I took my 2005 Chevy 1500 to David's to have the instrument cluster fixed, gear shifter cable replaced and a few other minor repairs such as reattaching the fog light guard. After a few days Jonny called with an estimate of $1900. $800 was for the cluster. The dealership only wanted $500 for the cluster. Jonny had several stories about what is wrong with the gear shifter but quoted $600. When I returned from vacation ten days later they had changed my oil and that is all. I had requested they replace my windshield but they did not even do that supposedly because the check engine light would not come on. No lie. The engine light is always burning bright due to a sensor that needs to be reset. When I picked up the truck they charged me $200 for assessing it. Goodyear provided two free estimates (two different managers) and is fixing the fog light guard for free. $750 total...in one day. I will never go back to David's. You should not either. Too much BS Jonny. Get your story straight and stop blaming the technician.\r more

I am absolutely compelled to write this review..... Called David's Automotive Repair yesterday as my vehicle was in the midst of dying, they were very helpful on the phone and agreed that what I was experiencing was possible the fuel pump and would get me in right away. So I drove directly there and dropped the car off, again very helpful and they would call with a quote shortly. They gave me a ride to work which was nice. They called back with a price and said they could get it done today; well I nearly choked as this is a lot of money. So I called around and found that they where competitive with other shops and I understand a markup on parts and all businesses have to make money but when I did the math this was an honest deal. When I told them that the price was for the amount of work to be done was about right, they told about there warranty and I could not believe that they have a better warranty then the dealer. The fact that you can get the work done and have a better warranty then the dealer is just out of this world. I brought them a self assessed problem and they check my vehicle out completely and gave there assessment of the work that needed to be done and any other issues that could be taken care of at a latter date gave me a sense of that they really care about there customers. I would recommend this shop to my mother and everyone else. In this day an age it is hard to find a good reputable place to bring my vehicles. The icing on the cake was that they picked me up when the work was done, greeted me with a smile, answered all my questions and even said Thank You. Just really good customer service. more

These folks are just the best of the best. They tell you the truth, they don t try to sell you anything you don t need, and they stand behind their work 100%. There are just not that many mechanics I trust anymore...these folks are the exception to the rule. They re not only good mechanics, they re good people. I really like the fact I can go in and know that my car will be repaired and not worry if the work has been completed or not. One time, not too long ago, I spent over $400 dollars at another repair shop for a window motor and the motor was not replaced. I have not had that issue with David s Automotive. There is no dishonesty there. Just the work that actually needs to be done on the vehicle. i have been bringing my cars to these guys for many years. i keep my vehicles for a long time. my overall repair bills are much smaller than my friends that go to their dealerships. i can always count on their recommendations and have never had unnecessary repairs proposed to me. Thanks more

While my service was timely, professional, and competitively priced, this review is more about the witness that I observed in the 30-45 minutes that I enjoyed in the lobby. I only have 250 words, so I will be brief...\r \r 1. When asked if anyone in the lobby needed anything, a dear elderly lady mentioned that she hadn't eaten that morning. David's Automotive, found her some of their personal oatmeal to nourish her.\r \r 2. A lady pulled up and asked for air in her tires. When she asked how much, David's Automotive said there was no charge other than to have a ""great day!""\r \r 3. A rather demanding customer with financial hardship was given the utmost patience, a discount, and a blessing.\r \r My auto care will go to this organization, bar none. more

I got a quote from Firestone to replace the rubber bushings that wore out on the front end of my 99 Dodge Dakota, $2300, Then took it to David's Automotive, $1600 quote, so I had them do the work, when I got there, the price was actually $1299, and they did the job RIGHT! I will be bringing my truck to David's Automotive from now on. Professional, Courteous, and with a smile. Their office is very clean, and the atmosphere was relaxing. I highly recommend you try David's Automotive, they get the job done right and charge reasonable rates. more

I need to advise anyone reading this to beware, I called and spoke with Chris (the owners son) about working on my car, I had gone to Auto Zone and got a print out of the vehicles computer to see why the check engine light came on, he said they would have to run their own and gave me a price. the price he gave seemed to be average so I had it done, when it was completed I got a quote for over 1200.00 dollars, I told him I felt it was a little high for what needed to be done, we negotiated and brought it down to 1000.00 and that would also include the state inspection ( I had only been in TX 2 weeks and getting everything ready to switch to TX plates). Chris said my car would be ready by 4 pm, it was but when I went to pay I found out their equipment for inspection had been down for 4 mths per the manager and then he told me I still needed to pay the grand, I asked him to call Chris, he did ans Chris denied the whole conversation, even denied working with me on the cost... lessoned learned , They charge way to much and they don't stand by their word...DON'T USE THIS COMPANY, more

My ABS light was coming on my dash and i assumed that I most likely needed a brake job. I dropped my truck off and came back to be told that I still had plenty of life on my brakes and no pads or works was necessary. As for the ABS light, it was a faulty relay...which I elected to ignore since they cost $$$$. Any othe shop could have easily gotten a brake job out of me.....instead it was a zero charge visit...WOW....an auto shop that is actually honest! When leaving I ran into an old man that had been going there 6 years and he said that they actually worked out a payment plan for one of his costly repairs....what other place would do that in North Dallas???? Dealing with the public is hard enough....but this place is a ray of light in an otherwise dishonest world. You have my business for life (that is, if I don't move).... more

Took my van in for a gas leak a few months ago. At first they said they would do for $50 it was an easy fix. Then they had me come out the next day, and it jumped to $280 because it had to be an OEM line w disconnects. I went home to try and come up with the money, called him back and asked if he would do it for $225. I knew he would because I saw on his sheet while I was there his notes where he had doubled the cost of the part. (I should have left then) He agreed. The fix didn't work. I came back the next day and they used adhesive to fix the line. I should have known better then too. About a week ago I had a leak from the other end of the line. However I crawled up underneath and saw a clamp and figured it just needed to be tightened..I did and it was no problem...but then I got to thinking what is up with the disconnect OEM line no clamps...hmm. Oh well Im a busy guy...this morning leaking again from the original spot. Took it in...and they said it was NOT the line...it was definitely the fuel pump, and they would not fix it again because it was a different spot, therefore a new problem. This time it was a fuel filter for $689 to fix. Plus while I was at it I needed a tie rod, plugs and wires, and had an oil leak for a grand total of $1300. I looked the guy in the eye and said you're sure it's a fuel pump. And he affirmed it. I took it to another mechanic. He told me they never installed an oem line, some line they cut and clamped, it was hanging down and as it wiggled from driving it was coming loose. The fuel pump was fine as was my tie rod and I had no oil leak. He gave me the option of buying the OEM part from the dealership or charging me $25 to clamp it in a second place and then secure the line so it would hang and make it wiggle. He told me if a dealer sold the car like that it would have been against the law. He also said that they were either liars and thieves, or complete idiots. I am thinking all of the above. I am so mad I can hardly breathe as I type this. They took complete advantage of me, and they will you too. more

Great repair shop, decent pricing 5/14/2012

Went to David's Automotive because a friend recommended them. I took my vehicle there for an oil change and they told me I needed rear brakes at 40,000 miles. I'm thinking ""ok whatever just another shop trying to make a buck."" They took me out to the shop and showed me the rear brake pads were almost completely worn down!! Had the repairs done within a few hours and they even gave me a ride to work and picked me up. more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO DAVIDS AUTOMOTIVE 2/2/2012

I took my car in for diagnostics, David told me it was the Transmission. I paid for him to tow it to a SO CALLED expert. The expert let his young daughter play in the car and get greasy foot prints on the leather seats, she took items that belonged to me from the car as well. The transmission guy not only did NOT fix my problem, but I had to take it back to be redone and have him repair everything else he broke including the AIR BAGS! after another week without my car I got it back with more problems and had to go to another REAL mechanic to get my car fixed right the THIRD time. I later found out that David charged me three times the normal rate for the transmission. SAVE YOURSELF THE MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! ! ! ! ! ! ! DAVIDS DESERVES ZERO STARS more

The usual rip-off 9/8/2011

After reading the online reviews it seemed in balance that this place might be worth a try to solve a problem with uneven pad wear on my car. Since I have done most mechanical repairs/maintenance on my cars for approximately 15 years I could eliminate the obvious causes. After writing a description of the problem they didn't test-drive the vehicle and just took it straight to the shop. 10 minutes later I was told by the ""customer service manager"" that the calliper pins needed greasing and it would cost $100. Playing dumb I asked for the mechanic to show me what he meant--greasing the pins is a 1 minute job and I knew the pins were fine. The mechanic duly showed me the pins on the side that might have a malfunctioning calliper and told me that must be the problem. So I asked to see the other side's pins so I could see how they should be working. When the other side was shown to be functioning just like the previous side the mechanic then said it must be the callipers--incidentally on both wheels he had left the calliper hanging by the brake line which is potentially bad for the line and definitely a PR no-no. Presumably since they didn't test drive the vehicle and the mechanic really had no idea what was wrong the plan was (as is typical) not to solve the problem (except by coincidence) but to simply get as much money out of the customer as possible. As is often the case, those reviewers (if legit) who praise this outfit for their customer service are probably those who have no mechanical knowledge and simply go along with whatever they are told is the problem--which of course will always make the shop very happy to help them. more

Most Unfriendly Place I've spent thousands of dollars at 5/13/2011

Don't expect a friendly atmosphere here, don't expect any conversation at all. We've spent thousands of dollars with them. Our stupid fault we should have learned after the second time. This last time was the final time. Don't expect any pointers or advice, don't expect politeness in any form or fashion. Our last visit we spend 350.00 on plugs and wires for a 4 cylinder vehicle. That was the final time - they didn't even Thank us for our business. Done deal - never to return. more
