Thank you BAVS for saving my dog...again. We took him here 9 years ago to get a cast when he broke his leg as a puppy.
Woke up early Saturday morning and my dog could not get up and he would cry out everytime he tried but we couldn't figure out why. As the morning progressed he began having seizures which had become more violent. His vet had recently switched him from Vetsulin to Humilin insulin to treat his diabetes but failed to inform us that an entirely different syringe was required. He was receiving more than twice the amount of insulin he was supposed to, twice a day, everyday for about a month.
We took him over to BAVS and they started treating him immediately...well after we put down a $500 deposit. The attending vet was very responsive to questions and the staff was really determined to figure out what could have caused his blood sugar to drop so low.
For an overnight stay and treatment which included the glucose testing and some kinda drips to get his level back up, it cost us about a grand. Unfortunately, emergencies are expensive but I'm glad my dog is now fine.
They allowed us to visit him during his stay and kept us constantly updated on his status which we really appreciated. They were also understanding of our monetary concerns and worked with us to lower the cost by eliminating the tests that weren't absolutely necessary.
