Golden Scissors

I went to Golden Scissors based on the recommendation from a close friend who has been getting her hair done there for many years, along with her mother and sister. They must have had better experiences than I did. The customer service was mediocre at best. My stylist spent more time talking to the other stylists than to me. She did a great job on the cut, but my color was a LOT lighter than what I asked for - and she took the foils off the first time she checked them and afterwards my hair felt dry and damaged (that was the second time in a year my hair had been colored or blow-dried - there was no pre-existing damage). I don't think she checked it soon enough. The cut was great - definitely the best part of my experience and the only reason for the second star. When I went to pay, I mentioned the special advertised on their website where a new customer gets a discount in addition to the person who referred them. On the website, it states ""In order to thank our established clientele, we would like to offer them $20.00 off their next service for EACH adult friend or family member they refer to our salon ($10 for men). There is no maximum discount for this offer. Please make sure the new client communicates the use of this offer to her stylist and/or receptionist AND let that person know who referred her at the time of service. We'll also extend a 25% discount to the NEW client for their first visit. We sincerely appreciate our clients for their referrals. This offer is not available on Saturdays."" I had communicated this to my stylist as well as the receptionist. The receptionist checked with someone and I was informed that I needed to show them a special referral card. I told her that I did not believe the website stated the need for a referral card and I was dismissed with, ""Oh, the website hasn't been updated in a really long time."" I was charged full price. (And I was there on a weekday, not a Saturday.) I did not press the issue at the time in case I had misread the special on the website so I went home, checked it again, and found I was correct. I called the salon and was told the owners were both busy and would call me back, which they never did. To me this is false advertising - dishonest and just bad business. I will not be going back to the salon and I will not recommend it to anyone else. more

Terrible experience. My scalp is burned from the blow dryer and my hair is in far worse shape than it was when I went in. I have been growing my hair out for locks of love and went in for a trim, the lady cutting my hair took over 7 inches off with out my permission and set me back at least a year for my donation. Not to mention the fact that the cut isn't straight or flattering in any way. I have spent the rest of the day crying and will have to wear a hat until the whole mess grows out. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this salon to ANYONE. more

When I decided to become one of the best bearded Santa in the Business..I knew who I had to go see before I thew away my Designer wig and beard s.I hoped into MY Sleigh and FLEW to see Joyce, and Sharron !I told them of my plans,and dreams , but I only wanted to work toward this goal if they agreed to be my Hair dressers! Joyce agreed...and the rest is History. This job requires a lot of things....but one of the the TOP TWO is how Beautiful and healthy my hair always appears ....and These two ladies make me look like It is December 24th EVERY DAY!!I I have the Build and personalty of Saint Nick...now thanks to my Elf Joyce I have the look too. People stop me and ,compliment my hair Every day, I Always laugh to myself because there is always an Audience when I am in the Salon. Some of the clients talk to me while I am getting My hair fixed , and some just stare in Amazement.I guess they never think that Santa has to go to the Hair dresser to always look nice. This Santa will only go to the very best in the Business.!!!! Please understand if Joyce, and Sharron can do this for an Old man, with white hair , whiskers and a fat jolly belly.II can only think what they can do for you. I was SO impressed with the service and the wonderful haircut that I received from Christopher. He listened carefully for what I was looking for, and told me exactly how to blow dry and style my new cut. Kudos!! I have been to hundreds of stylists over the years, but have never been 100% happy with my cut and color till I found Andrew at Golden Scissors. I have naturally curly hair with bright orange undertones, a nightmare for the best of stylists. When I sat down with Andrew he listened to what I was looking for, natural highlights without the brassy color and an easy to style cut. The end result was PERFECT. This salon is great. One stylist especially, Jackie. She is awesome! She does great color and knows what she's doing. I walked in wanting a complete change and she knew what she was doing and gave me exactly what I wanted. I used to get highlights , which she was awesome at! If you need a flat iron definitely ask her her, she gets it perfect,, even with my impossible hair. Definitely go to Jackie! more

I have been a regular at Golden Scissors for well over ten years. I have naturally curly hair and could not find ANYONE who could cut my hair in a good style. I am only writing because there are other reviews of this salon that are negative, and I want to say I have been to a number of salons and hair stylists trying to find the right one, and Chris is it!! He is knowledgeable, talented, has a sense of humor, and deserves kudos for his ability to match the hairstyle with the person. There was three and a half hours spent on my hair. For a partial highlight which only consisted the top of my hair. They burned every strand of hair they highlighted! The color was a whitish ugly gray! It's a disaster, I had no choice but to cut my hair. I cried the whole night. They made an appointment for me to go in and get it died the next day. When I got there and sat in the chair. She said to me, ""you know you're going to have to pay for us to dye it back."" They must be out of their mind to think. I would give them more business after their first disaster. If anything they should pay me my money back for their disgusting work! Then as they saw I was getting up to leave. The boss came up to me and said, ""it's not our problem your hair is damaged!"" I specifically asked her, ""will my hair get damaged if we do this?"" ""Her answer was no it should be good."" As a stylist I took her advice to heart. They gave me no discount for screwing my hair the hell up! I payed 90 dollars to have them fry my hair and waste half of my day and money! The smartest thing I did. Walk straight to Tony & Guy which is located in the same mall North Point. They dyed my hair back just the way I like it. I only spent $60 which was worth every cent! I got great customer service and phenomenal work! Stay away from Golden Scissors if you love your hair as much as I did! They don't even have a corporate you could call in to let them know what's going on in that zoo. Basically if you're screwed you're screwed. Goodluck! I have been going to The Golden Scissors for about a year now, and have received consistantly excellent service. I've seen three different hair stylists, and all of them did a wonderful job. One stylist, Shelly, did a particularly nice job. The staff seems knowledgable and friendly, and the secretary is always smiling. Here you have good stylest and bad ones, I went there lady was rude told me that ""If my daughter had a knot in her hair like that id shave her hole head, and well i think we should just cut it out there even no use in trying! Well Then she got the out in less than a minute! However my mom gose there and loves it! She has this hair stylst and says shes great , Im still thinking about going back, however i dont think i will!( my moms hair did look just barely ok) To sum it up some are nice, some are extremly rude, some do your hair great, some do it horrible! I have been a customer since 1993. I went into the salon on a recommendation from my roommate who referred me to Andrew . I had long hair, with a very outdated style but I was nervous about picking something out of a magazine. I told Andrew about my fears and he said don't worry, "" I will just take off some length and put in some layers that complement your facial shape"". And what do you know, that is exactly what he did! Like I said that was 13 years ago and I am still a very satisfied customer. The Golden Scissors cares about their customers. Andrew and Michael care about giving quality hair cuts and color that is in line with todays styles and setting new trends on the Northside. Education is a top priority; they travel to the hair shows twice a year to make sure they are keeping up with what the latest trends are. Do yourself a favor and call and make an appointment, you will not be disappointed. They make sure of that! I have been going to Andrew at Golden Scissors, literally, for 10 years. I was so shocked by the bad review on this site that I felt compelled to add my own (I was just being lazy, not finding my GS card I keep in my wallet and looked up the number by google and stumbled on the review) I have had every hair cut and color in the past 10 years (from short stacked bob to long chunky layers, blondey-blonde to dark brown/black hair I dyed myself and luckily he fixed for me...never do that again!) and Andrew has done a wonderful job. I came home from my cut and full high lights yesterday and my husband said it was my best hair cut ever! Huge from a husband of many years. I have to say, Andrew has NEVER given me a haircut I did not want or ask for. In fact, one time, years ago I wanted a horrible new ""trendy"" do and he thought it was not a great idea. I begged, pleaded and after asking 3 times (he had me do that as he did not want to do the cut) He did it. He was right! It was not the look for me. He did exactly as I asked. Shortly thereafter, he fixed it, but he was right. I now trust him completely. Yesterday we cut 7 inches off my hair. I wanted shorter, he suggested ""let's try this, we can always take off more"" He was right again. I love it. The color is perfect. I am a LOYAL 10 year customer. I would highly recommend for cut, color, everything. I have also been going long enough that I would feel comfortable going to Mike, Andrew's brother as well. I have been lucky that Andrew has ALWAYS been able to squeeze me in, but I would feel very comfortable going to Mike, as I have seen his work over the years. Can not recommend highly enough. This salon is absolutely the worst in Alpharetta, Atlanta even. Michael is a nice guy, but a horrible hairstylist, his brother Andrew is even worse, with attitude to boot. I have been there twice and both times was very unhappy, my fault for going back the second time. If you want a bad cut go to Golden Scissors in Northpoint Mall, otherwise the Hair Cuttery gives a better cut and service. That is only if you are wanting to get what you pay for. I went to Golden Scissors at North Point Mall for the first time yesterday and enjoyed the best hair service of my life. I had been to many other salons in Atlanta, but had not found what I was looking for until now. Michael and I had a wonderful consultation and he then proceded to do to my hair exactly what we discussed. He really brought me into the 21st century with an exceptional up-to-date total look. I went to one of the owners of Golden Scissors and he messed up my hair verrrrrrrry badly. I walked out with a mullet when all I wanted was the same cut as I had before just trimmed up a little. Micheal was my hairdresser and he ruined my hair FOREVER! When I lifted my hair in the back, during styling I had horrible spots of uncolored hair. Golden Scissors was horribly dirty and outdated. This is the best place. They were very eager to please and did a wonderful job. Andrew. my stylist, was amazing! I came in there with a extremely bad haircut and color done by a another hair salon. And he fixed the cut and color and never in my life have I had such a fantastic cut. And the higligts were super!I even had my daughter whit me and they worked her in to get a cut for her and it too was great. Thanks to all the people there. You have made me a life long client!!
