I'm certain that most moves go smoothly. It's a moving company and that what they do. But I think what sets apart a professional company from just another company is how they deal with difficulties and problems. This is a story of my move. use my review for what it is and make your own decision. If i could give a negative feed back, I would.\r

Clearly, my experience with flat rate moving company was not a positive one. it was probably one of the worse experience in moving that i've experienced to date. I scheduled a move with flat rate at the end of June from NYC to MD - scheduled to start at 9 am. The crew arrived around 4 pm and the move was started. Below is a summary of the conservation, not in exact verbatim.\r
\r
1st phone call - 8 30 am: \r
FR: ""the driver called in sick. we are looking for a replacement driver... etc."" \r
OK. that happens. \r
\r
2nd phone call 9:30 am: \r
FR: ""your crew will be there in 1 hour."" OK. all is well, so I thought...\r
\r
3rd phone call 1100 am: \r
ME - ""where is the crew?"" \r
FR - ""they will be there in 1 hour or so. sorry for the delay.""\r
\r
4th phone call 12:30 pm: \r
ME - ""where is the crew?"" \r
FR -""they will be there in an hour or so."" \r
ME - ""you've been saying that since 9:30 am!"" \r
FR - ""sorry for the delay. we will give you a credit of $100 for your inconvenience."" \r
me -""you guys found the driver, right? I still need to move today. when are they coming?"" \r
FR - ""let me check and I will give you a call in 15 minutes."" \r
- NO FR follow up call.\r
\r
5th phone call 1:45 pm: \r
ME - ""Where if the crew?!"" \r
FR - ""sorry for the delay. the crew is on their way."" \r
ME (angry by this point) - ""You guys have been lying to me/wife regarding this whole issue. did you find a replacement driver?"" \r
FR - ""the crew is on their way."" \r
ME - ""That is a lie! We've been told that a crew is on their way since 9:30 am."" \r
FR - ""sir, we are not lying to you."" \r
ME - ""I tell you what, this is what has happened. you did not find a replacement driver. I am waiting for a crew from another job who has not completed their work, right?"" \r
FR -""Yes, that is correct."" \r
ME -""So, when are they coming.\r
FR - ""They will be there in an hour.""\r
ME -"" yeah right.""\r
\r
6th phone call 250 pm:\r
ME -""I'm still waiting?""\r
FR - ""sorry for the delay. we will offer you another $200 credit.\r
ME - ""I don't care about the money. I need to move today.\r
FR- ""let me check with my supervisor. (minutes later) Sir, I don't know if we can move you today. could we reschedule your move for tomorrow? We will offer you considerable discount?""\r
ME -""WTF are you talking about?! this is a breach of contract. my lease ran out today and i have a rental car. are you going to pay my rent and for my rental car expense? I need to move today.""\r
\r
etc.... I don't think I need to prolong this but I think you guys got the picture.\r
so, eventually FR came around 4 pm after much more yelling and screaming over the phone. two apartments moved from NYC to MD.\r
\r
Flatrate wasn't our first choice since I was getting my moved paid for from my new job. but they were available on the date that I wanted to move. \r
\r
I haven't seen the $300 credit after 3 wks. they actually over charged me for the move, which was just amazing. I spoke with an eager customer service agent to whom I told the story. they have the phone conversations on tape but she hasn't review them. she said she will follow up with me regarding my complaint/issues during the move but haven't heard from them in 3 wks. \r
\r
Good luck choosing your moving company. even though flat rate is cheaper compared to others, I'm going with a more reputable companies in the future and will be happy to pay the extra $$. \r
