Worst

I'm surprised at the lack of taste in their risotto. I agree with the last reviewer, as it was very mushy, almost an oatmeal like feel and way too fishy (and I love salmon risott...

Worst meal in PDX 1/7/2005

The patio appears that it would be charming in the summer. I went there for dinner, started with the calamari tempura -- and the evening was off to a bad start. The calamari was so heavily battered, that often times you wouldn't even get any squid in a bite -- some of the items on the plate were just fried batter, without the calamari. Next up for an entree, I had the special of the day, which was billed as Ahi Tuna, served over a potato mash. Unfortuntely, it was NOT ahi tuna, but Yellowfin, and it was cooked so thoroughly, that it was quite tough. The mashed potatoes were quite plain and boring -- this was quite the worst meal I've ever had in PDX - where the food is always top notch. Pros: surroundings more

My New Favorite Restaurant 7/20/2004

I love the atmosphere at Equinox. Inside you'll find a renovated industrial space with warm inviting colors, and outside- a festive landscaped courtyard with plenty of outdoor seating. The staff is very friendly and the service is great. The menu is eclectic and extensive- and they have great cocktails made with fresh ingredients. There were so many choices we had a hard time deciding. There must have been seven entree specials that night! I had the Mojito to start and the Habanero Flat Iron Steak with mashed sweet potatoes for dinner. The steak was cooked just right and the Habanero was not overpowering. My friend ordered the lemon and cilantro pork loin, which was cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys high end food in a comfortable environment. I will definately tell all of my friends to go to Equinox. Pros: affordable, high quality, nice atmosphere more

Severely disappointed! 7/17/2004

Having seen the dinner menu, I was very excited to try Equinox. Unfortunatley, we were very disappointed with every aspect of our meal. My steak portion was very small and the pork we ordered came very rare and was returned rare in a smaller portion after we sent it back. The wait staff's apology was not very sincere and the situation was not handled very professionally. The concepts here are exciting, but in the end the service and quality of food is subpar. I haven't been this disappointed with a meal in PDX in a long time. Pros: Atmosphere, Menu Cons: , service more

great for dates 5/15/2004

THis is a quaint resaurant featuring many small portion vegetarian menu options. Each items is small but very reasonably inexpensive. Good wine list and warm atmosphere that is casual yet romantic. The owner is often present making sure your meal meets her high culinary expectations. Pros: food, price, ambiance more

Jewel In N. Portland 4/8/2004

I have been eating at this amazing restaurant since it open in the fall of 2004, (which has become my Favorite), and have been there on other numerous ocasions since. Each vist has been and extremely wonderful event, the menu has changed with each season, the special board is amazing and the service is always friendly. The food is a mix of worldly combinations that use fresh local organic produce and free range meats, items like Marcona encrusted Halibut with a Blood Orange Basil reduction, or the Mushroom and Gorgonzola Wontons with a Chile Lemon Verbena dip truly take you to a eating blissfulness. All this, plus a price range, that is $6.50 to $12.00. What a super value! No wonder they are becoming more amd more packed every night! Pros: Inexpensive, Urban ambience, Outdoor court-yard more
