Great Service & Awesome Food 8/1/2010

In the few months that I have lived in the Heights I have driven by 11th Street Cafe hundreds of times and kept telling myself to stop and have a bite. Well I finally did and now wish that I would have stopped everyone of those times to eat there. The food was excellent, the service was great, and we had a good time. We ordered a pizza, a hamburger and some fried pickles. The best of them all were the pickles. They were thinly sliced and breaded lightly. Man, where they good. Crisp and not overly salty or sour like some others I've tried before. The pizza tasted good and seemed to be made with fresh cheese and a crisp crust. The pricing was right as were the portions. Our server was really nice and was glad to help us with whatever we needed. The only bad thing I could find was the coffee. I'm always excited to find a place that offers espresso and coffee, and so when I saw their big coffee menu on the wall I was hopeful. I ordered a latte and it didn't taste right. To be sure I ordered a shot of espresso and it was definitely off. I'm not sure if it's the bean, Lola Savanah, or how they prepared it but it wasn't that great. However, there are lots of coffee shops to go to nearby, so definitely go to 11th Street Cafe for everything else! It's worth it. Pros: Fried Pickles Cons: Espresso more

Geat food! Pizza is great. 11/10/2009

Great place. Enjoyed the pizza, breakfast, lunch, and all the was very good. It is dated, because it's in a historical district, it also won 2005 Cityguide's best pizza. I can't for the life of me understand why someone would give this place a bad rep. The staff is professional. I go here 2 time a week, at different times. more

stay away... 6/29/2008

We went for Sunday brunch, and we left regretting every minute of it. Our intestines STILL haven't recovered...The orange juice tasted like it had spoiled (and when we told our server, she said that we were not the first people to say that!), the tables were filthy, the bacon was mostly fat, the eggs were cold, and the syrup was stale (and in a dirty, sticky bottle no less). To add insult to injury, our waitress was awful (maybe she was hungover??). I hate to be so negative about a neighborhood establishment, but I wouldn't wish our experience on my worst enemy. Lesson learned! Pros: Convenient if you live in the Heights, lots of parking Cons: Food, service, ambiance more

Sunday Brunch...a meal that never happened 6/16/2008

We'd heard from a few of our friends in the Heights that 11th St Cafe had a great Sunday brunch. When we got there, we thought it would be great since the place was packed. We ordered our food and waited 45 minutes before we even were told that it would be ready ""in a few minutes."" 15 minutes later they hadn't even started making our meal, even after a few people who came in after us had their food. To me, it's not worth the wait or price, the place is pretty dirty and dated and the waitstaff was not very helpful. Pros: Lots of parking Cons: Long wait, small menu more

Eleventh Street Cafe 1/6/2008

We went to the 11th Street Cafe because we always hear how wonderful their pizza is and wanted to go try it for ourselves. We sat down at a table 15 minutes before 5 PM and wanted to order a pizza, which they refused to serve because it ""wasn't 5 o'clock"". We then ordered a bowl a chili, the first bowl they brought out was cold ... half-way through the second bowl we found a hair in it. The chili tasted like it was out of a can, the crackers they were stale. We ordered two salads, both recommended by the waiter. They were terrible! On top of that their house coffee tasted like burned coffee that had been sitting on the warmer for 2 days. No matter how amazing everyone tells you the pizza is, the 11th Street Cafe is not worth going to with terrible food and terrible service. Cons: bad service, bad food, no parking more

it'll make a turdd 7/10/2007

I like going here because you get served fast. If you like army style square omlettes, and enough grease to give you stomach cramps afterwards, then this is the place for you. A heck of a lot better than Andy's down the street, but that isn't saying much.\r \r Waitstaff is very friendly. Love that part of it.\r \r If it weren't for them, I don't think I'd come back. Pros: the waitstaff is very kind and friendly, almost always a smile. they work for those tips! Cons: latina waitress could use some lessons in how to smile more

Chili Cheese Omlet, it is the best Hangover cure I know 2/15/2007

When I drank this was my cure, I still like it, Great sat or sun am hangout for breakfast read the paper and pump coffee into your self. it is like a old hippie haunt. Pros: chili cheese omlet - best hangover cure Cons: food is not free more

Overpriced, Could Do Better at Home 3/20/2006

We've tried 11th Street many times, always hoping for a good experience, always being disappointed. The last, and final visit for me, I tried a simple omlette. It was expensive, cold and was covered in Pace picante. Pace is fine, but I could have made the same thing at home and it would have been hot. My wife had a decent grilled cheese there once, but that has been the extent. The added a patio... on the 11th street side of the building! Instead of placing it in the back, under the trees, you get to sit next to car exhaust at the corner of 11th and Studewood. Money would have been better spent on a new cook. Pros: Convenient Cons: Poor Food, Poor Patio, Poor Value more

AMAZING PIZZA & PHILLY CHEESE STEAKS 6/18/2005

OK...ALL of their food is great...but...their pizza chef should win some sort of blue ribon award! The crust is wonderful and the toppings are top quality! The Philly Cheese Steak...has to be the best I've had in Houston! They ship the rolls in fresh from Philly, the meat is tender and very flavorful, and the cheese melts in beautifully! Pros: Great Value, Quality Food, Wonderful Service more

A Tradition 7/9/2004

I've been going to the 11th street cafe for over 10 years. Nothing has changed in those 10 years including the cutlery and waitstaff or the magnificant food this place puts out. I went when I was a starving student and I still go now that I'm not. If you want the best burger in town, it's right here. Pizza will knock your socks off and weekend breakfast is the best people watching experience I've ever had. Pros: Excellent Food, relaxed atmosphere, people watching more

Best Hamburger 7/9/2004

The Eleventh St. cafe will never win any awards for handsome decor but their old fashioned cheese burgers with a handmadmade beef patty cooked on an ancient grill and garnished with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, red onion on their toasted bun are the real deal, the way a hamburger is supposed to be made. The best in town, in my opinion. I have them for breakfast! more

Great pizza 6/14/2003

I love 11th street. There's never anyone there. The pizza has become my favorite in town. Its great for groups. Its BYOB, which is always a plus. Pros: BYOB, Fast, Never crowded more

Declining 12/28/2002

I used to love this place, but they have reduced their portions by 50% and kept the prices the same. I just can't justify going there now. Sad. more

Quite and Nice. 11/23/2002

The food is diner style circa 1975, its quite and away from the trendy downtown restraunts. The prices are resonable too! Pros: Quite, Cheap Cons: small menu, menu veries more

Great place, great food 8/13/2002

Small, but wonderful. The food is just like mom used to make, and it feels just like your sitting in your own kitchen. I love this place, and think the food is something to be enjoyed. more

""Sunday Morning Coming Down"" 7/30/2002

Kris Kristofferson could not have written a better title for 11th Street Cafe. Perfect on a lazy Sunday, (or even an active antique shopping one) the food is quick and cheap, with plentiful coffee, and served with just enough greasy spoon attitude. Plus, everyone is as hungover as you! I prefer hash browns to the big chunks they serve, but hey.....when that is your only real complaint, it's time to shut up. Don't forget to try their pizza for dinner--delicious! Pros: cheap, quick Cons: no credit cards, everything is sticky more
