Comfortable and convenient 6/9/2006

Wow, sorry previous reviewers had negative experiences, but we really enjoyed our recent stay at the Doubletree. Front desk staff is friendly & helpful; love the warm cookies upon check-in. Asked to change to a room away from the elevator, the staff accommodated the change expediently and w/ smiles. Queen rooms are a bit small but comfy (knew someone staying in a double room w/ 2 beds; their room was huge w/ a balcony and "Sweet Dreams" pillows, we were jealous!) . Rooms are nice & clean, beds are comfortable. Room service food was tasty. The little cafe-like counter in the lobby was good for picking up coffee and pastries on the go. The fitness center was fine - predomniantly cardio machines with 1 toning multi-use unit. Proximity to the MAX train was a real convenience, loved that. I could see both business travelers and vacationers enjoying their stays here. Would stay here again. Pros: nearby MAX, cookies, comfortable Cons: Small queen rms more

Good Location. 3/9/2006

I stayed here with my family while my husband attended a conference. There is a terminal downstairs to allow guests to check their email. The rooms were as expected. There is a restaurant that offers kids 5 and under to eat free at the buffet. It is adjacent to a metro stop. We toured around w/o a car. We even walked across the birdge to OMSI (there's no direct bus route there) and it really wasn't as bad as it looked! We did have a bit of a problem coming in off of an Amtrak train from Seattle. We neglected to pull the bus stop wire and went way past the hotel. Nothing like lugging your luggage 5 blocks to teach you a lesson in public transportation... more

The Horror! 7/17/2005

I have made reservations twice at this hotel to attend a work-sponsored party, and each time I am given a smoking room, DESPITE making reservations for a NON smoking room far in advance!!! Apparently entire floors of "luxury" suites in this hotel are reserved for smoking. Given the service and clientele, I would NOT recommend. Stay away! Pros: Close to Lloyd Center Cons: Close to Lloyd Center, UGLY views, Fetid odor more

Very Disappointing 7/12/2005

Every summer, I take my family to a local hotel for swimming and shopping - like a vacation near home. This hotel advertised "the largest non-suite rooms in Portland" and these are not large. I get two rooms and they could not get two connecting. The one for the kids had not enough room left for a foldout bed. We cancelled the rollaway but were charged for it anyway. This hotel advertised a heated outdoor pool but the water was frigid. They also advertised beautiful views but ours was of the roof. Finally, I am opposed to paying extra money to park at the hotel I am paying to stay at. No one likes being nickel and dimed to death. Overall, I would not recommend staying here. Pros: clean, near mall, near max Cons: nearly all else more

Doubletree, Portland 7/24/2004

Overall, our atay there was not a positive experience. It began with a $12 per night parking charge, which we were not informed of ahead of time, and an ""I don't care"" attitude was shown by the desk clerk. Pros: Adequate room Cons: , parking, long walk from lobby more
