Deplorable Service! 11/29/2010

My husband and I are regulars at this no frills neighborhood greek restaurant w/reliable food. Lately, the service has been horrible. On a recent Saturday night our server was completely clueless, screwed up our order and kept us waiting for food that she did not put into the kitchen. The manager, a nice guy, recognized we were regulars and apologized. Recently, our server told us that he could not cancel our order. My husband was full and could not eat the entree. The server argued w/us and would not take the entree off the menu. After we told him we were not going to pay, he conceded. This place has decent food, but really needs to work on training it's servers. more

Horrifyingly Rude Service 8/9/2009

I have been going to Dmitri's at 3rd and Catherine religiously for the past ten years. I have never had a bad meal or a rude server....until last night. A friend and I had put both of our names in without knowing until a while after we were waiting. When the gruff, manish, hostess sat us, I told her I had a bottle being held under my name. With the look she gave me, you would have thought I had murdered her mother! She had the gall to treat the four of us like second rate citizens the entire rest of the night, even after WE tried to apologize. I feel sorry for her boyfriend (or maybe girlfriend). I don't know who the hell she thought she was, but her behavior was SHOCKING and totally unacceptable. I never thought I would have a bad thing to say about Dmitri's, but I will think twice before I ever go back. There's other great seafood in the city. That girl needs a talkin' to. Terrible terrible service 8/3/2009

While the food was decent, the service was terrible. We walked in and no one took our name for at least five minutes. When they did take our name they asked if our party was there and I said no they were parking. We were then seated. After being seated, another woman came over and literally began to yell at us for sitting down before our party was there and lying about our party being there. I then explained what happened and she insisted that I had lied before even listening to what I said or noticing the fact that my foot was in a cast. I would have left however my foot is injured and casted, which is probably why we were seated before our party was there in the first place. We then waited 20 minutes to even order drinks. The manager was apologetic however the evening was already ruined. And the food was just mediocre. I was quite disappointed with the overall experience and would not recommend going there. more

Great place for fresh flavors, nice prices, neighborhood 6/8/2009

Their avocado grapefruit salad with almonds is wonderful, and they serve wine filled to the brim in cute short glasses. It makes the place feel like a family place, but a nice place at that. The flavors are so fresh, almost japanese-style, so you can really taste the flavors of the food. Their house wine is also very flavorful, and this is a great place to just dig in and order many dishes to share with friends, that's what we always do. As for service, I only remember good times, eye contact and service with a heart. Pros: inexpensive, lots of vegetarian options more

Consistent 5/8/2009

One of my local favorites that is consistent and never disappoints. The menu never changes and the service is outstanding. Try the hummus, and or the octopus... the best in town. The staff is friendly and hard working, & may as well be on roller skates because when the place is jumping it's really jumping! No worries though with servers like Jennifer you'll be waited on with kindness. Pros: food, service & outdoor seating Cons: minimal on street parking more

consistent, delicious, excellent service 1/6/2008

I have been to Dmitri's on more than a dozen occasions, and I can say that it is a place I never tire of. The food is simple, but always fresh and absolutely delicious. The service is attentive, and they genuinely ensure that their customers have an enjoyable experience. I am a local neighbor to the establishment, and it's a popular favorite among residents of Rittenhouse Square. I defnitely would not agree w/ the most recent negative write ups, and would suggest this place to anyone who truly enjoys good food and good service. If you are looking for a fru-fru place to be seen, head elsewhere, but Dimitri's is tried-and-true and has never let me down. more

Pathetic ambience 4/30/2007

This place could be graeat. You can get healthful food simply prepared. I love the taste of their plain broiled tilapia-- no frills, but good basic flavors. The service is pleasant and prompt. The problem is the amnience. The noise level is ridiculous and the patrons brind their small children and pets with total disregard for their fellow diners. The best thing they could do is calm the place down and appeal more to an adult, human clientelle. Pros: healthy tasty food Cons: ambience, crowd, small kids, and pets. more

You call this Greek? 5/15/2006

Runny tzatziki sauce, bland hummus, and an overall feeling of laziness permeate this place. Nothing about the food feels authentic, and it seems as if it was just slapped on a plate and flown at the door. On top of that, the fast food furniture made us feel like we were at a pizza joint. Philly needs a good Greek restaurant, 'cuz this sure ain't the real deal. Pros: BYO Cons: Food, Ambience more

I've been to the Pine Street Dmitri's on several occasions. Each time I'm treated to great, fresh seafood (the hummus and flounder are to die for), adequate service, and, if you arrive before 6:30, pleasant, soothing surroundings. Unlike many reviewers on this site, I actually had a terrible experience at their Queen Village location - the hostess was coarse and suggested that my idea of sitting at the bar while waiting for a table (which I've done several times elsewhere) was gauche. Also, that location strikes me as MUCH more crowded. At both locations, though, great food and great prices, so really, who can complain too much? more

I disagree with the editor -- ""It's just like the other Dmitri's but with more seating and a liquor license."" Nah, it's not just like the other Dmitri's. I've been to both Dmitri's numerous times, and the Queen Village one's food has been consistantly better (with screw-ups twice at the Pine St location) and the service better in Queen Village. The Citysearch reviews/ratings reflect the difference. If you want the real Dmitri's, go to the other side of town! Pros: Food (Sometimes) Cons: Service, Not BYOB more

With average food and average ambience one would think the staff (especially the manager) would try their utmost to be personable, accomodating and service oriented. WRONG. This place is the pinnacle of rudeness and lack of concern for their customers. I guess I should have beleived the many negative reviews already posted on Citysearch. Good rice pudding. Mmm Mmm Good! 2/18/2004

I've never had a bad experience at Dmitri's. I've been there over a dozen times in the past year and the food is always impeccable, the portion size is adequate, and the ambience is relaxing. It's perfect for a pleasant, afforadable night out with a loved one and/or a few friends. To top off a fantastic meal there I recommend a chocolate pot (yum!) and a Lambic Framboise to wash it down. DMetri's Restaurant 10/28/2003

I was reluctant to drive from Phoenixville to celebrate my son's birthday (he's 22 and attending Penn) after reading several bad reviews about this restaurant. I took the chance since my son enjoyed the food several months ago. It was raining and I was with my elderly aunt who has difficulty walking. We arrived an hour earlier and although the manager did not appear to be very friendly, I asked him if we could come inside. He allowed us to wait inside for an hour until the restaurant was officially open. We were patient in waiting at the bar and finally they seated us at a table near the kitchen. We were served our meal by three different waitresses and they were all polite. I loved the freshness of the Greek food. Although, the personnel are not overly friendly, there service was good and the food was delicious. Pros: fresh, delicious food, pleasant atmosphere, borderline polite Cons: Service needs warmth more

Mcdonalds has better service 8/9/2003

Recently, we tried to order takeout (pay for food without using a precious table) and they randonmly decided that they wouldnt allow us to take out food. Furthermore, the waitstaff will wait 20 minutes to turn over an empty table while people just sit and wait. On one occasion a party of 4 friendly with the waitstaff were allowed to cut the entire list. The food is decent, but probably not worth the aggravation. I will never return 7/25/2003

Our service was fine up until the server decided to leave (his shift was over) without telling us or giving us a check or offering us dessert. When we finally got the check from another server 30min later, we left a 10% tip. After we left, a server came running into the street after us to question us on the tip we had left! I went back to the restaurant to complain to the manager who informed me that the policy of Dmitri is to confront customers who do not leave adequate tips. He informed me that Dmitri has taken customers to court before.(!?) When I told him that I would probably never return, he said ""oh well."" I will never return and I recommend that you don't either.
