Employees Only? Sign Me Up Then! 5/26/2006

This bar is just classic. Decor is well done. Drinks well done. Service well done. And the bartenders add a GREAT touch. I think the magic is that nothing here is over done yet everything has a nice touch to it. If you're not sure just ask the fortune teller seated at the front door! But a warning - dont come here looking for cheap drinks. Come here if you want the price you pay to be worth a full bar experience. Pros: Atmosphere, Drinks, Bartenders Cons: Crowded, Pricey more

Old School Style and Grace 4/25/2006

It is refreshing to go to a bar that puts so much care and attention into its drinks. Everything is classy and classic. Can't say enough good things about the place. Please don't forget about dinner. The food is excellent, too! Pros: Classy, Fun, Indulgent more

Impeccable service! 3/19/2006

Thanks to Igor and the waitstaff at E.O. for making a friend's birthday a special event. Having never been there before I was leery that this would be a pretentious environment but I was glad to find I was wrong. The drinks were delicious, the food impressive and best of all the service was impeccable. Our waitress was as friendly as she was beautiful (and that's saying a lot because she was stunning)! The Maitre D, Igor, was very attentive and went so far as to start us off with a champagne toast for our celebration. We are all looking forward to a return trip! Pros: Impeccable Service, High Quality , Great Ambiance Cons: Limited Food Menu more

Great hidden gem! 1/22/2006

If you want to impress your uptown or out-of-towner guests ... definately take them here. Hidden behind a forturne teller's front awaits a throw-back to the roaring 20's complete with mustachioed owners in zoot suits, a roaring fire (the smell of the fireplace alone will transport you to another world), and friendly service. The place is a TRIP back in time ... amazing bar ... like a speakeasy gentlemen's club ... very sexy. Everyone from the owners to the busboys were friendly, attentive and nice - a rarity in NYC!! Pros: the secret location, the fireplace, the lighting Cons: none! more

Great for a Date... or Just Friends 12/8/2005

Employees Only is my new favorite place for cocktails in the city. The atmosphere is enchanting and the drinks are TO DIE FOR!! All of them. And watching them being made is half the fun. The staff is very friendly and extremely accomdating. No attitude. There's a great table for two in the window that's super romantic... Pros: Drink Menu, Staff, Atmosphere Cons: Scarce Seating in Bar more

Charm in NYC 10/2/2005

this place used to be way better- i went there tonight for the first time in about a year, and everything has gone downhill- the service, the crowd, and the food. the only thing that has stayed awesome are the highly caloric, but very yummy drinks. dont think ill be going back. Pros: AMAZING drinks Cons: a bit crowded, only one bathroom more

Not for me 9/12/2005

If you want expensive overly fancy drinks and a crowd of pretentious downtowners this is the place for you. While the atmosphere looked appealing the place was wall-to-wall with trendy thirty-somethings (or trying to be) who though quite highly of themselves. It certainly wasn't easy to get a drink (we didn't try any of their specialties) and left soon after finishing it. If you want to socialize with friends and talk over a drink this is not the place for you. Cons: crowded, pretentious more

Drinks and ambience. Food? Not so much 9/2/2005

I love this place. Great ambience, nice crowd. But if you're eating, stay with the salad and charcuterie. Oysters were salty. The once great steak tartar is now very average (watch out when the maitre d' makes it at your table - he gestured and some raw steak hit my date's hair). Inattentive waitress but the busboys rock. Slipping downward I think from once great heights. Pity. Pros: ambience, crowd, charcutrie Cons: service, oysters more

My new favorite hang out 7/1/2005

We went to this bar for the first time last week, and I can't stop going back! The staff and owners are so friendly, the crowd is great and I love that there is so much seating in the back. For fun, we got our cards read with the 'psychic' in the front and wow- was she dead on. I am so excited to have found this place and can't wait to go back.. Pros: friendly atmosphere more

Great Experience 7/1/2005

Beautiful bar, great vibe, lighting and service. They take pride in their complex cocktails which are amazing. The bartender/owner was generous in offering a sample I inquired about (place was packed and he took the time to do this). We figured the food would be ok emphasis being on drinks. We were wrong. The meze/meat samplers where refined and full of choices. The Chicken Liver mousse is one of the best in the city. My Salted Bronzini was perfect. (Nice touch to present the fish to the table before filleting it). Another nice touch was the floor mgr/owner preparing the steak tar-tar table side. The scallops were fantastic as well the Monkfish. I was impressed by the hands on attn the owners displayed. Our waitress was also super cool and right there whenever we needed her. Nice going guys! Pros: Drinks, Food, Owner's attn more

stop in for a smart cocktail, stay for dinner 6/13/2005

the bar is a rare find -- music that really fits the mood of the place, with bartenders that really know how to mix a proper drink. we ate out back, and the food was lovely (we had the halibut - done beautifully, and the lamb - VERY tender, almost no fat). a comment on the service: after the glasses arrived for the bottle of wine we ordered, i noticed there was something on the inside of mine. i didn't even have the opportunity to mention it to anyone because not a minute later, one of the proprietors (who watches quietly and carefully from the doorway to all going on with the diners) slipped over and replaced the glass without a word. i can only assume it was after seeing me inspecting it. that story really sums up the service here. go... you'll enjoy it... more

expensive weak drinks 6/7/2005

What else is there to say? If you're spending the money they're charging, the drink better be strong. Pros: cool atmosphere Cons: crowded more

best bet in village 6/6/2005

if you can find it, you're in for a treat. love the bartenders and drinks, food is great, music could be a little bit more up-to-date but goes with the decor and ambiance. must see- check it out! more

good & bad 4/28/2005

Staff is retro hip, very friendly & not pretentious but service was painfully slow. Halibut was amazing, 24oz steak was gigantic, steak tartar ruled and everthing was very fairly price. BUT chacuterrie platter & Peanut butter chocolate cake were near unedible. Cocktails were okay but didn't get to try their signature ginger muddy. Bar is extremely crowded & small indoor dinning area was way too tiny & cramped. Outdoor dinning seems more spacious. Btw, creepy fortune telling booth was not a turn on but it was very popular w/ the gals! Pros: casual environ, unpretentious Cons: crowded dining, slow service more

Pimms & Pate 3/3/2005

EO's version of Pimm's cup is YUMMY - one of the best I've had. I also had the meat and cheese plate which was so fabulous I wanted to lick the pate bowl clean. ( I ate at the bar)....can't wait to have dinner there. more
