Unless you get your jollies from squeezing through teeny rooms overcrowded with psuedo-antique furniture and putting up with what has to be THE rudest A**hole of a proprietor you've ever had the displeasure of meeting, don't bother. The shops are depressing and so dark you wonder what he's hiding. The furniture is boring and uninspired, mostly oak (snore) and priced at about 3 times the value, especially in today's market. This company has been in the area for some time now and once had a great reputation for quality, but no more. And judging from the shopkeeper's snotty attitude, he's unhappy about business. Although one would think he would welcome his customers with opened arms. Instead he makes people feel like they are intruding on his day. It was pouring rain the day we went and as soon as we entered his store, I closed and clutched my umbrella against my leg to keep it from dripping anywhere. That wasn't good enough. This man flies over and tells us in a most sarcastic tone that he has all real wood furniture and doesn't want it damaged with drops from my umbrella. Oh really? You have REAL wood? Wow! He interrupted me while I was in the process of showing an item I had an interest in to my husband to share this tidbit of wisdom with me. That erased my interest in that item or anything else he may have had hidden there in his dark store. Anyone with one iota of business sense would be able to tell by my demeanor and the way I was hugging the umbrella allowing it to soak my pant leg to prevent getting any water on his precious oak furniture that I was a careful and considerate shopper. Don't bother to welcome me into the store or ask me if you can take my umbrella. Oh no, that would be too proper. Instead, tell me how water might dot your furniture and make sure you interrupt me admiring an item so that you can positively not make a sale this day. A nice antique umbrella store at the entry would work wonders if they bother you that much. It is Florida and it does rain every day. Oh, and don't bother going there if you have children either unless they don't mind being glared at. One poor family stopped their browsing quite quickly and chose to go stand outside waiting for the rain to stop so they could leave. They told us he made them so uncomfortable because he was obviously unhappy they brought in their little girl - a darling little thing who was too small to do any damage and as sweet as can be. The only fun you'll have at this shop is laughing at his ridulous prices, but really you have better things to do. Try the shops in Sarasota and Bradenton for your antiques. Oh, and St. Petersburg has a couple of absolutely marvelous shops with such interesting items, not just oak furniture. Gag. My husband and I fill our days looking for antiques for our home. We will never darken the doors of this already too dark and pitiful has-been establishment again. In this economy, we'll give our money to someone who is nice and deserves to do well.
