Good Neighbor Pizzeria

This place seems to be packed a lot but we were not impressed. The crust was overdone, sauce wasn't super flavorful and overall it wasn't that great. Plus it's not incredibly cheap so I would skip it. more

Good Neighbor Pizzeria: If you're into spending a-lot of dough on a lousy undercooked ( we tried it twice just to make sure ) pie then you've found thee place!!! First off the bartender needs his grill adjusted... He's a cocky little twat that I'd personally fold-into a postcard if I didn't live in the *Neighbor* hood. Secondly a large pizza with 4 topping drained $35 with a tip ( never again ) from my bank account!!! The pie was undercooked and soggy, the sauce came out of a can, the large undercooked pie had 3 inches of crust before you got close to seeing a topping. We ordered a large pizza with basil, mushrooms, spinach, and sausage. The mushrooms tasted like cork, the basil and spinach looked like someone had salvaged it from a horses feed bag. The dough looked like it came from an albino hairless rat, the sausage kibble or kibbled sausage reminded me of the Iams chipped beef dog food. It's a shame that Good Neighbor Pizzeria has a inept staff, El Dooche for a bartender, and lousy food. I live within blocks of the place and will NEVER spend another dime there because of the attitude and the crappy overpriced food. Pros: None Cons: Pizza is over-priced and under-cooked. The pizza here is awesome. Definitely on par with Bella Faccia. The crust is super thin and tasty. The cheese was good quality and all melty and delicious. Decent beer selection. Courteous staff, very pleasant easy going. Seriously good pizza. I had to stop by Bella Faccia and grab a slice immediately afterward to make sure they were still my fave (Bella rocks, and they still are). I love this pizza place, it's become part of the weekly rotation. My boyfriend and I love the fresh ingredients & delicious crust. The live music is awesome.....dj's to live bands. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

The calzone is fantastic, the pizza is good and the beer on tap is always good. But the service... why is it so bad? I mean this is really an open letter to the owner of this place. I live 4 blocks away and have been in at least 10 times and the services is just unbelievably bad... i mean its never good... The staff is not mean, they are just aloof, rude, or more interested in talking to there friends (offend a problem) . It once took 20 minutes for the employee to come over and take our drink order... And we really wished she would have taken our food order as well because it took another 20 minutes for her to pour our two beers... To boot there were perhaps 5 other people in the restaurant (dead honest, i'm not making up those numbers). Please do something to fix your staff issues or hire people who have a clue about customer service. I would love to come to your establishment, but as it stands my friends all ways say ""lets just order from sparky's its not as good bue at least we can eat today"". Please, Please, Please work on your services, you could be getting so much more business. I have talked to 3 of my neighbors who have had the same experience. I mean its a nice business... perhaps improve the service and put up a sign saying ""now offering customer service!"" then i know i can return. Seriously, very impressed with the thin crust euro style pizza and choices of toppings. Kudos for the local and organic ingredients. Place is a great bonus to the NoPo hood, and the bar and space are welcoming esp. on warm nights when the garage is open. I could have made a meal out the garlic knots alone. I've given this place three chances and each time the expirience gets worse. The first time the pizza was wrong. Second time the pizza was barely warm. The last time I ate there I ordered a 1/2 & 1/2 pizza. One half was a $32 pizza and the other 1/2 was a $23 pizza. When the bill came I was charged $32 -the price of the most expensive 1/2. I ask the server why and her answer was a shrug and ' that's the way the owner wants it'. When I pushed further that the pricing doesn't make sense she again shrugged and said 'that's the way it is'. This place has so much potential. The pizza is pretty good, although I think the crust is not the best. Its the service that really ruins this place. There's always an excuse for something. The service here is not exactly rude, just kind of nonexistent. It seems the owner wants a casual, hangout for his friends to spin music (yes, theres a dj-does that get you running away, or what?) and he doesnt care if anyone else shows up. If you do show up, you must be patient; something will go wrong. Whether its a burnt pizza, a 20 minute wait to order due to the one server delivering a pizza, or a $6.00 overcharge for dinner, you will leave irritated and annoyed. The laissez faire attitude is keeping this place from being a good neighbor and I would not recommed it. The food and service were terrible. The pizza was cold and when I asked the waiter or manager to warm it up he was just plain rude. He acted as though this not so unusual request was personal. He asked if we liked the pizza. I told him we would like it better if it was heated. The guy took off and didn't return. We waited about twenty minutes and left. We had to go somewhere else for dinner. Going tot this place was a waste of time and a total imposition. We won't be back. Pros: There was a wide screen TV Cons: Cold pizza. Attitude! I went to the Good Neighbor Pizzeria almost immediately after they opened at about 2:30pm. The piece of pizza I had was absolutely the best I had ever had. The crust was crunchy and the ingredients local. About a week later I ordered two pieces to go. When I got home they were steamed or something. All wet and limp. Disgusting! So I went back to the restaurant and told the guy about it and he said the veggies would cause it to do that. He doesn't have an oven that I could see up front - looks like a large microwave. Nevertheless, I told him I was willing to give him another chance and ordered two more slices. He said he would get the bill. I had to ask him three times not to microwave them but to just give them to me and I'd put them in my oven at home. He got all indignant. Very snotty!!! He said, Well, I'm so happy you're giving us ANOTHER chance"" but he said it very snotty and unbelievably rude! He gave me the slices along with a bill for 6 dollars so I just left. It was a pretty bad experience and I won't go back. I'm not used to being treated like that. The guy got all weird like he was on something and his eyes looked like they were going to pop out of his head. I think if you go there it would have to be right after they open otherwise everything gets cold and he tries to steam or microwave them back to life. This was one of the two best pizzas I've had in Portland, the other being at Apizza Scholl's. The difference here is that you don't have to wait over an hour for a table. If you come during normal dinner time, the service is great, later at night they have bands, open mic, etc, which isn't my thing. Pros: fantastic food, friendly service Cons: far from where I live, kind of in an ""out there"" neighborhood, hopefully they will be successful and open more locations more

Good neighborhood hangout and fun open mic night...however the service is really spotty when it starts getting busy - it's really hard to get anyone's attention even with a large group! The pizza is good, but I had expected a lot more after reading about the local ingredients, etc. Restaurants come and go and if they want this one to last they need to focus on what brings people back - good food and good service. Guess I'd just say that I'll be back, but only because there's not a better hangout within walking distance...?
