First of all, if you don't want a freaking tiny booth, which by the way they aren't tiny, then be smart enough to call in ahead of time and make reservations!!! Idiots!!! I've bee...

Worst

This is not the american diner I expected--no grilled cheese, blt, etc. Instead, it is overpriced diner nuevo. $7 tortilla soup? $8 side salad? The food is good, but expensive. Se...

Historical location ... 6/10/2006

If you read the history of the Mitchell Brothers ("Behind the Green Door") you'll note that the Fog City Diner is instrumental in their lives when they filmed the sequel with a friend of theirs. It's worth stopping in just for the "historical" value ... more

Fog City Diner 5/21/2006

If there was any place I could have a booth inscribed with my name denoting me as a legendary regular, it would be Fog City Diner. Ok, so I’m going to have to bump up my income to get this lofty station in life, but until then, it’s a nice dream. Price aside, I could eat here all the time. There’s a haut cuisine aspect to the food (like chipotles in the ketchup) but, at the same time, it’s still ketchup. They’re very good at balancing homey diner food with fancy, special touches that make coming here a truly unique experience, no matter what you order. Come for lunch and it's actually not that expensive for a sandwich... more

Made My Day 3/9/2006

I had breakfast with some friends here. We were visiting for the day to attend a function. I brought my daughter and we ate the best eggs, potatoes, salad and toast. The coffee perked me right up and it was a really warm and friendly experience. Going to this restaurant set me up for a perfect day in the City. This restaurant is very comforting, relaxing and fulfilling. I'd go back any day I am in the City. more

Fog City - A Hip, Fun Place - Definitely Worth a Visit 12/15/2005

Made famous by the "they don't take American Express" commercial, this chrome and neon eatery actually serves interesting food in a cool shiny metal envelope. As soon as you walk in, you can feel the buzz - exciting people are here to fuel their extra-ordinary lives. The service is friendly and you can actually ask your server for advice and get a thoughtful answer (not something I generally expect from my native east-coasters). Despite their reputation for good fish, I had steak and fries. Happy to report, the beef was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. I washed it all down with a milk shake and then bought a Fog City Diner cap on my way out. Yeah, I'm a tourist. A lot of places like this are all about the atmosphere and leave the food on the back burner (no pun intended). The Fog City Diner breaks that mold and I recommend that you give it a shot. To walk off your meal, cross the street and find the stairway to heaven that climbs all the way up to Coit Tower. Breathtaking views (pun intended) for people with good shoes and a half-way decent cardio vascular system. more

good dinner 11/9/2005

a friend took me here for dinner. the restaurant itself is beautiful.. feels like you go back in time. nice decorations. service is good...serves mainly seafood.. real good, and not too expensive for SF standard. we were full so we didn't get to try dessert, which was a bummer. they had pretty good selections. next time we will make sure we make room for dessert more
