Editorial review from Citysearch 6/15/2012

As far as jewelry selection goes, they're decent. I bought a ring there a while ago and I didn't find anything else in all of Crabtree that I liked more. They were pleasant and patient to work with for the most part, although I was totally ignored twice when I went in for other reasons (ring resizing), which upset me a bit. But with that neutral review said, I'm here writing this because of their advertizing tactics. I don't understand what kind of awful person comes up with their commercials, but I think it is absolutely despicable that their goal seems to be to put local, small, privately-owned stores out of business. Since they've started airing commercials to that effect, I've been completely turned off. I refuse to go back, and I absolutely will not recommend this place to any of my friends who might ask my opinion on where to go for jewelry. We have since discovered a couple other privately owned businesses from which we bought our wedding bands. The places we've been to have ACTUALLY done all the things that Diamonds Direct claims they do (better prices, friendly, etc), minus the rude commercials. I would sure hate to see those places close because another store bulldozed them, under the guise of being ""the best"" place to shop and purchase jewelry. more

Great Experience!!! I am so confused 6/9/2012

Great Experience!!! I am so confused when I read the reviews below about bad experiences at Diamonds Direct, as I had a GREAT experience. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They took the time to understand what I was looking for and what I liked in a ring. The staff then led me around the showroom to show me only what met my quality, style, and price preferences. They didn't waste my time showing jewelry that would not be of interest. If I inquired about a case, she would explain why she didn't think it would be a good fit, but also allowed me to look at the jewelry anyway just in case. I ended up having a setting designed for a diamond that I already have. They did not pressure me into buying another diamond even though I was willing. \r \r I just picked up my newly designed ring today. I am extremely happy with the ring! It turned out even better than I was expecting which is pretty hard to do. ;-) While we were there, I had my husband look at the Breitling watches. We were never pressured to buy one, but decided to splurge since it was our 15th wedding anniversary. My husband and I can not say enough positive things about DD @ Crabtree. The staff was friendly and professional, but not pushy!!! The service was above and beyond our expectations! I happily recommend this store to anyone who is looking to purchase jewelry in the Raleigh area! \r \r Thanks to Barak and his staff for a great experience! more

Ever think about buying diamonds at a car lot? 4/11/2012

I've shopped for jewelry in Raleigh for many years, and have purchased at many name brand stores. I thought I'd give Diamonds Direct a shot for an anniversary gift. Boy did I pick the wrong place. If you picture used car salesmen selling diamonds, you'll get the picture. After five minutes of high pressure sales pitches that included running down other merchants (many of which I had happily purchased from for years) I bailed, and never looked back. I felt the whole experience was unprofessional and low rent. I'm guessing you will too. more

Good Overall Experience 6/6/2011

My husband and I worked with Lisa Johnson from the beginning. She went over the basic stuff of buying a diamond (4 c's) and then we told her our maximum budget. We started looking at diamonds and found one (a pear shape) that was absolutely brilliant. We picked our setting and my engagement ring was ready fairly quickly and was just beautiful. We actually spent $400 less than our max budget. It was a comfortable shopping experience, so we went back to get our bands (they also give you a discount on those when you get your engagement ring there). We picked out our rings. We got a really good deal on both. Mine was the right size so I kept the one I left the store with. My husband's was too big out of the case, so they let us use it as a ""loaner"" and ordered the appropriate size for him. It took longer than I expected for his to come in, but other than that, we were pleased with the overall experience from engagement to wedding. more

Great buying experience 4/28/2011

After having visited several jewelry stores and multiple websites I finally found what I was looking for at Diamonds Direct Crabtree. Amy Gifford, the sales associate who helped me was very knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and in no way made me feel pressured to buy. She responded to every one of my multiple emails and calls promptly and helped me pick out a great ring at a good price for my fiance that she absolutely loves, I catch her looking at it all the time. I had such a good experience that my fiance and I went back to them to pick out our wedding bands during their annual 20% off sale and she felt the same way. Even during the sale when they were extremely busy Amy took to the time to show us several options in line with what we were looking for and gave us all the time we needed. Great overall experience. more

Terrible customer service. 1/19/2011

After searching and searching to find the perfect wedding set, my husband and I tried this place after reading some positive reviews from other websites. We were given Raj as an associate, and after telling him what we were looking for, he basically gave us three options, telling us that the others were going to be too expensive and a waste of our money. He said that he would order some stones (I didn't want a diamond) and call us when they were in. Well, we never got the call, and after my husband called and left a few messages, I called and asked to speak to a manager. I spoke to Brian, who apologized and assured me that he would get more stones for us to look at and call me the next day. He didn't call for a week, and by this time we had already moved on and found a better jeweler. TL;DR: The staff won't return your calls and don't seem to care about actually helping you. more

Terrible Experience, way too pushy! 11/26/2010

This place is terrible! I went because I have heard their ads a lot on the radio. They make it sound like they are diamond dealers that sell directly to the public. I thought that was cool so I wanted to check them out. I am a research junkie and have done a lot of research on diamonds and diamond pricing. From the moment I walked in I was treated like a piece of meat. Their salespeople are like used car salesmen but maybe worse. They told me all about the ""secret"" diamond wholesale price list and how they were going to sell me a diamond for what the other jewelry stores buy them for. This is a load of crap! They asked me if I had been somewhere else and seen a diamond that I liked. I had seen a diamond ring at Fink's that I liked and the salesmen began to laugh. He then leaned in and whispered, ""Fink's buys their diamonds from us"". How dumb did this guy think I was! They fed me line after line. I am in sales and it is pathetic how many times he tried to ""close"" me. Once they realized I was not buying that day, they then kept trying to get me to make a deposit. They even brought out the manager or owner and he was even worse! It is also funny that their ""wholesale prices"" that only they can offer because they are diamond dealers, were very similar in price to other retail stores in the area. Don't believe their schpeel. These guys are sheisters. I would recommend more honest jewelers like Johnson's or Bailey's. These places actually treated me like a human being. I ended up buying from Bailey's and was very pleased with my experience. The quality was great and the prices were just as good. Also, the exact same Jeff Cooper ring I looked at was cheaper at Bailey's. Bailey's retail tag price was less than Diamonds Direct's ""good deal"" and that was before Bailey's gave me a discount! Bottom line is, I want to shop with people I trust and I did not trust Diamonds Direct. more
