Ships wrong item, no follow up 12/7/2012

The facts: Received DVD burner instead of Blu Ray drive. Called. Told they need UPC of the mis-shipped item to process. Called back with UPC. Told I would get an answer following Monday to see if distributor has item. Got no call by Friday. I called and rep said THREE TIMES "so you didn't get your order.." when I repeatedly told him I got it but it was the wrong item. Rep says "I don't appreciate your tone" when I raised my voice stating the situation for the third time but did not curse. He said he'll check with the buyer who should be in about 10 minutes. (it was 7am PST so they must always show up late) Finally he did get back to me in an hour saying they don't have it, and will send a label to ship back which can take over 24 hours. Also this same rep said "you're welcome" before I said thank you, funny. Summary: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY. more

Surprised they are still in business 9/19/2008

DataVision may have speedy delivery, but they have to have the worst customer service on the internet. After recently purchasing Ultra hard drive enclosures from DataVision one of them did not work. I sent several emails to Data Vision trying to get some assistance and received no response from their poor customer department. When I was finally able to get them agree to allow me to return the item I had to pay the shipping to return the hard drive enclosure. more

In a crisis, amazing. 6/3/2006

Datavision, like all big computer stores, is somewhat evil. It's crowded, confusing and the sales peopel are agressive because they work on comission. That said, as far as I am converned, these people are miracle workers. You need something that's no longer in production an hour ago or your boss is going to kill you? If anyone can find it Datavision can. Take your product need emergencies to them. more

The aisles are very small and hard to walk around the layout of the store is reminiscient to the maze of the minotaur. Plus the fact they have a CompuUSA across the street does not show a sign of intelligence on the stores part. Not the best place to find electronics. You may be better off shopping across the street for what you're looking for unless the shop is having a sale. more

Avoid like the plague! 12/30/2005

The place is poorly organized . It's hard to find things you need and the store just looks like a mess. The staff is unfriendly and often look like they would rather be anywhere else. They don't offer you any assistance. They are competively priced but you may be better off finding what you want at the CompUSA across the street. more

High prices and bad service 11/23/2005

I wandered in because I needed some cables and a laptop lock. Too bad I didn't keep going one block further south to CompUSA. They're not great, but compared to this place, they're Amazon. I asked someone at the tech desk where to find the cables I wanted and they said to ask a salesperson. Then I waited for about 15 minutes for the guy to get off the phone, only to have him gesture across the store and tell me to read the signs. Even the cashiers were immersed in conversation and took awhile to ring up the sale. Bad management, bad employee training. The stuff seemed awfully pricey and sure enough, they were about 25% higher in price than other stores. No warning signage, but after paying, the receipt states Absolutely No Refunds. But I was going to suck it up anyway because no amount of money was worth subjecting myself to that place again. more

Datavision -- alternative to the computer superstores 9/3/2005

My husband and I have bought at least once computer from Datavision as well as numerous computer items. The prices are usually competative with the computer superstores (maybe a little more) -- but it's worth the trip just for the knowlegable employees. They actually know what they are talking about and give you good advice. If nothing else, it's certainly worth a trip to price compare. We've had no problems with the purchases we've made at Datavision and I would highly recommend them. more

Ever get tired of CompUSA 8/21/2005

I've spent endless hours browsing computer stores searching for software, prices on LCDs, computers, etc. When what you are looking for isn't exactly mainstream, and you need someone who is at least familiar with what a motherboard is you might want to head down to datavision on 5th avenue. 3 floors packed to the gills with computer gear from the decidedly mainstream vaio and mac with the big monitors to the power supplies, motherboards, and firewire hard drives in the basement. They have a substantial software inventory on the third floor though it does feel a bit ignored. I think the sales people (who seem to be commissioned) are more interested in getting you to drop the big money on the main floor for the 24" mac monitors. That said if you need an alternative to the mainstream it's worth a shot. more

Expensive and unhelpful 8/16/2005

Located in midtown Manhattan, this computer store leaves much to be desired. The staff is no help at all usually, and their prices are pretty high. I'd recommend them only for goods that are sold at fixed prices everywhere such as Apple computers and iPods. Even their ethernet cable prices are too high compared to other independent computer stores. more

Not a pleasant shopping experience 7/29/2005

I've been here a few times and would not recommend it if shopping for electronics. As I walked in there were many people looking around and shopping, but not one sales associate to help me. Finally, as I was looking, someone helped but kept standing right behind me as if I were about to shoplift or something. For some reason it feels degrading to shop here. You have to leave any bags at the front with an associate before entering the store and have a feeling as if you were shopping for "hot merchandise". The customer service is horrible, the cashiers are anything but friendly, but have plenty of bad attitude to go around. Upon leaving, it took forever just to get my bag back. I do not recommend this store to anyone. more
