Expo Salon

I stopped in on the way home from work for a quick pampering session and it was anything but. A simple trim turned into an ordeal for me. I have full simple straight hair so you would think it's as easy as it gets but not the case. My hair came out completely frizzle and uneven. There's even a chunk missing on one side. And as if that wasn't bad enough there's a guy that would not stop talking. I think his name is Mickey or something to that affect. He would not stop badgering me into buying more services. No means no. I'm sure you know exactly what I mean. He just struck me as a used car salesman, the kind that you should be very cautious of. That is if you can understand what he's saying. Convenient is not enough, that's my first and last time. more

My wife and I have been going to Vo for a decade. Great service. Central Austin. I have never had an experience like any of the negative reviewers. THis is my go to place for cuts and styles. more

if i could give this place a 0 star rating i would. it's it the alley way of goodwill and looks like it's filled up with stuff they found FROM the alley way of good will. the polish was gooey and thick, the pedicure was painful, the whole place smelled of toxic fumes. not something i wanna endure again. more

EH! is still a generous review for this place. I've always passed it living in the neighborhood and decided to stop in one day. Boy what a mistake that was. I should have known considering it was already tucked away in the alley way behind a goodwill. There was a bunch of people standing outside smoking so I had to get second hand smoke going into the place. Once inside you are bombarded by broken english and sales pressure. The place was cluttered with all sorts of random junk everywhere. It's a really cramp place and they try to fit hair and nails so careful wearing anything nice 'cause you'll probably get hair color on it. I think the guy that did my pedicure was name Mickey or something. He talked so much I had to tune him out, needless to say not very relaxing when you're trying to get a pedicure. The color came off two days later. One toe was swollen from the cut I got, which brings into question their cleanliness. During all of which you're pressured to get this, buy that. Obnoxious terrible experience. more

Heard about this place through a friend of mine. He told me to go see Mickey whenever I had a chance. Mickey has been cutting my hair ever since. I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair. I have very naturally straight and thick hair that's very easy to handle and cut. Although I'm not a hair stylist I've been told this by anyone who's ever given me a cut. I made an appointment and went to expo excited for a change I went with a smile on my face. The store wasn't anything like I was expecting. It was small cramped and over stuffed with all sorts or random things. The only thing that made the small space worst I think is smelling the nail stuff on top of the hair chemicals. But I digress thinking maybe I'm just not used to a new place. The hairstylist didn't seem to understand what I was explaining at all but responded like she did just so I'd shut up. I ended up with an awful haircut that looks more like an old lady's haircut rather than the trendy, modern haircut fit for a girl in her 20s. I would definitely not recommend the salon, and I seriously regret not getting up and leaving in the first place. When the stylist saw the horrified look in my face and asked if I liked the haircut (duh) and I then replied that it wasn't at all what I was picturing - the stylist then had the nerve to tell me that ""You weren't the only one who had to be satisfied with the haircut"" . I can't believe it. The other thing I noticed that was very tacky was somehow in the tight space they managed to stuff in a couple pedicure chairs and nail stations. I don't really enjoy watching other people scrubbing and picking gunk off feet while I'm getting my hair done. And the younger guy that was doing a pedicure was talking the ENTIRE time, very loudly at that, from when I got there until I left. Their prices are expensive for the level of service and needless to say I won't be back any time soon. Cons: over priced more

The Hispanic woman who did my hair was so busy talking to her co-worker the entire time that I may have gotten in two sentences with her. Which was very unnerving considering it was my first time with her and I was trying to tell her how I wanted my hair. The color solution was dripping and got on my face and she didn't even noticed so I had to wipe it off myself. When she was done she was so rough that my scalp was sore the next day. The guy who did my pedicure was so loud and obnoxious, he kept insisting that I get my eyebrows waxed. I was trying very hard to be polite and just say no but he just kept at it, he was paying more attention to up selling me than doing my pedicure. I had dinner reservation right after my appointment but had to cancel to go home and wash all the gunky oil and stuff that was left on my legs. Where I saw huge part of my toe nails not even polished, which didn't matter much I guess seeing as how it all chipped within a few days. When it came time to leave I told the lady that it wasn't as great as I had hoped it to be and the lady basically responded with ""Sorry, we've been in business for a lot of years so you just don't know what you're talking about."" As upset as I was I asked to see the person in charge, but apparently she had gone out of the country or something. Shameful, considering the fact that there was another one of them on every corner. Cons: Over priced for the service that you get. more

I had an appointment with Karen for highlights. When I arrived she was working on someone else for a half hour before she got to me. It was clear she had double booked appointments as it took over 3 hours to do a partial highlight. At one point she had me waiting with my hair in foils for so long the color/bleach was dripping off my hair. It was so bad that even though I had a cape on it dripped all over my pants and ruined them. She said twice she would pay for the pants but never did. The hair color was awful as well. I will never go back! Cons: Sloppy service more

I have used Karen every time I go. She knows her business very well. I am a no-fuss girl who wants to look nice with very little work. I can tell Karen exactly what I want and I will get it in no time flat. As someone with very little ""style"" I can even tell you that the first couple of times I went in, I told her pretty much she was the artist and my hair was the medium. I have not been disappointed yet. Pros: Quick, Efficient, Inexpensive Cons: I can't really think of any more

I honestly don't understand how they supposedly got all these great reviews because I live in the area and pass by them all the time, and on one's ever there. Which is why I thought it would be convenience to give it a shot. It was HUGE mistake. I just wanted a trim and left looking like Forest Gump! I wanted color and got burn irritated skin. Recommended? NO. Huge mistake? Yes. Pros: close by Cons: terrible skill set compared to other salons in the same price bracket. more

Everyone is friendly and it's nice to actually have a conversation with your nail tech, like seeing an old friend rather than a boring hour wasted staring into space. Awesome prices as well more

I came by to get my nails done after my prior salon closed. I have been coming here ever since. I am always very pleased with my nails after visiting, Mickey listens to what I want done and takes care of me just as I have asked. I really like the fact that they give you a little box to hold the files etc. they use and you can take it home to play with too. I have even brought a friend in for a pedi & mani and have recommended Expo to some other friends (something I wouldn't do if I didn't realllly like the service I have received here).\r BTW - Since I starting coming here, I have been getting my nail done regularly and keeping them up better than I ever did before. I have been going to Expo Salon since Micky and Vo started it. I have had manicures, pedicures, and waxes done there. I have never, never been disappointed. The work is great. The environment is wonderful. The prices are affordable. The service is punctual. Their clientel are not just customers, but they are treated as valued relationships. Service is always provided with a smile (and by my count that's almost a decade worth of satisfaction and good cheer.) Keep up the incredible things that you do. Pros: great establishment more

This is Mickey Vo the owner of Expo Salon. Recently it was brought to our attention from one of our loyal customers that a competitor is trying to sabatoge our business over the web. When reading the reviews and deciding whether or not to come visit us, please disregard the reviews on 10/20 and the week of 6/12. These bad reviews were all sent in a week in June and then on one day in October I know they are from a competior b/c I recognize my customers names and keep in touch with referrals so there is no way we could have had this many new people in a week. I'm 29 years old and I've been getting my hair cut by Vo for the past three years. Vo does a great job and that's why I keep returning. Also, the prices are extremely reasonable. I've paid twice as much at other salons and the haircuts were not as good as the ones that I get at Expo. In addition, everyone in the salon is friendly and they truly want to please you.
