OVERRATED 11/28/2007

I have tried out several spas (most of them off of recommendation from this website!) in the denver-boulder area and Essentiels Spa is most definitely one of the worst in terms of customer service and hospitality. I have had six appointments here and not one has started on time... it is unacceptable to me that a 15-minute waxing appointment starts 20 minutes late! The personality of the staff in the front end is mostly generic and impersonable to say the least... most of the women that check you in and out are rude and need an in-service on how to treat customers with respect. I refuse to spend this much at a place that is supposed to make you feel like a queen and simply leaves you feeling like someone inferior. save your money and try out another place- any other place. Pros: several of the aestheticians are very good- tiffinay and karlee are excellent at waxing Cons: everything else more

Way Over Rated! 11/15/2007

I went into Essentials to find out about services, ( I am a spa junkie) I was dressed in regular clothing, clean and clean cut. I noticed that there wasn't much traffic up front- but was over-whelmed by the amount of product and how impersonable the staff was up-front! When you go into a place the person up front should greet you like a patron and/or guest. It was such a turn off, another employee ignored me and didn't even give me eye contact. I don't know what the talk is all about, this place clearly seems like a very cold place to spend time and when you walk in, its like, buy this, buy that.....I wouldn't spend a dime here, I'm sure that there are much better places to spend your hard earned money on and that I did!!! Pros: That it's in Boulder? Cons: Lousy, Lousy, Lousy, atmosphere cold and over priced. more

Overrated & Over Priced 11/4/2007

I am a spa junkie so I was initially thrilled when my husband gave me a substantial gift certificate to Essentiels Spa here in Boulder. At first glance, it looks lovely. Certainly the robes are luxurious. The women's lounge is nice, if small (there is a small waterfall), and there are products for use in the makeup/sink area. I was able to lie on a beach-like chair and relax and read before my services. Well, sort of relax. The first thing I noticed is that the place is LOUD. The lounge was very full and not only did it feel crowded, but I could hear many voices from beyond the lounge. I gave up relaxing and went to wait for my massage. For the first time, I noticed the employees were rude and snotty. I sat for fifteen minutes and then realized it was well beyond the time my massage was scheduled to begin. As I had a facial scheduled for afterward my massage, I asked an employee to check on my appointments, as I didn't want to miss my facial. I was told they were very busy and to be patient. That is not the kind of service I expect when my husband drops two hundred bucks. When I did finally get in for my massage, it was rough (note: I usually like an intense, therapeutic massage), but when I asked if she could lighten up a bit, she said this was her technique and that it would be good for me. She also spoke through the entire thing. The last thing I want during a massage is conversation. It bears noting that throughout the massage, I could hear everything going on everywhere else in the spa. The rooms walls do not reach the ceiling, and the entire place is open to sound bleeding. The facial was underwhelming as well, as the esthetician did not evaluate my skin before beginning and used products I didn't think were appropriate for my skin type. The shocker came, however, when she applied wax to one of my eyebrows. I was NOT there for a brow wax. I ended up with one, however, and it was not good. Total waste of money and time! Pros: Robes & frozen fruit in the water is nice (I am reaching) Cons: loud, rude, inexperienced staff, over priced, not on time. more

Brazilian No No 7/24/2007

Normally for waxing, I would go to Wax in the City (since it is their forte), but since they were booked, i decided to give Essentials a try. Ended up being not the smartest move. The wax technician, Nikki, came to get me, and I told her I was looking to get a Brazilian waxing and she made it seem like it was fairly routine. Come to find out it really wasn't. During the procedure, the wax hardened too much a few times and yet she still attempted to snag it off. I was sure that I had no female distinction left after it was over. And instead of offerrng me a cold compress, she merely said "Oh Sorry." And aside from the pain, the cleanup was awful, i ended up sneaking some wax remover out of the salon to take care of the job when i got home. All-in-all, it was pretty disasterous. If you want a good waxing, Wax In the City is worth the wait for the appointment. more

just a little uppity 12/6/2006

I just went to Essentials recently. What they did not tell me is to spread out your treatments with a little down time in between. This will give you a more relaxing day and feel more like "the spa" experience. We were running from one thing to the next. It could have been better if we would have realized that slowing it down was an option. Next time! good service overall, best mini-manicure EVER...good facial, nice location and overall the employees were nice and didn't act like they were all that ! Which I never understand because THEY are working for US!! but somehow these day spas attract uppity women as employees. more

A wonderful place!!! 12/21/2005

I first tested out Essentiels for my Wedding Make-up last spring, upon the recommendation of a co-worker. Since then I have had my eyebrows done there regularly and sent my mom for several manicures and a facial. Every time I have ever called or been there in person the staff have treated me with the utmost courtesy and friendliness. The young lady who does my eyebrows remembers what we talked about last time and the place has a very relaxing and warm atmosphere. Some of the check-in staff even remember my name, and I don't go there more than once a month! Highly recommended!!! Pros: downtown, professional, excellent staff Cons: busy more

Wonderful! 11/22/2004

After going to the top rated spa in the Denver area and being disappointed, I wasn't expecting to be impressed with Essentiels Spa. But, I was wrong! The staff were wonderful from the receptionists all the way through all of the staff members performing treatments. We enjoyed the pre-steam before our day began and loved the strawberry water provided. Although not in an especially scenic location, the inside of the spa was warm, inviting, and comfortable. This is the spa I recommend to friends! Pros: Staff friendliness, Toiletries available , Relaxed atmosphere more

Luxury! 7/19/2004

Worth every dollar! I love the relaxing atmosphere and the fully stocked ladies' room. Indulge yourself here. Facial is to-die-for. Even the waxing was relatively painless. more

A little over rated 3/5/2003

This little place is a little over rated. I bought my wife a day at the spa and she had a ok day. Nothing to write home about. I had been told that this was the #1 rated place in town, not! Cons: uptight, overpriced more

rating: 1/3/2003

I have used this spa, as well as a few others, since 1995, when it was at another location. It is by far my favorite, and the only one I have actually returned to. I go as often as I can afford : ) There is no horrible smell from fake fingernail glue and the people are always very friendly. Very clean and quiet--sounds are very soothing. The only con is trying to get through on the phone to make an appointment. I have occasionally had to leave messages and don't get called back until the next day, at which point several more appointments have been filled and it gets tough with having to find an available babysitter (no children allowed). Pros: parking, services offered, no fake nails (smell) Cons: appt. availability more

Amazing facial.... 11/11/2002

A friend recommended I go in and ask for Dana. After some doing, I finally scheduled a date and went in. I received the most heavenly facial from Dana and the wait was well worth it! Dana is just heavenly. She was not mechanical like most others, made me feel very comfortable and knew when to talk and, mist importantly, when not to. She made me feel like a million bucks. My friend told me that if I didn't like it, she would pick up the tab and that if I did, I'd have to treat her.... Darn! Pros: Dana was amazing, atmosphere was good, tea was good Cons: too busy more

Heaven? 8/13/2002

Essentiels is expensive. It's impossible to get a booking. It is a little snooty. But it is the best, hands down. Every treatment is state of the art, the facilities are beautiful, even the drinking water is something special. When you want the ultimate in flat-out indulgence, Essentiels is it. You get what you pay for. more

Best day ever 8/8/2002

I had the most relaxing day here. The staff was very professional and catered to my every need. The best part of the day was my facial but the massage and scrub were equally terrific. The water with frozen strawberries was really refreshing. Hopefully my husband will buy me another gift certificate there soon! more

Massage Was Great! 7/29/2002

The Massage I received was great! It wasn't the best, but it was very good! The massage therapist was friendly and warm, the whole environment was wonderful, however, their front desk staff when checking out wasn't so pleasent to deal with, that sort of ruined the experience. The choice of products was great! Pros: Cute environment, Great shopping, Good parking Cons: hard to get appointme more

PHENOMENAL 7/17/2002

I have spent years visiting spas across the entire country and particularly in Colorado. I have not found a spa in Aspen, Vail, Denver or anywhere else that remotely compares to the amazing experience you will find at Essentiels. Their products are the finest in the world, services range from ordinary to exotic, and prices are extremely fair. The facility itself is amazing; gorgeous beds full of down with beautiful comforters from Provance, waterfalls everywhere, and robes so nice you'll want to buy one to wear everyday. Treat yourself to the FINEST spa experience in Colorado. Pros: Atmosphere, Products, Services more
