Best

I gotta disagree with the negative postings... the food is awesome. Anyone who appreciates indian food would love coming here. The cocktails were inexpensive and the mango martini...

meh. Not the best food, but definitely not the best. Showed up quick and the guy was well dressed. We had a somewhat awkward moment when we both looked deep into each others eyes. I asked him to come in for a beer, he said no. So moral of the story is not to look delivery guys in the eyes. more

Okay Indian Food, Don't Order Extra Rice 7/1/2010

We tried out this restaurant because it was close to our hotel in the Financial District. The service was great, and our waiter was very attentive. We started with the veggie samosas which nice and hot. Between us we ordered sag goshi, chicken vindaloo, bengan bartha, and spinach naan. The dinner was served with two small dishes of rice which we assumed came with the dinner, since rice has been included in the price of every other meal I've ever had at Indian restaurants in my home town. The rice for the dinner cost $12. Ask them not to bring rice, because the rice was not worth $12. The vindaloo had taste but not a lot of heat. Even if you specify spicy, be warned that this dish may not contain the kick you're expecting from a vindaloo. The other dishes were good, but nothing could really offset the fact that we just paid $12 for rice. Other than feeling overcharged for the rice, the rest of the evening was pleasant enough. Again, don't expect a lot of heat on the vindaloo, but the food is otherwise well prepared and presented. Pros: Nice atmosphere & polite staff Cons: They charge for the rice more

What's the big deal? 8/30/2009

Disappointing for one of the few Indian places in the Financial District. Pros: Near Financial District Cons: Over priced (for quality), poor selection buffet, subpar food more

Zagat should reconsider their ratings for this restaurant! 5/31/2008

After one of those long cold days in san francisco, i was expecting to have some hot spicy indian food. I had to wait to be seated, the hostess was an indian lady who seemed very confused as to where to seat me which took more than five minutes. The food was mediocre, but i didn't know that human hair was a part of the ingredients. when i brought it to their attention, they told me they will make me a fresh one but i am pretty sure they just threw the hair out as it still contained the meat that i had partly cut. On top of that the owner of the restaurant kept bothering us with his appearances and his lengthy life stories. You decide. Pros: parking/atmosphere Cons: everything else more

Blandest Indian Food 1/21/2008

What a waste of a cab ride. I was really looking forward to some great indian food, especially since thise was rated by Zagat. But I was disappointed. There was just no spice or flavor to the whole meal. The server didn't even bother to ask how spicy we wanted our dishes. The lamb samosa was dry and crumbly, the masala and bhana was mediocre. The only thing I enjoyed was the wine and the honey ball dessert. The host and server were friendly and prompt but I don't think I would go back...the food is just to bland. Pros: Nice hostess and server Cons: Bland bland bland food more

Greasy, pricey and sub par. Hair in your food is complimentary 7/3/2007

I ate at this place admittedly a year ago but my dismal experience is still fresh in my memory. I heard they may have remodeled the place since I went but I think this is still worth a read. Just goes to show what kind of establishment this is... Pros: the view? Cons: food, service, hair in my food, stank atmosphere more

eh, ok I guess 3/18/2007

The curry was just OK, smelt better from outside and bizarrely all the curries we ordered were sweet. I'd go back, but not in a hurry. Staff were friendly. more

Not the place if you want to try Indian food. 3/9/2007

For the price for buffett, they have very little options and the deserts were no were close to being Indian. Either the chef doesn't know or doesn't care. Pros: It is in the city Cons: Food is not worth the money (esp. the Tandoori, rice and the desserts) more

Ugh! What a rip-off 12/22/2006

After reading the mixed reviews we decided to give this restaurant a try. Big mistake. We ordered our meal, specifically requesting the entrees extra hot. We also ordered 2 beers. The beers didn't come with the appetizer, and when the main course came, we again requested them. Perhaps they'd forgotten? The rice that always accompanies the food was spooned onto our plates by the waiter. We immediately noticed that it was approximately 4 forkfulls for each of us. What we ordered as extra spicy was extra mild. No flavor, let alone hot. Plus, the portions were tiny, to boot. The waiter came around and we complained about the spiciness not being there. He took back our meals and a few minutes later they were back, with cayenne added to them. For hot food to be properly hot it has to be cooked with the peppers; not have peppers added at the end, else the flavors don't blend. This was the case with this meal. Flavorless, but hot. The rice quickly ran out and we asked for more. When the bill came we'd been charged for 2 plates of rice at $4.75 each. Never in our lives had we been charged $9.50 for the plain rice that accompanies our meals! We decided that covered most of the tip. You are better off searching online for a good curry recipe than wasting your time and money at Gaylord. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Price, service, food quality more

I love Gaylord's! 6/6/2006

I came here for the first time when I was 13 and thought it was magical. There were a number of kids there obviously going to prom, the view was great, and the service and food were excellent. I've been back 3-4 times since, and have always been treated with the utmost respect. the last time I was there was on my birthday. We were seated near a table with kids having a melt-down. The staff all hurried to move us to a great table. I think the food is great - love the pappadam and naan. I don't know why this restaurant doesn't receive more attention! Go Gaylord's! Pros: Sweet service, good food, stellar view Cons: A bit $$ more

give it a go! 4/9/2006

I gotta disagree with the negative postings... the food is awesome. Anyone who appreciates indian food would love coming here. The cocktails were inexpensive and the mango martini went particularly well with the food. Gotta say tho, bland indian food is kind of an oxymoron... And this place doesn't serve anything that doesn't excite the mouth. Pros: service, ambience, romantic Cons: parking more

Not so good... 9/14/2005

My fiance and I love Indian Food & we like to try new places all the time. The staff here is sooooo friendly and nice BUT the food is sooooo bland and tasteless. We are veggies so it could just be the vegetarian dishes. The papadum wasn't very good either and the Mango Lassi was just ""eh"". Also, for Indian it was a bit more expensive than usual or should I say than it was worth. I left with a yuck feel and I was upset that we had wasted our money on such funky Indian food. If you don't like taste and spice and yumminess then sure, try this spot. Pros: nice people, prompt seating, pretty atmosphere Cons: bland food more

yes please! 9/11/2005

My first time dining here was a wonderful experience. The staff is very friendly, attentive, and helpful. I had chicken, vegetables, rice, naan, and the Taj Mahal beer. All the dishes were delicious and rich. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes Indian food and I would definitely come here again. Pros: great service more

Enjoyable eating 6/9/2005

I rarely leave a review for a resturant. However, after my dinner at Gaylord's resturant I have got to leave some kind of review. My wife and I visited there and from the very beginning we felt treated with high honor. We are young and don't look like we have very much money. We even used my marin express card but that didn't sway their treatment of us. Sometimes I bring out my express card and get treated poorly from then on. However, here we both truly felt like we were among friends. The manager even visited us a couple times with his reccomendations and inquiry of our stay. I most definatly will return. Oh, and by the way... I have been to India and tasted the food there. The food at Gaylords was the best Indian food I have had in a long time. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Treatment Cons: parking more

not bad 7/21/2003

Good food, friendly staff, great Himalayan Blue beer, and inexpensive. more

not good! 5/19/2003

lunch buffet is not worth the price! more expensive than any other indian buffet in the city, the buffet has limited selection, and the food has no flavor. Pros: not crowded Cons: expensive, bland more

Lunch Buffet is good 3/12/2003

It's not the best indian food I've had but, the price & service are very good. Pros: inexpensive lunch, staff, nice decor Cons: parking more
