And I've had other people's drinks added to my tab when I sat at a table. Pros: food is pretty good Cons: service is usually slow and indifferent more

Best live music in Houston!!! 3/25/2008

Armadillo Palace is awesome! Had never been here before last week when some friends talked me into going after the rodeo. The band was great and it's just such a fun place. Great crowd! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a fun, laid-back place without all they typical Houston ""see and be seen"" nonsense... more

haphazard service 6/15/2006

The food was fine, but I was with a large group, and a couple of the meal orders got mixed up, my meal was skipped altogether, and we had trouble all night to get more beers. (Tea replenishing was efficient, though.) Our bill on leaving had a couple of desserts which had never arrived, but the last straw was when the valet parkers lost my ticket and then could not find my car, and I had to go walk to the lot, use my extra key to get the number off the dashboard, come back for keys, and then retrieve the car. Probably 25-30 minutes for this fiasco. more

waitstaff unhappy 6/13/2006

Like this place but the waitstaff are miserable. If not busy they seem to sulk, I even asked the girl why she was not smiling and she said it was slow and she needed to make $$$. Give me a break. Music is fun. more

BEEF TONGUE 7/23/2005

The food is really good. However, there is some deception buried in the menu. After my friend and I received a load of beef tongue empanadas, I questioned the waitress, who condescendingly stated that ""Entomatadas"" means ""Beef Tongue"". Not true - it means ""with tomatoes"", and overall I don't really like to eat tongue with the tastebuds still attached. Also, there were no tomatoes involved. I was told ""most people know this""...which I seriously doubt. Be wary of this dish - otherwise, go there try just about anything else and you'll be happy. more

Really good, for what it intends to be 6/23/2005

It's wierd giving HR ratings to a place that is basically a ""Saloon"", but this place is just damn good at what it is. The burgers and chicken fingers and chili are top notch (I think they smoke the chicken a little before they fry it up - and the chili is made with venison). Nobody does this kind of thing better than Jim Goode. more
